Succulent plant tour under new grow light :)
Do you have a list of what sucuclents and are they hardy in zones 4 and 5? Sorry for all the questions in advance
What is your garden zone?
Hello! I am in zone 6b
I absolutely love this rock garden you made! The chocolate sempervivums looks gorgeous! All the sedums looks beautiful with its various colours. Thank you my friend 👍
Just found this... Beautiful! I'm in New Jersey and we just had a pretty mellow winter but lots of rain. Last summer I lost a lot of plants because of the humidity and I got mealies and white fungus on a lot of my plants. I was starting to think I can't do it but maybe I just need to make sure they are in sunnier and more well drained areas.
Thank you! Yes rain is horrible for succulents. My best advice is to build raised rockeries and fill them with cactus soil and pearlite, but they will still underperform in rainy times
My sedum Himalayan sky (the greenish silver one you couldnt remember the name) grows like crazy, doubled in thickness and height in a month. I bought a sedum Clavatum on a whim and it might be the most beautiful thing ive seen.
I am so glad that the Himalayan sky is working out for you! Mine died that winter in zone 6B - due to too much wetness I believe. Sedum Clavatum is a pretty plant - I currently do not have one. Cheers and thanks for watching my old videos - I need make some new ones!
I’m I love with this omg
Blue Fescue becomes a spreading invasive mess.
What type of grow light do you use I have 1 but not sure if the watts are strong enough for my succulents I have White and red bolbs
Hello Savannah - I currently use the following grow lights - after much trial and error, they work best for me: www.gardeners.com/buy/grow-lights-and-stands/bamboo-led-grow-lights/
Thanks so much
Are you still collecting succulents? I really enjoyed your videos. I hope all is well.
Hello! Would love to see updates on your succulents 🤍
Amazing rock garden. I love it. You have inspired me to see what I can do with my sempervivum and sedum. Thank you
@Susan Gates thank you! I actually just re-did it. I haven't made a video in a few years tho. Good luck!
What zone are you in... and is it moist there?
Hi I'm in zone 6B with intense humidity. These particular succulents are very cold hardy though. The sempervivums are planted on a somewhat raised surface in a mixture of cactus soil and pearlite, which helps with drainage. The sedums are more resilient and I just grown them in regular soil on flat surfaces. However, cold hardy agaves would not be able to survive here due to moisture/snow
@@izabelaszydlowska3940 thank you for the reply. I live in zone 5b and can easily grow sedum and sempervivum; though I am testing out opuntia humifusa cactus in my rock garden. In iowa it is quite moist so I wonder if I can grow a full patch from a cutting I bought online... I currently also have a few yucca filamentosa (bright edge) this plant has beautiful verigation. I know someone in Western Iowa grows mountain ball cacti as well. Something I might consider trying.
@@chrono5128 I grow yucca as well (I don't think I did at the time of this video). It is a tough one and doesn't need special treatment. Yucca is monocarpic too, so once it flowers it's done, but it generally sets off pups. As far as cactus, here is the northeast we have a wild opuntia compressa - I have one - it goes dormant in the winter (all flat and wrinkled) and it is very forgiving and flowers nicely, The spines on it are awful though - so tiny and when you get them on you only duct tape can get them out! Good luck!
Nice rock garden! Beautiful arrangement and colors. Thanks for all the tips.
What usda zone is this garden in ?

Is it ok to use grow light during summer time
Maria yes in the house I use it all year round. But I have central air so the temperature in the house is very consistent. 69 F in the winter and 74 F in the summer
Like #52 Hello Iza ! New subscriber here and new friend Like you I love 💕 love 💕 succulents You have such beautiful and gorgeous collections... I love watching garden 🪴 tour Thank you 🙏 so much and I will stay connected ♥️ JONAH
Jonah thank you for the compliments - I am really glad you enjoy the content :) Looks like you have quite a few videos on your channel - I will have to take a peek :)
Do you have problems with rabbits with your sedum or plants? I have wild rabbits around my area. Let me knoly stay awy from sedum and succulents? Hope to hear your experience.
Hi! There are rabbits and chipmunks in my garden but so far they have left the rockery intact. I wonder if it has something to do with the opuntia. It is brutal - it has invisible spines that will embed in the sking when you barely brush by it. I wonder if it turned away several small critters... Now the rest of my garden gets pruned by rabbits throughout the year :(
What is your instagram?
Hi Patrycja - my instagram is: szydlowskaiza Hope to see you on there :)
Hi. I'm new here. Your plants look very healthy. We've had snow here in North Texas also. I joined your channel just now.
Hello, welcome! My goodness, what happened with the snow and ice in Texas this year is a horrible horrible tragedy. My heart goes out to everyone there. I took a peek at your channel - looks like you grow veggies? I'm thinking you could definitely try some xeriscaping outside in Texas, but there is always that awful risk of losing your collection if you plant it in the ground. These days with global warming it's hard to tell what kind of crazy weather we might encounter...
Que lindo!
Muchas Gracias :)
Wow!! That's amazing you got one for the wild.
Hello Lynn, yes it is. I felt guilty taking it, even though it was a fallen branch. I would never have taken from a living plant. Well, I love it and it brings back such happy memories :) Jades in California are like the most common landscaping shrub I noticed and grow everywhere. Perfect place over there to grow succulents outside!
That's a nice selection of succulents you have there. I love the blue and white pot and saucer. I see Santa brought you a tripod, it will make things so much easier!
Hi Una :) As you can see, I am indeed catching up! The blue and white pot are a gift from one of my best friends. Still haven't used the tripod by the way - I'm just being awful... I shall persevere eventually!
Hi Iza we have snow here too, seems everyone does at the moment! Lovely video, great to see you back again 😊 such pretty plants, that is such a great spot for them. Yay for the new tripod 🎉
Janette, hi! You can see that I am much in arrears on all things youtube. I am jealous that your winters are so much more mild than mine over here. But, we have to work with what we've got. I've been binge-watching and catching up on Una's videos - you're next lady :)
@@izabelaszydlowska3940 hi Iza, I have a stack of yt videos to watch too, I’m subscribed to over 100 gardening channels! I really want to support all my gardening friends but there’s not enough hours in the day ... would be helpful if I didn’t have to go to work 🤣🤣 so no worries, I completely understand 😊 Happy Easter 🐣
Beautiful succulents as is your home. Where in CT do you live? I'm in Newington. Maybe be can do a swap someday 🌵🌿🪴🌱
Hi Elizabeth! Thank you so much! I'm in Cromwell so super close :) You can look me up on instagram: szydlowskaiza
Sweet selection, My Friend. They make the view from the kitchen window very special. One of the kids in m daycare class, gave me a little Jade plant in the sweetest little zebra planter.
Derron my friend! You can see that my RUclips diligence is atrocious - it's been a month since you wrote this comment! And I'm overdue for another video haha. I also have three of your videos to catch up on - in fact, I'll go watch them right now - fun!! Hope you're doing well...
Beautifull. Plant
Fun Garden, thank you so much :)
Morning, Iza. Nice to have you back. What a great selection. I love that snake plant.😊😊
Hello Derron!! I haven't been good with putting out regular content.... Thank snake plant is so prolific - if you didn't live across the border I'd ship you a baby...
@@izabelaszydlowska3940 You’re so sweet. When I buy get one, I will post it.😊😊
Hi there Iza great to see you back again 👋 missed you!! I really like your colourful Christmas tree 😍
Janette hi! I am horrible at putting out regular content. I want to start making 'action' videos - about repotting, soil mixing, propagating etc. I have a tripod now so i just need to take that plunge. Glad you like the tree :)
@@izabelaszydlowska3940 ooh I like the sound of ‘action’ videos Iza 🤣🤣 It does take twice as long to get something done when you’re filming a gardening job doesn’t it? But now you have a tripod there’s no stopping you. My tripod is useless, it’s so lightweight it’s always falling over!! I need to upgrade. Well, I’m glad you’re back in the game 🥰
Hi Iza! I was just thinking about you! Here we both are freezing in Connecticut LOL That first sansaveria that you showed us is absolutely gorgeous! I'm actually just now starting to really like all the different types of sansevieria there are and I really like that one that you have. All of your plants look so beautiful. How is your outside garden holding up? I remember you redid the rock garden outside with a lot of semps. It was nice seeing a video from you again. I hope your new year is going well and I'm looking forward to another video from you
Janet hi!!!!!!! Yes it is freezing for sure. Outdoor rock garden is sleeping under a layer of snow. For my previous experience, it will wake up in the spring and do just fine. Sansevierias can be boring, but there are some interesting cultivars out there. Look up the walking sansevieria - that's a fun one. Also, whale fin! I good the samurai dwarf at Woodland Gardens in Manchester - they have some interesting choices. Sorry took me so long to reply - I am horrible at putting out videos on a regular schedule etc. etc. I'll work on it. I also want to start making some instructional videos. I have a tripod now :) PS. I'm on facebook: Iza Szydlowska. If you like, please send me a friend request and maybe we can chat at some point, since we're local. Of course, the pandemic makes any in person stuff impossible, seeing as it's freezing outside :(
