loving this series cant wait for the next episode.
Just Love the Container. The Loading mechnaics are awesome and the truck has an awesome Military/industrial look, i liked the Black paint on it to visually seperate the two.
Well I went and ruined it at the end with my paint job 🙃
For multigrid builds like your truck, using conveyer rotors/hinges to connect the grids gets rid of the camera issue given that you can separate the rotor/hinge into two parts and reconnect/connect them as you like. The game reads sub-grids via rotors/hinges/piston as one grid along with the main grid, the grids through connectors will always read as a separate grid which makes the camera funky.
A rotor head sounds like a good option. I could leave the torque low to allow the container to auto level with the bed. 👍
To everyone suggesting merge blocks: Pistons and batteries that close to sub-gridded merge blocks is a disaster waiting to happen. It also doesn't help that he has batts in the truck and in the crate right above the pistons where the merge block would go. I personally think the mag plate dropping the crate onto the struts and then reattaching is a much better (safer) idea. I dislike that the crate drags along the ground, and I'd have base hinge lift the whole thing up slightly off the ground so as not to damage the crate, but it's your truck and you can do what you want.
Crate dragging is pretty standard in the real world, but they do make skids with rear wheels/rollers to help them slide. SE doesn't have a real analog for that small though.
How you do small and large grid bases?
If you watch the last episode it shows the setup, but basically hinges and rotors with small grid heads.
Great episode!! I feel like we’re not even playing the same game! The things you build are always so creative and cool. The control room wall blew my mind and your truck being able to pickup up those containers is amazing. One idea might be to use merge blocks so you don’t have to deal with the third person camera jank, but that would require some creative reworking of blocks so it can still be disconnected which may or may not be worth it since your design is already so great. Either way greatly looking forward to seeing more and continuing to learn from you. Thank you for the video
Thanks! I am really enjoying your series! I started out thinking of doing something similar of ensuring there are crew quarters to support the facilities, but then the factory complex has taken a life of its own. I need to try the merge block. I think you are the 3rd person to suggest them, but for other reasons. Didn't think of the 3rd person view advantage. The pros are piling up.
I thought about merge blocks too however it will do things with the grid naming system. When you have multiple cargo containers and named blocks which are important to the function of the system, I think merge blocks would end up sabotaging you in the end.
This is really good! For the truck, the batteries look great, a different route would be an engine on one side and you could access one of the cabins from the door on the back, and have a refueling port, but as of yet there isn't a real ladder (that fits most of the time) or easy way of getting onto small grids without a jetpack so, not really worth changing that, all good. And you could fit an engine in the frame as an alternative, which you may have done and I missed it. Idk if it needs one either
I was playing with the engine, didn't make the cut, but couldn't get it to fit a way I thought looked nice. I kinda want to do a 10x10 wheel base instead of 8x8 to get a little more room to add those things. We'll see. Access to the back door would be nice.
Keep posting this content
Aiming for every Sunday!
Just discovered engineering coffee, great space engineer content❤❤❤
Welcome!
theres a new nice block to cover conveyor ends... conveyor caps
I will probably add them, just want to get the stacking and storage of them done to see if it creates any interference.
For my inventory sorting systems to avoid the cycling issue with sorter blocks, I often connect all my storage with one conveyer line to each cargo container group and on that line have a split that runs parallel for a few blocks then remerges with the main conveyer line then in the parallel split section, have a connector valve on one line and the sorter on the other. That way when I activate the sorters, I have it set to simultaneously disconnect the connector valve and vis versa. Love your analog status and control system, I usually do something similar but I've never gone in to so much detail. Very cool. Love the truck! Another fun project I like to do in the same vein is making something similar to those tractor vehicles that taxi aircraft at airports for moving large ships around a landing zone and into and out of hangars.
That is a great idea with the valving. I have a feeling I will have a subterranean plumbing rework once I get the storage warehouse built. Thank you for the suggestion!
Two ideas for the truck: merge blocks could be better than the mag plate. Half scaffold blocks make better steps than the barred windows. Love the series so far.
Glad you're enjoying it! I always forget about the scaffolding, I will give it a look! Someone else suggested the merge block, I am wary of Clang, but will look into it.
This episode was amazing as always. That truck looks great. And the control room looks awesome too. Reminds me of the days working on a warship and the control room had blinking lights for all the different valves etc. The comment about being a scada engineer and setting up the programmable logic controllers. Now I see where you get all your inspiration. I swear all the best builders in this game are engineers in real life lol. Looking forward to the next episode.
Thank you! Well 'engineer' in the title is what sucked me in to this game a decade ago for sure. Yeah the analog setup is definitely outdated to what I program IRL. SE just lends itself well to that older mechanical style like Battlestar.
@@EngineeredCoffee I agree. Either way its great to watch.
0:22 I think it looks good.
Just found your channel and absolutely loved this episode! Will definitely be catching up on the previous episodes in the series over the next few days. I like the theme that you have. It's great to hear your thinking process throughout the builds too 👌 That 8x8 is awesome, both in aesthetics and how it functions. I would add extendable support legs (pistons + mag plates) to the 8x8 for that extra stability when loading the cargo. Can't wait for the next one! 🙂🙂
Welcome! Good idea. I put stabilizers on my excavator, yet didn't even think to add them to this build.
Awesome build! Your giving me the itch to do a themed survival build.
Thank you, glad it inspired!
@EngineeredCoffee I'm thinking about doing a triton playthrough all ice and snow inspired though. May record it. Not sure yet
What a great truck
If you want it, an O2 gen fits right behind the front connector on the bed and you could put A/C in your cabins, and fill tanks and bottles on the road. I've thought about a design like this for a long time but was never brave enough to try to make it work. Great job.
I agree! Especially after driving it around this morning and quickly running out of O2 because I forgot my bottles 🤦♂️
Awesome stuff sir. I don't see anyone else using the "engineering" aspect of SE to anywhere near the degree that you do. Fun fact for the algorithms: A day on Venus is longer than a year on Venus. A year on Venus is 224.7 Earth days while a day on Venus is 243 Earth days.
Thank you, I appreciate that!
Instead of a mag plate, could a merged block to a little bit better for the cargo? It would ajuste the alignement. Also it the merge block is further in on the container it would not screw the length.
Possibly, I would have to experiment with how Clang would react.
Now that you've made the HEMTT, you can make a variety of palletized loads for it. Like a battery one that you just drop off hooked up to the turrets, or even a complete turret system-as-pallet. You can also make a travel bunker/cabin for exploration or prospecting. Modularity is fun.
This are all great ideas! Especially the battery pack.
Batteries and extra ammo with the elephant nose attached to push it as needed
I'm sure enjoying this build series! I don't know if you needed the extra hinge at 34:58. You might be able to control the height with the wheel suspension which you may need to adjust during transport anyway. Just a thought. Your build style is so good, not too busy, just right! I absolutely love that truck!
That's certainly possible. It did only end up at 15degrees. Leave it to an engineer to make it more complicated.
@@EngineeredCoffee I work in Civil, so you're certainly right about that.
Well damn Sir looking good
Thanks! The complex is coming together.
The new truck is great, only thing id swap is the battery (between the cockpits and inset connector) to an o2 generator for better usability
I agree after driving it around a bit this morning. Also forgot the spare tire.
genuinely fascinating, this indicator system. I usually just use scripts but I might just have to switch over to this analog system
I normally use scripts too. Pushing myself in this series to use vanilla controls to see what we can create.
I'm looking at it, wondering how a hybrid system using something like the fancy display script for the icon display, but still having that "piped" layout with controls.
@phforNZ , that would be pretty cool
1:30 you should make solar panels
Good idea, I need a power station episode in the near future.
Welp, stealing the control center idea for my base. Lol you have such great aesthetics for your bases and all, great work!
I don't think I'm the first by any means. Steal with pride 😉
Discovered you through Aegirs most recent video and immediately binged the entire Martian Engineering playlist. Love your videos! Looking forward to the next uploads :D Edit: Could you share your wheel settings? Rovers are always a challenge for me and I would be interested to see what settings you used
Welcome aboard!
Just sat down to eat breakfast and look a nice Engineered Coffee video to watch!
Enjoy! Both the episode and your breakfast!
adq armor expansion mod has 3X1, 4X1, 5X1, AND 6X1 slope blocks
I absolutely love this series. The time you take to talk out your thinking as your designing has actually helped me refine my building style. Add in your doing things with ÆGIR now and the only thing I could hope for is you pop up and play on one of the servers I play on.
That's awesome to hear! It has been a long time since I played on a server... maybe when work settles down I can find the time.
Also thank you for the coffee!
Im here to VI-X the series out. Does your suit have a different voice?
🤣 Optics! Yes, AQD - Computer Voice Lines mod.
@@EngineeredCoffee ooh, I should make one....that screams vi-x at everything.
hey @EngineeredCoffee! came here because you got recommended from MadMavn and i have to say i love this series! keep it up
That's awesome, thank you!
Love the excavator I’m glad your doing cool ways of doing tasks
It was a fun build to make!
Awesome. All caught up. Actually found your channel through Aegir. Glad I took his suggestion and checked you out. Look forward to the next video and awesome base.
Thanks! Aegir is a great designer. Glad you like the base so far!
Launch pad Blast shield. That's impressive.
Also I am deathly Afraid of Subgridding. I just don't do it. Makes me more jealous of the landing pad.
@Quantum_Tator I normally don't either, but static grid seems less risky.
Still enjoying your content. Congrats, you already got 1k subs! I hope you keep growing strong, as you surely deserve it. I would like to submit an AI heavy fighter build of mine to your appreciation. Maybe you find some use for it in this series. Let me know if you are interested.
Is it on the workshop?
@@EngineeredCoffee Nope. I am a bit shy about my poor skills. The main purpose would be to let you see it, make your improvements, and apply your color pallete to it. If Workshop allows to upload a blueprint as private and let me share it with people I choose, I could do it. Is that possible?
I like the end 😂 ... I watch the serie in 2 days I love it a lot, the designs, the whole process, it is a 10 for sure. Thank you very much for that entertainment ❤
Engineering is hard, words are harder
Keen needs to pay you to build out some of the random encounters you can find as a player
I appreciate that. That's what my friend Smokki does, and I'd say he's doing a pretty good job. I will keep my career and just have fun with you all on RUclips.
@@EngineeredCoffee Fair, I just mean to say you build some awesome stuff. I enjoy watching the series and getting inspiration. I have two more episodes to go and them I am caught up.
its criminal how you dont have more subs , i love this series
Tell your friends 😉. It's only been a couple months really, I've been pretty surprised how fast the channel is growing. Thank you for the support!
I shared recently with some friends of mine who play.@@EngineeredCoffee
That drone looks and works great. I need to get better at building them.
Man this drone looks really cool. Looking forward to the next episode.
Very no-jetpack friendly place, would be fun to explore!
If you build this cab down instead of treads up couldn't you have all the controls for the arm on your main toolbar?
Absolutely. You could also control the arms as is from the main toolbar and just not drive until you access the remote if you want that setup.
Ok I watched the next one right now. This really is a great build. Looks close enough to the real thing with a futuristic vibe and also functions similarily. As most excavators have more than just a bucket attachment. Im tempted to build something like this next time I play.
Man this looks awesome.
Thanks! The tracks mod is amazing.
@@EngineeredCoffee yeah but the tracks is only part of it. Tomorrow I will watch the next episode. Cant wait to see the cab and body being built and to see how it all operates when finished
Good video explanation, really good job at providing a simple setup and the reasoning behind your choices.
Glad it was helpful!
I look forward to catching up in this series. I really like your build style.
Awesome, glad you enjoy it so far!
