The real history behind House of the Dragon
So sorry to know that sweet Freya has crossed that Rainbow Bridge, and I'd only just found your channel. Could tell your loss is still very raw. Young Loki cannot replace her, but will undoubtedly prove a worthy successor. Enjoyed your damp visit to Bridgenorth; I think it might be worth revisiting with Loki on a sunny day. Best wishes to you and yours for the future - Subscribed.
If I remember correctly Mary was meant to be drowned but it was too complicated
Actually, your doctorate is not in anything approximating what this video contains. What you are doing is speaking outside your education and expertise. This explains why you spend so very much time rambling in this video, not actually informing us of anything substantive. And I quote: Juliette Harrisson specialises in the reception of ancient Greece and Rome in modern popular culture, and in myth, religion and folklore in the ancient Roman world. She is currently working on a project on ancient Greece and Rome in Terry Pratchett’s Discworld with Martin Lindner, University of Göttingen, and on an edited volume, Playful Classics, with Martin Lindner and Luis Unceta Gómez, University of Madrid. She holds a BA (Hons) in Ancient History from the University of Birmingham, an MA in Myth from the University of Bristol (funded by the AHRC), and a PhD in Classics from the University of Birmingham (also funded by the AHRC). She has taught at the University of Birmingham, the Open University and the University of Liverpool and has been at the History department at Newman for 12 years.
I watched both series. It took me an entire season to warm up to the characters in the UK version. I find the US one much better written and more enjoyable.
37:47 I disagree on the era of her outfit. I'm American, so the fashion timeline might have been different in Germany, but that outfit looks very 80s to me. The shape of the sweater, the pleated jeans and the pegged ankles are all 80s trends.
Sessapis speaks perfect English because if he spoke broken English, people would be screaming racist and all the actors, writers and director would have been cancelled after the pilot. It has nothing to do with development of the character and logic within the concept of the show.
Just found this video and want to point out that the US ghosts isn't set in New England. It's in the Hudson Valley of New York, in Ulster County. That's about 2 hours north of New York City, so it's the Mid Atlantic region rather than New England.
Here's a possibility with Thorfinn's poor command of English: Perhaps he DID learn English while he was living, and has had trouble adapting to the changes over the years, while Sass learned a much more modern form, as a completely new language after his death.
I feel like an interesting aspect of Mary's witch burning is that it wasn't her original death- they planned on having a drowned witch but couldn't figure out how that could possibly work on film, so went with burning instead, reagrdless of historical accuracy.
Honestly im British and i don't usually like American remakes but the American version is great and unique in it's own way. Very american humour. Im looking forward to the other versions
Id love if in a later episode we would have some Napoleonic Soldiers Like Nigel and issac in this case we already have a Military figure but maybe something like that
I haven't seen the show but I'm interested in seeing all versions. I feel like Robin being able to speak french but struggling with english is a bit of a dig at the french, as brit comedies like to do.
It’d be neat if they had a crossover. Like if one of the other couples went on vacation to the US bed and breakfast.
It be intresting to see a home children ghost that wants to find there lost family
There could be several American versions. A California or Texas or Michigan version could have a wildly different cast of ghosts than the upstate New York location of the CBS ghosts series
I think petes group is called The pinecone troopers Or was
One country that might be difficult to adapt Ghosts for would be Canada. Not that they couldn't try it, but our (yes, I'm Canadian) history is so closely tied to that of the UK and US, that it would be hard to come up with characters that could be diverse enough from the other two versions to make it interesting.
Keep learning 😊. Although Ohio is often considered the eastern part of the American Midwest, it actually goes at least as far west as Iowa, and definietly into the next time zone.
@@tractorsold1 My husband is from Michigan, nearly all of which is EST
@classicaljg I spent summers in Michigan, and I can remember when Michigan did not do daylight savings time. Rural Michigan hada lot of recognition, and the farmers did not want EDT.
Upstate NY isn’t New England and the Hudson Valley NY is hundreds of miles away from eastern Massachusetts
It is not really about The dog ... It is about the human context.... you got it wrong ...
Cute dog.
I'd rather walk through Flower or Mary than Isaac, that's for sure.
Alison _might_ get stuck in the house if she died, but not necessarily. Mike would inherit the house, though, and the ghosts couldn't do much to him.
A 30-minute show should not have more than three minutes of commercials. It's ridiculous how shows on commercial television shrink and shrink.
I'm so very sorry to hear about Freya! 😢 Losing a beloved fur-baby is devastating and I feel for you in your grief. ❤ It's wonderful that you've welcomed little Loki into your life. In the days to come, I hope you are comforted by happy memories of Freya as you make new joyful ones with your new pup! 😊
Thank you :)
I wouldn’t call Carol Pat/Pete’s ex-wife. She’s his widow.
The very famous American short story (which has many adaptations), “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow,” features the Headless Horseman. I could actually see combining the Captain and Humphrey somewhat for that. It’s always interesting seeing what parallels people find between ghosts on the two shows, since the U.S. version sometimes combines traits from different characters. Sometimes Kitty and Flower are compared, for instance. I do think it’s interesting the characters they skipped - Thomas’s least appealing (for a lot of viewers) trait is his continued bothering of Alison. He’s eliminated, but that bit is given to Trevor, albeit (I think) temporarily. There are certainly American poets. They could have used Phillis Wheatley, for instance, a black female poet during the Revolution, for inspiration, On the other side, Matoaka/Pocahontas/Rebecca Rolfe died in England, but I digress. I enjoy both shows.
The right dog finds us when we need them… I NEVER thought I’d have a dog because of my lifestyle, ( I moved around) but then Monty turned up … we rescued each other!
Freya sent him… ❤❤
This was really interesting to watch! I personally see a lot of similarities with Kitty and Flower in terms of personality to be fair - I feel as though Flower is a bit of a mix between Mary and Kitty!
So... a Chandelier hey? Make a reference to a famous not-Ghost Ghost Story.. Phantom of the Opera.
I want a Japanese version.
They're putting the no-pants Ghost in boxers? That seems rather prudish for the French! Even the US didn't do that.
🥰🥰as much as the heartache is still there for Freyapup, Mr Loki will help take part of that and heal you all so Welcome Handsome Loki. We look forward to your mischief 😁😘
Seeing your heartache makes me want to reach through the screen and give a massive hug, so I send one virtually 🤗. Welcome to the adorable Loki, and look forward to his little adventures.❤
@@suzypatch Thank you! He is a lively boy so hopefully he will enjoy getting out and about soon :)
I'm so sorry about Freya. It's so hard to lose a good friend, and with kids it's another level entirely. I think other animals do help the grieving process, obviously not a replacement, but another companion to share and enjoy life with. Hang in there, I think Freya will be with you in spirit while you welcome your new pup into your life.
@@jesserato Thank you!
Awww im so sorry for your loss. We lost our 16year old shih tzu last year & i couldnt cope without a small dog now we have a crazy puppy called Twig. Loki will soon settle in xx
@@BeverleyButterfly I’m sorry to hear that - I hope Twig is settling in well!
@classicaljg he is he's so cute & often appears in my weekly vlogs he's such a star looks like a muppet lol
Oh Juls - I'm late to this. I'm so so sorry to hear about Freya (I just watched the previous video) - I know how much you loved her and of course she can't be replaced. And it happened so shockingly fast. Devastating I'm sure. Sending love. I'm sure Loki will be a massive comfort and keep you very busy! He is GORGEOUS. SO FLUFFY. I love his face - he looks completely unfazed. I can't wait to hear how he settles in. Take care - I'll see you soon.
@@dogontheplot Thank you xx He’s doing very well! Not used to being in the house so we’re working on training and reducing accidents, but he seems happy to be with us I’m glad to say!
Maybe the plague pit and the land their village was on were close enough that both of those places are one and the same?
@@awaywiththetheories1833 that would make the most sense :)
Robin speaking french is probably just a little jab at the french
Great name
We were staying on theme ;) And this one has the MCU connotations as well!
I'm so sorry to hear about Freya, your new addition to your family is so adorable!
Thank you :)
I told you that there was a little dog out there that needed to love and be loved as much & as deep as the sorrow in your heart Loki was waiting for you! I was thinking of your little boy and the loos that he cannot understand. I trusted that you knew what was best but how can you explain such a wonderful being as Freya, a little doggie disappearing one day? Blessings in the form of pup Loki have rained down sweetly on you. Take your time, give him lots of love and patience. Little boys take longer to train, though he is a Corgi therefore, smarter than the average dog so it won't be long! So, happy for you! All love to your little boy! He deserves this so much! I bet Loki is smarter than you realize, and will surprise you with a very extraordinary personality and great charm! Our late Queen would be very proud!
You were absolutley right! We just weren't functioning very well without a pup and this wee boy needed a home, we had to take him in :)
We read a book in one of my classes were we talked about the specific burial practices of a native american group (i believe from northern michigan but i unfortunately dont remember which one). No plaugue pits but ceremonial reburial from more individual graves to large communal ones.
Mayhaps the Collaborator be an analog to the Nigel character in rhe American version?
It can even go to other countries. Like even though there is a USA ghost. They could do a Canadian ghost and you’d get different results and histories. I’m Canadian and I’d love a Canadian ghost
be ok, I actually really love Allo Allo :)
please tell me you know about gef the mongoose!!!
I've never heard of that one I'm afraid!
