Well I love the old and the new ! It's certainly not a quasqai, it's got the AWD system that other car makers can only dream of (and reliability). It's also no Impreza. It's an amazing car that safely transports me and my family through all conditions. Like motoring journalists you're being unfair and comparing the Forester against what it is not ! I also love the Impreza, that thing is in a class of its own.

Why has it got a Subaru badge on it? It's not a good looking car at all, zero character, just another crossover thing. I used to have a Toyota C-HR hybrid which was actually a very good car with some unique style about it. In fact, I kept that car for three and a half years, it was so good. I think these days, everything looks the same... awful.

(Behind closed doors lest they be overheard) A Lexus, particularly one of the GS or LS variety, is arguably one of the finest automobiles on the planet. Did you change to a 3 bar MAP? That and encoding for a "negative" reading in the MAP signal for ECU calculations. Meaning, redefining the parameters for the MAP.

That MX5 is sounding really nice. Where I'm from in the West Country, the snow gets really deep. It's not unusual for all the roads and in and out of Cornwall to be closed to everything except tractors and 4x4 vehicles. (and I don't mean cars). I used to earn a fortune pulling idiots out of the snow with my old Vauxhall Monterey. Great fun!

The air cleaner needs fastening down with its filter in. One pipe is balanced (like an old version of a massive airflow sensor but without the electronics) the other goes to the breather on the rocker casing. I think these older cars were pressure/vacuum sensitive. I know that early Toyotas were, not 100% certain about Datsuns
