Kao govornik maternjeg jugoslavenskog (bosanski, hrvatski i srpski), razumio sam dosta slovenskog. Pak je to jezik koji je vrlo sličan bosanskom, hrvatskom i srpskom no ima dosta razlika, ali se razumije.

My father was born 1918 and learned old Slovak from his parents. In 1985 Ukrainian group visited us in California, and they understood each other perfectly. My mother understood even better, but cannot speak a word of Slovak.

in German a chair is also Stühl. And polish cats were commonly called Maćki. Maciek in Polish is not only a male name. It's an old, dialect word. One meaning is 'a cat', another - 'a belly', 'fatso'. Maybe 'takie Maćki', means 'takie grubasy' (fat cats). And 'jagody' in old Polish also means 'girly cheeks', because they were blushing. Maybe like strawberry ;) Jagoda it is also a polish female name :)

With this 'kurak' it's very interesting. In Łódź (and Zgierz...) there is a part of a town. In the past where the chickens were bred. However in my childhood I found this odd, because in my family the word 'kurak' was also connected with colloquial term of 'penis' - ptak, ptaszek (a bird, a little bird or 'ptica', 'vták'). Kurak in Polish is not even 'a chicken' but 'Bażant, kuropatwa' ( 'Bažant, jarabica'/ Fazan, jerebica)

Hmm...interesting.i am Slovak so Czech is like second native language for me and i have fluid comunication in Polish like 90% spoken and maybe 20% writen (its hard even for other west Slavs write in Polish)...but i am surprised that Slovenian language is understandable in context...same it was for me in Croatia (so i guess Serbian will be similar).kinda understand ukrainian with help of body language
