Why isn’t Mohler praising God for Lawson’s fall because according to Calvinism, that Mohler believes in, this sin was predetermined from before the world was formed and so Lawson had no choice but to commit adultery, it was God’s fault. I do guess that u r Filipino, just like me. Anyway, the problem with Steve Lawson is with his doctrine. It's really burdening. He rejects what he calls "easy believism", yet he himself sinned bigtime. Woe unto those who reject simple belief in Jesus and have eternal life and at the same time sin. It will feel like both Satan and God will be against u.

God takes another false teacher down. Lawson carried on a 5 year "affair" (I feel sorry for the woman!) while lying, and being prideful and self-righteous to the end? Lawson was predestined to be an abomination in the sight of God.

Food for thought… The avoidance of acting out on sin is not the same as true repentance. The Pharisees avoided acting out on sin and Jesus had no qualms about pointing out, very publicly, that they were spiritually decomposed despite their squeaky clean behavior. In Matthew 5:27-30, Jesus calls us to address the root cause of sin rather than the expression of sin. The cause of sin is not loneliness, the cause of sin is not seeing a beautiful woman, the cause of sin is not a lack of accountability. The cause of sin is not the presence of opportunity. The cause of sin is unrepentance. It saddens me to see Rev. Mohler encourage people to merely avoid the expression of sin instead of encouraging them to turn away from their sin to seek God, the only source of righteousness…but that is the state of church leadership today.

As a pastor, my wife has been my greatest help outside of Scripture and the Spirit of God. I am surprised at the number of Pastors who go off preaching, but their wives are not by their side. This is where the problem starts. A husband and wife are to be one flesh, together in life, together in ministry. The more blessed you are in ministry, the more known, the more you need your wife by your side, not less.

God has a purpose for us all 😢.

A catastrophe? I don’t think so. Maybe for his family, but a blessing to the church that someone had the courage to force a confession and have the preacher removed. And why are you so reluctant to name the sin or the sinner? I think it’s obvious you’re referring to Steve Lawson’s adultery. Also, I object to your referral to a “fall”, which sounds accidental. A 5-year “relationship” is not accidental. There’s something already wrong in a preacher’s life if an actual “fall” occurs. However, once a “relationship” is begun, it takes foresight, planning, deceit, mis-use of resources, etc. Those in leadership need to examine where their true loyalties lie and stop trying to dress up the facts with fancy language. Can the sinner be saved? Most certainly, but not if those around him fail to speak plainly and instead comfort him in his sin. His family and co-laborers are the ones who need comforting.

Oh the monstrous burden Reformed Calvinism puts on man. And upon all who listen to such.

The structure of the American church is not biblical. Making gods out of these ego driven "ministers" is wrong. Every man is a minister and is to work out his own salvation and with trembling. Every man is a minister and a covering for his wife and children and sanctifies them by his obedience to God. The early church met in homes and small gatherings to keep each family strong. Walk away from these tax exempt corporations and unbiblical empires, and you will not be disappointed.

Thank you, Dr Mohler for the comfort and admonition. I am encouraged that you mentioned the donatist controversy in church history. Understanding the present catastrophe hinges on understanding the way Augustine properly proclaimed that the word of God does not fail!

I'm not minimizing Pastor Lawson's fall at all. But we must bear in mind what happened to King David. He committed adultery as well as murder to cover it up. It doesn't get much worse than that. God punished him severely, but continued to use him. I heard a pastor say that he no longer felt he could use Lawson's books, but if that's the case, the pastor should also be prepared to disregard David's psalms.

Of course he is repentant! He will be repentant for the rest of his life! Even though he has been forgiven fully by our merciful Lord, he will never forget the tragic events that his sinning brought about in his life and his family lives! We are all sinners and as such, if we are Christian’s and repent, many times for our past sins, we will carry the emotional scars, even though we have the assurance of forgiveness and a clean slate, a new beginning, the hope of glory, even so, the memories of the hurts we inflicted to Jesus, who we crucified, the failure to remain faithful and our weaknesses of character,will remain with us for many years to come! It’s not just the advent of social media that has changed the landscape. It’s also, and more importantly, the advent of a massive and highly profitable evangelical industry. Publishing, conference speaking, start-up training schools, and on and on. Highly gifted communicators and executive managers have lifestyles and work roles that are entirely novel when compared to all but the most recent season of the Church. The assertion that, “I have no sense” that sin (specifically, abuse of power to get sex, subservience, or cash) is more common among Church leaders is far from a researched claim. It’s honestly laughable on its face. Leaders today can rise to unprecedented heights of organizational power and wealth. It is foolish to ignore this and pretend that the real difference is how quickly news travels in the internet and social media age. Honestly, it’s irresponsible. We simply do not need much comment at all from highly powerful evangelical men who are cashing in literally and metaphorically in the corner offices of a crumbling age of evangelical entrepreneurship. We need to see the poison in the water we’ve been swimming in for far too long. Another podcast commenting on Lawson took time to advertise their sponsor and invite listeners to their upcoming mega conference where 1,000’s are expected. The podcaster made a point to highlight that there’d be “lots of great merch” available at their upcoming event. I think a thoughtful re-read of that paragraph will expose a lot of what’s deeply wrong in the Church of the west today.

I am less concerned with someone’s view of eschatology that I am the fruits of the spirit that are being produced. The more I investigate the Bible, the less I understand the present day church. I recognize with lack of tone this will sound pompous, or perhaps even arrogant, but it’s only a person who is observed much of the entire church recently, and I’m quite confused by it, and would have much more respect for Christians, who didn’t use platitudes or scripture out of context.

The church has been condoning this behavior for many years! Not calling and sitting down the head(s) of churches. They are our leaders, there has been silence. Knowing that judgement will come to the house faith 1st! The anointing flowing down, Psalm 133:2, the oil signifies, the blessing, leadership, and the passing on to others following.
