Starfield Ship Build: A Late-Game Smuggler that won't Break the Bank
This is a "cargo" ship I built in Starfield. I call it the "Regular Hauler" because I am just carrying legitimate cargo... Ok, so maybe it has 5 shielded cargo holds. So what? It features maximum crew capacity, and generous cargo space. It also includes a nice interior with one of each type of workbench. It even has a nice bridge that has stairs, so you won't need to climb ladders (although there is a ladder in the interior, it only leads to the upper crew living space, and you won't usually need to go up there).
You can build it from a Va’ruun Prophecy III for less than 70k if you keep the weapons that come with the Prophecy III and don't add any more (It will be less than 55k if you have...

Auto Particle Beams may be the best weapon type in Starfield, because they do good damage to both hull and shields and don't require a lock like missiles do.     While these tests are interesting and they do illustrate the differences between the class A and class B options of Auto Particle Beams, your test doesn’t take into consideration one very important factor: power allocation. The difference in recharge rate can be made to be nearly identical with available power distributed between the three weapon groups. What this means is that the weapon with the highest DPS will be the best, because you can make them all recharge to 100 from full depletion in the same amount of time. DPS is a function of damage per shot and fire rate, so when the recharge rates are leveled, rate of fire is irrelevant as that has already been factored into the DPS equation. Each of my ship builds prior to the Aegis had these weapons equipped originally. In the combat showcases for Scythe, Helion, and the original Basilisk, you can see how my power is unevenly distributed between the three weapon groups, and how they all recharge to full at nearly the same time. And even in my guides for Peregrine, Aetos, Aetos II, and Citadel despite them all using lower-level Auto PB’s, I still use the same uneven power distribution to achieve that same result.

    There is also a SAL 6330. I did not hear you mention it. These SAL's are available at Stroud Staryard on the Narion system, depending on skill levels and whether a player has unlocked the SAL 6830's. The 6330's are great too, but because the maneuvering thrust is lower the mass of the ship might have to be lower to still have the prized 100 mobility. I don't worry about the cost because earning 10 million creds a week by taking over ships in space and selling them is fairly easy.

    Higher top speed is really not as beneficial as the higher engine health in the class C engines....especially the SAL 6330's or the SAL 6830's if you are lucky enough to get them unlocked. I use the SAL 6830's J-52 Gamma Grav Drive Xing Pinch 8Z Reactor 4 x PBO-175 Helion Beam 2 x Atlati 280C missile launchers. 2 x Nullifier 1750 Suppressors. The 4 Helion Beam weapons are so powerful most ships are gone 4 shots. For boarding ships I hit their engines once or twice with the Helion Beamers and then use the nullifiers to get that beautiful boarding X....LOL. The missiles are just plain annihilation on roids even against the bigger ships like the Claymore's Prophecies, and the Whites. My ship weapon skills are maxed out so that all helps too. I tried building a fast ship....and it was fast with all my ship engine skill points. I used the 180's on it. If I recall correctly my top speed under boost was 1500. That's 3 times faster than my ship with the SAL's when boosting. But I found that speed is not the answer in a space battle.....the massive engine health of the SAL's really helps in a space battle.

    Nice work, and my favorite Bridge too. I use the C4 to get the most cargo space. Now build that with the SAL 6880's...LOL...and if you don't have that perk, use the SAL 6330's.

    So there is a very close engine that doesn't require All that money can buy diplomatically. It's a little heavier, with less maneuverability.

      Did you use the same exact habs as I did? Different interior and exterior styles can change where ladders appear. I built this twice on PC and I never got any extra ladders (built once to design it and once more to make the video). I can't say for sure if there are any differences on console vs. PC.

    A typical storeroom has a mass of 5, while these Hope cross brace and cross spines have a mass of 14. Meanwhile the Novz Cross Passage has amass of 4. Why?! Bugthesda figures a Hope passage weighs more than a storeage room while takes up the same 1x1 space? All the pieces have to be air tight. All 3 pieces provide 5 Hull, while the Nova cross doesn't give armor at all. So you aren't getting more armor, only more weight for less usage. Bugthesda. Willy-nilly stat assignments.. Ugh...

      Yeah I always thought that was bizarre. It's almost like they changed all of the stats at the last minute and didn't notice the passageways. I made a mod that gave each structural piece an amount of hull strength equal to its mass, and when I did that I noticed that the internal record for the nova cross passage used the same naming convention as the structural pieces, which all have 0 hull (along with the nova passage). So they probably zeroed those all out at the same time. The hope tech passages didn't use that naming convention which might explain how the developers let the passageways have so many discrepancies... I wouldn't be surprised if the pieces with a mass of 5 originally had a mass of 15 or 20 and when they lightened everything up they just missed the hope tech passages. There's no good reason for them to have more mass than a hab.

    Have you compared the low fire particles? I like to pair one low fire and one auto for burst + longevity

      I should do that when I get the chance... It seems like they would have lower DPS based on the stats, but maybe the UI is inaccurate for those weapons too... I can kind of appreciate mapping a slower fire rate particle beam to the 3rd weapon group and then having faster weapons in the other groups... Especially with the way the controls are by default when using a game controller. There is seemingly some merit to going for single shot damage over dps if you are blasting ships as they zoom past you in a dogfight, as opposed to just getting behind them and blasting away until they are destroyed.

    WOW THIS WORKED!! Thank you so much for explaining this process! I sure hope Bethesda doesn't patch this one. There's no reason why my ship shouldnt be able to land there just because it's slightly over 40m total length. Theres plenty of room to spare on the small landing pad for my ship. My outpost is VERY well developed and painstakingly made over many hours and it is nestled in the mountains. It's not possible to fit a large landing pad near my base. I HAVE to use the small one so you've saved me! Thank you so much for making this!

      I haven't used the EM weapons enough to give them a proper review... I've been using the Obliterator 250MeV Auto Alpha Beam when I want to board ships... it's a powerful auto particle weapon but it fires a single shot at a time, rather than firing in a burst of 3, which makes it easier to use for disabling engines in targeting mode without accidentally destroying the entire ship... EM weapons certainly have their place if you really really don't want to risk blowing up the target.

      Haha... My laptop's built in mic isn't great but I think that plugging in headphones was somehow causing interference. I was trying to prevent echoes but I guess that backfired.

      There is a mod that does something similar for Starfield - I think it's called increased build tolerance or something... But there are a lot of people that don't want to or can't use mods.

      It depends... If you are interested in a game that mixes typical FPS mechanics with some space combat that is designed to be fun rather than realistic, you might enjoy it. I like the shipbuilder, which is one of the main things that it has going for it when compared to Fallout 4. If you really like detailed side quests, then you might be disappointed because Fallout 4 and TESV Skyrim both win in this regard. There aren't as many cool side quests in this game compared to some of the other Bethesda games. The game has a lot of loading screens so it's a bit annoying even with a fast SSD... I definitely wouldn't want to play it on a slow drive.

    They will patch this soon. Won't patch eye of the storm bug cause this is way more important. Like putting rocks on cracks to block chest. Why bother? If someone wants to use that let them and try fixing things that completely lock up your game first.

      I'm not sure that they will actually try and patch the ship builder. There are so many different glitches for placing things where they don't fit, that patching one would only bring attention to the ones that haven't been patched. The easy fix would be to give an error when things are colliding and prevent you from saving, but I have discovered several of these glitches by accident and I know that others have too... So this would likely be a frustrating experience. They probably shouldn't attempt a fix unless they can fix it 100% of the way, because it would just draw attention to an issue that isn't actually bothering anyone...

      It won't get patched, there are in fact quite a few pre-built ship designs in game that you need to use glitches like this to recreate.

      Awesome. It will probably be quite a bit more expensive than building it from the Prophecy III, but spacers will have a good reason to fear you, lol. If I was building it from a different ship and I didn't already have the class c reactor that makes 37 power, I would probably go with the Pinch-8Z reactor or the SF-40 sheared flow reactor so I could take advantage of the 3 additional power.

      Yes indeed there is. I know that you can use a wing that can be flipped or cycled to the next variant... just change the version and then cancel and you can place a part that is in red, meaning you can put it right on top of your weapons. I have a video on that trick, too.

      @allensproject I'll have to look, cause I did it by duplicating a piece with a weapon mounted, and it would immediately place the new part above the old one with the weapon from the first part inside the new one.

      I think Bethesda made a bad move to market Starfield as Skyrim in space... The best feature of this game is the shipbuilder and that's not like anything in Skyrim. Skyrim has a million interesting side quests in every corner of the map, which you will inevitably stumble upon, and that's something that Starfield lacks. Of course people that wanted a game like space Skyrim will be disappointed. It appeals to a totally different audience. They have lots of money, though, so hopefully elder scrolls 6 is good. They can probably get away with loading screens and their old engine as long as it is a huge game with lots of details in every corner and it supports mods.

      I want to make a mod that quadruples all cargo and warehouses... Cargo is easy to change, but there are some technical difficulties doing that to warehouses since they use reflection (a programming technique)...

    It needs to be furthest point out or it will clip on docking. I think he glitched out both

      Believe it or not, the docker extends far enough without any glitches. It doesn't matter if the docker reaches far enough when retracted, it matters if it reaches far enough when fully extended. There is a glowing ring that appears in the shipbuilder that appears when hovering over the docker that shows how far it can reach. This one just barely extends past the upper and lower structural parts.

    FYI the best ship design is a flying L the enemy AI shoots for center of mass with an L there's nothing there

      Yes it's true that ai shoots for the center of the ship based on the bounding box and if there's nothing there, they often miss. Locked missiles will often miss starborn ships in targeting mode for a similar reason. Space combat is too easy though, even on the hardest setting, so I'm not a fan of that trick myself.
