Epson XP error - ink pad replacement and reset of the printer using a code / key.
My XP printer stopped working and the error on screen was the ink pad is at the end of service life contact Epson support. For £10 and about an hours work it's simple and very cost effective for any DIY enthusiast to do the same. See below and the end of the video to see where I ordered the new ink pads from and the access code needed to reset the printer.
Video covers XP-500, 520, 540, and XP-600 to XP-860 models (XP-510, 530 use same pads but different installation approach).

Flame won’t stay on or lit. Replacing a broken thermocouple on my gas hob.
Fabulous thanks so much now printing after years of not!!!
As Gary said below, an excellent video, easy to follow. It works exactly as the video for an XP-760, no hiccups, no cross words. Well done Tristram O.😃
Thank you for your video. Very helpful.
Thank you for helping me unbrick my XP-820! I would’ve made a mess of trying to get the ink pad out without your help. Many thanks!
EXCELLENT VIDEO!! Perfect step by step!! You're a life saver!! .....THANK YOU!!
Brilliant and clear guide, thanks!
Many thanks for this, was successful on my XP-830 (I replaced the entire tank) and a WIC Reset Key, all good to go
Just did this process on my ten-year-old Epson XP-810 and it worked beautifully, printing even better than it was before. Thank you!!
thanks, I literally just change the pads on my epson xp 610 by watching your video, thank you
Very good video on thermocouple replacement. Wondering if you have any video on why the burner is not igniting. only one burner is not igniting but others are fine
Try getting a head mount for your camera
I just bought new epson printer . Paying to replace ink pads, is it worth it?
Yes definitely. See comments above from people who have done it themselves.
@@tristramo3760 Thank you
Is this the same if it says the print "head" has reached the end of its service life?
Good question and not one I have seen. I hope another reader can answer that for you.
Hi apologies it says print head has come to end of service life? Same thing?
You're amazing!! Thank you so much!! ❤❤❤
Good job! How can i add thermo couple to a five burner cooker thay does n't have thermo couple from factory? Is it echomomical?
Technically your all breaking the Gas Safety Installation and Use Regulations if you've not proved competency to carry out this work
I've found the replacement Pads, but still need the 16 Digit Reset Code. Where abouts do I buy this in Australia. Thankyou
Thanks for a clear video, Our grill is playing up, have ordered a replacement thermocouple and now am confident to do the job safely thanks
Absolutely brilliant. So easy. All fixed. Octoinkjet are very good too. :)
Really helpful and easy to follow. Thank you!
That video would have been 8 minutes shorter without all the erms 😅😂
xp 620 here, a preset number of pages it can print. wow. I'm never buying epson again.
Hi Tristam, your video was easy to follow and I was successful at removing the "potty", but what other parts will time out that I'll have to replace soon? I just bought a new one, but if I'll get more life outta this one, I'll return it!
Tristram O, Thank you for an excellent video about replacing the ink pads on an Epson XP 800 printer, once their full. You would not believe how much time I've spent searching for this exact information. I am so grateful for your concise, easy to understand explanation about this process. Many Thanks. Garry👍
i just ran into this problem and found out there are no Epson reparaton centres in my country. I hope this helps.
Ppl , before removing the thermacouple try cleaning it with small grit sandpapper. Sometimes the buildbuid/gunk will keep it from working correctly.
Very informative. Have the same issue, same burner, fairly new hisense stove. Im diy too, but my first experience with gas stove. Will cintact the supplier tomorrow and how it goes. Its 3 months new. Thanks.
OMG! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
Brilliant easy to follow video on how to replace ink pads and reset the printer counter. Well done, you got my printer working again for minimal cost. Thank you.
Thank you!!! Your video saved me from buying a new printer. Your video was easy to follow and gave all the helpful hints I needed.
This was very useful to follow on my XP-900. Slightly different cover parts but essentially the same with similar screws. Thanks very much!
Thank you for this video - very clear, so i was able to freeze the playback while I dismantled and rebuilt the printer. My printer is an XP760 but the steps were the same. This is RUclips at its best.
Your very detailed instructions were extremely helpful for ink pad replacement and reset of my printer, an Epson XP-630. I followed your instructions step by step. With the soiled ink pad you have to be double careful and use plastic gloves and a plastic bag. In cleaning out the excess ink reservoir I also have a helpful suggestion. Spray Oxi Clean Laundry Stain Remover in the reservoir, swish it around and rinse with hot water. Even drying out the reservoir with a paper towel, the towel was completely clean. The messiest part of the procedure was the easiest. With your fantastic instructions, and my little helpful hint it makes a complicated procedure easier than I thought. Thanks again.
Thanks Tristram O, helped me today
Thank you for this video. it took me a while to find a video, i could understand and this one is it. WITH THE EXACT SAME PRINTER. So im going to follow you exact steps and see what happens.
With the guidance of your excellent video, I was able to remove the blackened waste ink pads (when I tried to wash them they dissolved!). I ordered new pads, easily installed them, watched your video step-by-step and successfully reassembled the printer (Epson XP-830). I ordered the code from OctoInkjet, received it immediately, watched their super video and viola!! I have a working printer again! Many, many thanks!
Thanks - still useful today
Tristram do you know how to get rid of message - ink cartridge not recognized by the printer - i bought 2 sets of new ink cartridges but its still not working- i tried everything people advise on YT but still doesn’t work. Please help
Hi. I am sorry that is not one I know. As you have done I would keep trying internet searches in the hope of finding a fix to that annoying message.
Fantastic, many thanks! Totally saved me from buying a new printer!! Amazing!
Glad I could help!
Nice video. One question. The small screw on the thermocouple, is it required to have? My one is not there.
Hi and thanks. My guess is, if there isn’t one on the original thermostat you are replacing then your model probably doesn’t need it.
Brilliant presentation.
Thank you kindly!
Can hardly hear ya mate
Do you know what the pads under the ink cartridges are called? I cannot find how to clean or replace this
All worked brilliantly. Thank you Tristan for your support
appreciate your time to make this video, it helped me six years after your posting; cheers ! very well explained.
Thank you, I haven't done this yet but it appears to be quite easy. Just need the pads now.
Thank you for this video, it gave me some ideas - one of my burners would only stay on if a pan was covering the problem hob. Read elsewhere that the thermocouple head must be in the flame for the burner to stay on (safety feature). Found that the burner ring and cover had a tiny bit of play and would move toward the thermocouple head by maybe 1mm, after doing this the hob stays on fine. Thanks again for the video - I know what to do if I need to change the thermocouple now.
Thank you so much for such a clear video. So easy when someone shows the way. Great job.
Ummm ummm yawn
how and where do I order the new waste printer potty pads?
I got mine from Octoink (UK based company)
