GO Transit's F59PH's and Bilevel Coaches Rocking on the Guelph Sub: Part 1

GO Transit ran a two year pilot project providing GO Train service from London to Toronto. This involved one round trip from London to Toronto on week days. The inbound trip departed London VIA Station at 05:14 arriving at Toronto's Union Station at 09:13. The outbound trip departed Union Station at 16:19 and arrived at London VIA Station at 20:19 This trip was almost 4 hours long and much of the track west of Kitchener has bolted rail and quite a few speed restrictions. The bolted rail and telegraph poles still standing gave a 'branch line' feel while the over grown foliage blended in great with the green and white colours of GO. Aug 5, 2022 They are INSANELY bright! Watch as the new fleet rounds the bend alongside the Gardiner Expressway. The headlights of the cars on the highway don't hold a candle to the LED's of these new trains. Great video Love the F59 and the original gp40s, gp40-2w, f7. My question is that in model railroading there's a standard to run at scale speeds ( slow) When operating the engine is it frustrating to run at extremely slow speed? ( Real train)
All depends sometimes you gotta go fast and other times slow. A nice slow ride out in the country side 😉

Great video! Some really cool shots in here. Here's some extra context/info: Extra service between London and Toronto wasn't a bad idea, but the way this was executed was asinine. It was a 5am departure from London and a four hour trundle over track that wasn't suited for this nor upgraded to make this more feasible. The reason MP40s couldn't run it was because they exceeded the weight restriction on the giant bridge in St. Marys, so as a result the trains could only go to 10 cars. Towards the end of the service the ridership was nonetheless promising, and with better timing and infrastructure it could have been a good service. The reinstatement of VIA trains 82 and 83 which use the Oakville and Dundas sub helps London commuters with a 2h15 trip, but passengers between London, St Marys, Stratford and Kitchener are out of luck. They're still stuck with a late-morning 84, which was retimed to avoid the GO train and hasn't returned to the original schedule.

@@Leafsfanforever there might be relections off signs here and there but the main thing blinding them would be the same bright lights from an opposing train. Just look away for a short period of time. Similar to driving your car.

After reading the video description, it got me wondering. Do you know which subdivisions (in Ontario anyways) have the highest maximum authorized speed? I'm guessing it's related to the track classification. And anywhere I can look this information up?
Im not sure where it can be looked up but in Ontario CN Kingston Sub, VIA Brockville, Chatham, Smiths Falls and Alexandria Subs all have 100MPH authorized speed which is also the fastest in Canada. There is also some 100mph on the Montreal to Quebec City route as well. If I find out which sections I will update this comment. 🙂

Nice video. I like Siemens venture trainsets but must admit I’m a bit disappointed in their actual performance. Many breakdowns like June 13 where 2 Siemens train broke down same day
