Exploring the Ontario backcountry with our enthusiastic Golden Retriever named Emma. We love canoeing, backcountry camping, hiking, portaging, cooking on the fire and swimming.. lots of swimming.
Algonquin Canoe Camping in August, 3 Days, Rock Lake, Rence, Louisa
August 26,27,28 2023 In Algonquin Park.
Access was Rock Lake, we traveled in some light rain and wind through to Rence Lake for night 1. Along the way we bump into some friends! We cooked steak on the fire and enjoyed a great evening.
The next day we paddled to Lake Louisa and set up at a beautiful camp site. Jen does a bear hang, James rebuilt a fire pit, we swam and enjoyed a perfect day at camp. The next morning James catches a trout, and cooks it over the fire for breakfast - the perfect camp meal. We paddle and portage back towards Rock Lake.

Fall 2023; mid September, as the leaves were just starting to change, over a year in the making, we were finally able to take James' mom and partner out on their first backcountry canoe camping trip. James helped Rosanna and Steve plan all the gear that they needed to outfit themselves, they collected gear all summer long in preparation. Unfortunately two weeks before the initially planned fall...

Our first night was spent on Little Trout Creek with temperatures dipping down below freezing. On the second day we paddle our way towards Shippagew Lake, little did we know we wouldn't get there without inc...

A 5 day fall canoe camping trip in Temagami, Ontario. We start with a road trip north, and an overnight stay closer to our destination. Never having been to the area we expected rough road ahead, and that’s what we found. We discovered our car wouldn't make it all the way, so we portaged to the access lake - Lake Temagami. After battling strong winds and white cap waves we arrive at a site on D...

Mid July 3 day canoe camping trip in Algonquin Park We had a beautiful first day paddling to the lake where we would spend night 1, only to find a big group of people stationed at 'our campsite'. On a lake with only one bookable site, a place we had stayed before, we knew this was not a good sign. We tried to get their attention as we paddled along the shore. They awkwardly ignored us.. It was ...

Great slip along the waters. Happy trails 😎✌
Firepit rehab was perfection. You guys always set the bar for camp etiquette 👏
Is everything ok?
Oct 17 2024- what is the make of your large dry bags you wear on your backs, one is orange and one is lime. Thanks, Rich in Waterloo
15:29. Yes. Yes, we should. Also, How did you rig that tarp up? Pretty amazing.
Buy two ropes and some pulleys will help greatly on hanging food. Great video!
Just did smoke lake to rock lake what a test that was amazingly awesome!!!!
Found your videos while looking for examples of taking big dogs on canoe trips. Your pup is so well behaved. I've got a big (80lbs) male golden. He'd absolutely love it but I have no idea how he'd do on portages, at campsites, sitting in the boat, etc. Currently in the daydreaming phase, looking to train him on local ponds & lakes before trying anything serious.
Long time no see, great you've posted another video, enjoyed! Regarding fire pits, on an official state-run website for hikers in Sweden surprisingly I've found this: "Fires must not be lit on, or next to, a rock - the heat will cause the rock to crack." Interesting, isn't it?
how many pair of shoes did you guys bring for this trip?
2: camp shoes and travel shoes. Our camp shoes are crocs. Our travel shoes are water friendly hiking shoes (lots of drainage.)
Could you put up a list of all your equipment for your trips and where to purchase it, love the video's, lm 60 miles from my house to the landing on opeongo lake or 4o minutes to witney.lve worked all over in the park, alot of work from the swishsaw on the tower lines that run through the park and cross the highway east of witney. I used to fish hogan, laviea, and Dixon and Billy, and numerous other lakes in the park. One day you get time check out the Brent Crater where yous were at Brent, BTW Emma is a gorgeous pup 🐶
Lovely! You’re situated in a great spot! We’ve had many requests for gear information so I do believe it’s about time we get around to that. We will do this soon. Yes we were meaning to check out the crater and also didn’t get around to that, we will have to next time. I will pass on the compliments to Emma, in the form of a treat and some pats, she will be happy 🤗 thank you Perry.
I’ve gone through all your videos from most recent to the past. It is hilarious to see how much swimming Emma would do back then 😂 what a little bugger, she has made great improvements since then!
🫣 huge improvements haha. Our tripping start with her was rough 😂 Just goes to show you can’t give up! If you work hard at something, there will be improvements!
Great video guys! Trying to get our Boy Scout troop to do a trip up there. Oh well , all I can do is suggest it. Johnny Hiker
Great place for Boy Scouts for sure! Thank you so much 🤗
Hi! Love your videos so much ☺was wondering what brand the red swimsuit you were wearing is?
Thank you so much! So nice to hear 🤗♥️ The swimsuit is Frankie’s Bikinis X Pamela Anderson.
Great Job on the video and Wow what a transformation to the fire pit. Nice.
Thanks so much! 🤗
Absolutely amazing. Both have a great stemna. Guys I recommended you visit the himalayan mountains k2 and Nangaparbat view point from one place moses peak Gilgit-Baltistan Barah Valley. Add this sound in your bucket list.
😱 we’ve been in the Sierras but these suggestions sound maybe out of our capabilities 🤗 they look stunning though! My goodness would be a dream! I’m adding them to the bucket list, we will figure it out! 🫣😉
@@TwoPacksandaPup OMG thanks for your reply me and Himalayan sounds always welcome you guys
Spent the first half hour on a site on Teepee cleaning out the fire pit and surrounding area. Super frustrating. I couldn't do anything else until it was clean though. I know anyone watching this video wouldn't do anything like that. Just expressing my frustration. Worst part is it was the first day of a 4 day trip so I had to carry their crap the whole trip and all the way home. After the tidying was done, it was as beautiful a trip as always.... 🙂
Awe 😕 always a bummer, but we too can’t settle unless it’s clean. I think some folks researching camping could come across these videos and take a few things away. Let’s hope!
Great 3 days paddle with the pup, love the cliff lined lakes, pine lined campsites, and swim holes, keep rocking it!
Thank you! 😊😊 was a beautiful trip. It’s amazing how much beauty can be seen and fun had in just 3 days!
I was wondering if you two and Emma were still doing backcountry. Nice video 👍🏼 just got back today, 5 days on north Opeongo.
Very nice! 5 days on Opeongo is lovely ✨have to watch some camp videos when we get home to ..keep the good feels going.
i was pumped hearing that intro song! good job rebuilding the fire pit James. good vid, thanks for sharing
Nice! Haha that song feels like driving up to go camping for us now too. Was quite a good rebuild hey? Thanks for coming along and chatting
Fantastic as always. Will have questions after we watch it a couple more times. Cheers
Thank you! 🥰 glad you enjoyed coming along!
You have a lot of money if you can afford to bring your pets with you.
@@VladislavBabbitt no, it does not cost any extra to bring our dog. We just drive a few hours north from home.
really glad to have you back, you have been missed ❤😹
@@susansmeeton4321 awe that’s nice to hear 🥰 we miss the comments when we don’t have a new video also
Just inspiring, we love watching your videos together. Thank you for sharing, been preparing our canoe trip(s) and these videos, over the years, have offered inspiration..
We’re so happy to hear that the videos have been helpful!! 😀 thank you for sharing this with us. Happy tripping!
Great video, I stayed at that spot about 10 years ago! Love your dog. James seems a little... uh.... well, not very full of joy. Hope everything is okay with him.
Thanks Simon! James is ok, he was feeling a bit down by the state of the campsites on this trip.
We love your backpacks, they look so comfortable! What brand is it and where did you get it from?
@@albertfong9762 love them! They are the MEC Slogg 70 L
What a great way to start the week! Hope to see more videos of you guys.
Thank you so much! More coming! 😊
I really appreciate you two taking time out of your trip to talk about how to camp in the backcountry and keep these wonderful spaces clean for generations to come.
Thank you for the lovely comment 🙏❤️ Hoping he to help spread the word and keep these places clean.
@@TwoPacksandaPup it's important and great to see more responsible campers packing out others' trash, I wish there wasn't trash but if we all have to do our part wee can keep our backcountry clean. Thank you so much.
Missed you guys....so glad you all are back with new adventure...!
Thanks Jim! More coming
@@TwoPacksandaPup Can't wait!
It is nice to see you guys out there!!! Great video!!!
Thank you Kristin! 🥰
Welcome back Great video keep it up.
Thank you!!😀
Thanks for being good stewards of the land. You guys are shining examples of how to recreate responsibly. Now where’s that video of your California trip? 😊
Haha yes that video is long overdue!! It IS going to come out. Thanks for the high praise 🙏 we just hope to educate even one person per video who end up camping and not being messy 🫣
Nice to see a video from you guys . You're setting the standard with the baywatch swimsuit ( and the nails ).Its a great loop but i'd like to recommend a slight detour
Thanks Alex, ☺️ I’m blushing. What detour would you recommend? Were creatures of habit and like to ho back to the same places, so before we do, I’d like to know your suggestion 👀
@@TwoPacksandaPup Sent you an email about the detour
Great video. Definitely know how frustrating it is to see others leave garbage around the sites and trails. Nice to see another upload from the 3 of you. Hope to see more coming soon! 🍻 Take care
Thank you! Yes more soon ☺️
Best Monday morning in quite a while. I’m glad you’re back with a new video. Your videos are always so refreshing
Thanks Alan! Love making a Monday morning better 😃✨thanks for coming on the adventure!
Was just thinking that I hadn't seen a new paddling video from any of the folks I love to watch for a very long time and five minutes later up pops this. Thanks for taking us along.
Good timing!! 😄 thanks for coming along! ❤️
Our province with that little slice of heaven is awesome
It’s perfection 🥰
Nice adventure, but you must be young have enough power to do it, and also you need to have a free time for such adventure...in any way it is enjoyable to watch...
@@nikolamilicic9638 let us do the heavy lifting, and you can still enjoy the adventure 😃
Yay another Algonquin video ☺️ so excited to watch
This makes us happy 🥰 hope you enjoyed the trip with us!
Always enjoy spending some time with Emma!😁🐕 I’ve never been to Rock Lake. Someday… (we did a Kiosk loop last year.)
We’re happy to share her with everyone so she can spread smiles 😄 she seems to be good at that. Kiosk loop is lovely!
Nice to see a new video 👍 Beauty trout for breakfast. Good to see you guys demonstrating safe fire advice, there really are too many people not using the proper fire pit and especially not putting fires out. Just too much slovenly behaviour in general. I was up backpacking last week end and at my second campsite someone had left a ton of junk. A four person tent, a bunch of cheap gear and dollar store kids toys, and a stack of empty tin cans. Also a trail of used wet wipes leading to the thunder box 🤮 LOL, at Emma keeping an eye on that loon cruising by the campsite 😂
Oh no ☹️ very frustrating. Sorry you came across that. Really puts a damper on the good time. Some of these incidents I’m sure are from visitors who don’t care, but I’m convinced a lot of the undesired behaviour out in the parks comes from many folks simply not knowing. We figure if anyone who doesn’t know is watching, maybe we can help a little.
Great show tks so much for sharing 😊
Thanks for coming along!!
You may end up having to buy Emma a fishing license. Just to be safe.
😂😂 thank you for the belly laugh. She may end up out fishing us all
Have you managed to get out this year?
We’ve been out a couple of times, missed our spring trip but still got out in June and July! Have a backlog of editing
Thanks so much for the new vid! Perfect end to my day.
Happy to provide some Sunday evening entertainment! 😄
That is very nice place
So perfect ✨💕
I love Rock Lake!
It’s soo beautiful ❤️❤️❤️
Awesome video! Also great dog hat! I want to get one now 😀. I don’t know if anyone mentioned this but looks like Emma may have allergies - I recognize that foot and leg licking. My dog has both environmental and food allergies. The symptoms are different for each. When she had food she was allergic to, she would do the paw licking. I had to do an elimination diet. The problem was protein. She is allergic to chicken and beef so I have her on bison, venison and kangaroo and she’s doing great. This may or may not be the case with your dog but I wanted to raise it just in case. Keep making the great videos!
Awe thank you, yes totally get it. Goldens especially have a lot of allergies and sensitivities. We’ve figured out that she only does this when she is wet. No other time.. we see that she is always putting in an effort to dry herself when she’s wet, even though she does not think twice about getting wet haha. So far her Dr does not think she has any allergies. We will keep an eye on it though.
Hey there you three!!! I saw you posted on IG but I’m trying to ween myself off of everything but RUclips when it comes to social. Maybe I should do it the other way around but who knows😂. Just wondering if you guys are going to be putting stuff up on the tube anymore?🥲. Miss you guys and hoping you’re having a good summer!! NQU
Smart to get off social media! Good for you. We will keep posting videos here. Just posted one last night. Hope to catch up on editing as I’ve got a few trips filmed that need to come out still. Thanks for stopping in to say hello!
just stumbled across your video and your channel. I watch a few folks who go canoe trip camping and it makes me want to get out there and do it.. maybe one day! what a great video -- loved it!
