Love at 22 - Ambient Synth Ballad (ft. Roland SH-4d, Yamaha Reface CP, Eventide H9)
Finally. a video that shows what this new synth is capable of. sounds really nice. Why do most reviewers use cheesy sounds and bad licks to review new synths? I've been waiting for someone to make actual music on the polyend synth so I knew if it was any good or not. This is really nice.
Genial Ambient Sound👌🏼👍🏼 Felicidades y Saludos😜
Awesome. I got this on my list for ambient hw synths. Some people complain of some bugs/glitches but I didn't notice any here. Anyways, thanks for the upload, take care.
Great music, well done! Maybe next time you can connect external mini synth or iPhone and expand for som nice lead pattern?
does this work with china lights?
Yes. I’ve used it with Lixada, OPPSK, and U’King. Many of the profiles can be found on the manufacturer’s profile site using the WTOOLS app. Some I had profiled myself before finding the ones provided from the makers of Wolfmix.
Maybe i missed it in the video, but what did you use for a mixer?
It was daisy chained through to a portable recorder (VS Mini into SH4d into Circuit Tracks into Circuit Rhythm into Tascam X8). Each device’s internal sounds were mixed internally, and then each device’s main mix was gain matched (or “mixed”) to the level from the previous device’s feed.
This is exactly the kind of video I was looking for. Informative, simple, and with great musical examples of how to use it with the SH4D. Well done! 👏
Thank you very much. I’m glad I was able to help.
It’s arguably integral you uploaded this with the oops part because showing us what not to do reinforces what we should do. As Bob Ross would call it, a happy accident. Thanks for this educational video!
Just trying to keep it real. 😁 Knowledge in the negative space works for me. Thank you for your encouragement.
Keep it going. You've got a good presence. made me consider both purchases.
Awesome, thank you!
Great video!
Thanks!
great video! launchkey looks amazing and a great companion for hardware synths
It really is!
Thank you for watching and commenting. As far as transferring third party patches, that’s unfortunately the unit’s Achilles heel. You can save the entire memory of the unit, and you can restore the entire memory of the unit. You cannot externally save and restore individual synth patches, drum kits, or patterns. I truly wish Roland could fix this with an update, but so far, it doesn’t seem they have.
It is too dark
An unfortunate side effect of how RUclips can sometimes render HDR in SDR.
Great video. I’m looking to pair up a MIDI foot controller with the SH-4D to play notes with my foot while I play bass. My SH-4D is still in the mail, waiting to be delivered. I’m trying to learn as much as possible before I receive the synth. Looks like a powerhouse! I have one question, can we transfer 3rd party patches to the SH-4D from a computer via USB? I can’t find any documentation related to that. Also that bass drone sounded awesome

Is there any noticeable audio latency when going out from the CT to external synth and then back into the CT?
Not that I’ve noticed.
Love the approach and style of this video. Super informative and no nonsense. Thanks for taking the time to show your process and how you are working around the move's limitations. It's cool to see everyone still figuring out this little box and pushing it to its limits (Ableton pun intended). Keep making great content is the only suggestion I have - no improvements needed. I watched to the end and started looking at some of your other vids. Sub'd.
Glad it was helpful! Thank you for your encouraging comment and for subscribing.

thank you, you made exactly what i looking for
Glad I could help!
Thanks for this, liked and subscribed. I see you apply the amount of quantization you want after the fact, which I'm guessing means you can then compare the unquantized/quantized recording using undo and redo (if it has a redo). Also, can you alternatively set quantize before recording as you can on Circuits?
Thank you for subscribing and commenting. That is correct, you can compare quantized and unquantized Shift-undo is the redo. Unfortunately, there’s no record quantize
Nice, this is pushing the limits of this thing. I don't know why these companies don't realease a Rompler-based groove box with a slightly more normal keyboard that's not so expensive as OP-1.
Yes. I imagine something like a revival of the Yamaha QY70, but with a true keyboard. Or perhaps a hybrid of the modern groovebox combined with a classic Casio keyboard from the 80s (the consumer models).
@@lectronin Exactly the Yamaha QY70 + plus a keyboard, even if pads like OP-1 or the Korg nanokeys. Now the best deal and feature set is the MPC Key 37 which is impressive but not portable and most people don't even need that much tweaking. The Sonicware XT range is very complete but too tiny, it's mind boggling how they put their powerful high end machines in a Gameboy type box and reserve the larger box for the cheaper Liven series. I'm sure some kind of cool multitrack + sampler box with keyboard will come out in the next couple of years though. And they should use people's phones for screens already.
you can stop you sample by adjusting your hold time for now. I believe they are working on a proper stop all sounds function.
I hope you’re right about the sample release.
There's something really sad about the idea that this supposed musical device can't even support non 4/4 meter.
I agree that it would be nice if it supported it on a more native level, as Ableton Live can.
Pretty smart workaround. Thank you!
You're welcome!
I've made beats in 3/4 no problem. It detected with capture just fine. I figured it just worked
Thank you for watching and commenting with your experience. I would like to achieve a similar ease of experience with capture myself. One of the reasons I got the Move was to start experimenting with beat creation through performance capture as a new methodology. In the first video I put out, I used the capture method. I wanted to edit my performance, but found that I wasn’t able to quantize swing without changing my initial approach.
Thanks so much for taking the time to answer my questions from your previous video. I really appreciate it. That was such a great performance, I just had to know more about it. Now I see that the root notes are replicated on the pad grid, and the Move's "chromatic pad layout" is unique. I'm used to the chromatic pad layout from the Circuit Tracks which resembles a piano keyboard, so that's why the Move's pad layout had me curious. Your musicianship in these videos is really refreshing because it adds so much more to the videos vs. a straight "gear review" that focuses solely on technical specs but doesn't show the gear off in a musical context. Thanks for all the effort you put in.
Thank you very much for your encouragement. Your comment makes the effort worth it!
How do we turn the metronome Volume up or down??
Thank you for commenting. I’m not aware of a way to change the volume of the metronome on the move. However, the alternate metronome I created in the video can be turned up or down by pressing the pad of the metronome replacement sample while adjusting the volume knob.
You listed everything in the video EXCEPT what lights you used. 😂
Thank you for pointing this out. I've added them to the description.
Hi , what are the bars/battens you use... Look cool!
They're the Freedom Sticks. It seems I didn't list them in the description. They're now listed there with a link. Thank you for asking.
The speakers are trash
They're not particularly loud, and of course, not very full range. I think this severely limits their utility.
Just get a MiniRig mini. Takes practically no space, and it will BLOW YOU AWAY w/ the sound it delivers. Crank it to 100 w/ zero distortion. It’s why they’re usually sold out.
Thank you for the suggestion. I checked them out. They look great from the description, and you weren't kidding about them being sold out.
Great hack bro!
Thank you!
This is great!! Which piano preset are you using? And more importantly how did you get it to do 6/8 time? I thought the Move was limited to 4/4!
Thank you for watching and commenting. It inspired me to make a video that answers you question here: ruclips.net/video/nDp73cxIPVM/видео.htmlsi=JBMNYZ23O0SAptdZ
👌🏼👍🏼😜
Thank you!
Sounds awesome. I really like the tones. Can you please explain a little more about what we're seeing? For example, when you're playing the piano riffs, there are other pads lighting up green as you play, that you're not touching. Are those just replications of the pads you're playing but in another spot on the pad grid? Is there a pad layout that represents the notes, so that you know what you're playing, that we may not be aware of as viewers? Thanks! Great video!
Thank you for watching and commenting. It inspired me to make a video that answers you questions here: ruclips.net/video/nDp73cxIPVM/видео.htmlsi=JBMNYZ23O0SAptdZ
amazing work honestly, had me swaying my head! 💖
Thank you so much!!
Great video!! I didnt even know the Mk2 was released recently!
Good news, right?! The added MIDI functionality is just what I needed for my purposes.
I wanna see how well it plays with other devices… No midi I/o is a worry…
Agreed, if you mean no dedicated MIDI ports. Even the USB compliant connection is either in, or out, but not both.
Dusted off my Tracks while waiting for my Move to ship, I forgot how good 3 year old Tracks is at controlling other synths on MIDI3 and MIDI4. Now that I think about it, it's had a lot of the features of Move all along.
I think the Tracks is a better central sequencer/brain, and probably better overall for performing. I think the Move might have the edge when it comes to translation to production.
I bought a circuit tracks and haven't used it. A few days ago I saw a Canadian YT talking about the Move. I'm like w00t?!! I watch the video and ordered one. It is a blast. I don't sell gear at all and I am considering selling my Circuit Tracks QUICK, though I want to experiment with using Circuit Tracks some first. As some had commented the Circuit Tracks is similar but different enough (midi sequencer) that it may warrant keeping. I need to take it out of its case and give it a go. Even though the Move's screen is tiny it is helpful. The total lack of screen has always been a bit of a negative, even for a scratchpad/groovebox like the Circuit series.
I think holding off on selling your Tracks for the moment is a good decision. I think the two units (Tracks and Move) may be complementary in a mixed performance/production environment. I don't know that they complement each other, but the Tracks is a better performance unit, acting as a control hub for a group of DAWless units, whereas the Move will be a portable device for sketching ideas. I've used the Tracks in production, and I've seen people performing on the Move, but these aren't their strengths.
spettacolare !!!☢☢☢☢
Grazie mille
GREAT‼️ comparison. Thank you so much. I’ve watched some video’s of the Move vs the Cicuits, but nobody explained it this well. 👍🏿
Thank you for watching and sharing your encouraging words.
The main attraction of circuit tracks is on-the-fly sequencing and not only sending midi but recieving audio that can be side-chained to the drums. If there is a efficient way to perform these functions native to the Move then it will essentially solve issues I've had with Circuit Tracks from the start.
Yeah, I was just wondering if there was a way to side-chain tracks and pads on the Move. I think it does offer more assignable tracks specific FX than the Tracks (which has to have synth FX pre-assigned in Components).
Thank you for the video! Do you mind explaining, what is your process of exporting midi data from circuit tracks to Ableton?
Its cool, but 4 tracks is not enough. Get a Digitakt 2.
Or render a track to audio and assign it to pad on the drum track.
@@Geekraver Yes. The fact that this is possible is a major bonus to the Move.
I've actually considered the Digitakt 2. It seems that it might be the only DAWless unit on the market that addresses my desire for drum fill/transitions performing with sequencers.
4 tracks is plenty. If you need more open you DAW
@@Kevinschart I disagree
Ive had this same thought - I sketch ideas on Circuit Tracks & treat my ableton workflow somewhat separately , because transfering projects is so dang complicated. I've gotten used to a nice multi-tier appraoch - my studio & two portable setups are split into hardware based section, driven by the Circuit Tracks, and the Midi / Ableton setup, driven by the Push. They meet in the middle in my studio & projects exist only as audio recordings for final projects in ableton. Having messed with Note and Koala - the ableton project export efficiency is where the process flows smoothly. I'd be tempted to keep both Circuit tracks & sell some other gear to get the Move. Then see which one dominates my process, overall. This certainly ticks many boxes, that's for sure & is currently threatening Circuit Tracks role in my workflow.
@@djofortunato5799 Thank you for your comment. It’s given me food for thought. I have a Move on order. Once I’ve received it and tested it, it’s bound to re-contextualize the Circuit Tracks (and Rhythm, and the SP-404 for that matter) place in my studio and workflow. Right now, I think the Circuit units still have a little more going for them in terms of live performance, while the Move would be more of the production sketchpad.
I have a Circuit Tracks and used to have a Rhythm but sold it because I didn’t want to be tethered to a computer to manage the device. The Novation devices are very cleverly designed but are tragically let down by the lack of a display , which makes it impossible to effectively do any sound design (ever tried to use the same sound on more than one project?) and its extreme dependency on a computer for sound design, management of presets and samples. They are fun devices but are shockingly overpriced compared to the competition including the Move, which has an enormous amount of features exceeding the Circuits. The Move looks good value but it’s not for me. I don’t see the point of a “sketchpad”. I want one platform where I can write my songs and finish them, apart from perhaps final mixing and mastering. Saving for an MPC key
@@hvhvgitaar I’ve noticed the same issue with the Circuit units. Even though I thought about going into Components to manage packs and create my own synth patches, I find its implementation of file transference to be dissuasive and non-compelling.
Yeah, I picked up a tracks earlier this year. I bought a case to store it. I haven't even picked it up to play. I have had the Move for a day and have already sketched out two songs on it with what little time I have.
vs Roland mc-101
Interesting. I've never worked with the MC-101, but it has four tracks as well. The S-4d has from synth parts, plus a rhythm track, but it doesn't have an equivalent of the "clip" function, just a continuously running step sequencer per part.
Funny as the MC-101 was sitting in my Sweetwater cart when I added this to my cart. I had to relocate it to my wishlist / maybe later list. I had long forgotten about the MC-101 when I bought my Circuit Tracks earlier this year (and still haven't used). Love the Move though, already skecthed out two different song ideas.
