Honestly… buying crotchet from a store is most sensible. This is from someone who know how’s to crotchet, sew and knit.

Crocheted clothing just isn’t worth the effort or "fair price" IMO. If a machine can knit and make something similar enough faster and more affordably, I'd choose that instead any day.

Yep here in Calgary Canada I’ve seen in Zara and other retail stores in Malls selling crotcheting items and they don’t get charged enough sadly very well jobs same In urban planet and other stores I’m learning my self how to make clothing in Crotchet and other items it’s something so relaxing and amazing I love it

Just a reminder a lot of the people who make this crocheted stuff handmade live in other countries where the cost of living is extremely lower than in America. The price of the items in America does not equal what the price would be in their own countries. I’m not saying they’re definitely paid fairly but saying it’s cheap and that they must not be getting paid fairly based on how much it’s being sold overseas is not really accurate Most countries where fast fashion is made get paid literal dollars a day It goes a lot further than one person making all these items. It’s most likely a chain of people creating one part of each item

To be fair all fast fashion is done with nearly slave labour. We should not only consider things we have a personal connection to bc it our hobby

So what prices are you paying for wool. Really ,I can buy a ball of wool for £3 on a (3 for 2 deal ) I can get 6 balls for £12 ( 6 100 g ball should be plenty for a jumper, sweater

REMINDER TO NOT BUY CROCHET ITEMS IN RETAIL STORES!! They are made by hand by people who are not paid for the time and effort spent to make something. There are many things out there that are knit but look like crochet to most people, if you don’t know just don’t buy it!

Even with awful labor conditions, handmade crochet doesn’t seem very practical from a business standpoint. It’s so much more time consuming than cloth and it has to be hard to make consistently.

The first thing is not crocheted. It is knit. The earrings, probably are reasonably priced. I could make those in 30-60 minutes...so itd be well over minimum wage. The amount of yarn used would be so so little, I could probably get 15 pairs out of a $5 ball of red heart crochet cotton. So for materials and labor it seems quite reasonable.

Underconsumption has lost its plot. Crafting is underconsumption by nature, you just buy the material if you’re a fiber artist and some other types can use recycled materials like I’ve seen visual artists use junk mail as canvas and 3D art and some cosplayers can weave coke can tabs as Chain mail. Underconsumption was supposed to be a war on over-consuming plastic items like those little organization drawers that no one really uses, or $5000 fast fashion clothing hauls from shein and temu every week, or even just the entire marketing practice of crumbl cookie or just being aware when someone on TikTok was trying to market something to you. But instead underconsumption had turned into DO NOT BUY ANYTHING and resulting in people wearing clothes that are ruined and bragging about using the same exact makeup product for the past two years (and wondering why their skin is so bad🤢).
