- In this video, We talk about the dark, which out of all 10 of the different elements is the most forgotten. It only had 5 unique characters with various different variants, even the light element (which was announced at the same time as dark) had more figures. What I don’t like about both the light and dark elements is that they were always treated as secondary elements. Both superchargers and imaginators gave them less figures than other elements despite them not being new anymore. (I guess it makes sense in superchargers due to each element only getting one option, but still it would’ve been cool to have an affordable spotlight or blackout option.)
I kinda feel like it’s the opposite and they were treated as special, more exclusive elements
That just sounds like an excuse for them to be lazy with character creation if I’m being honest.
There should’ve been a Dark Bazooker and a Light Sharpshot; I already gave them catch phrases:
“A BOOM in the night!”
“Reach for the Sun!”
It’s likely a balancing issue. When it comes to elements it usually hard to create weaknesses for dark and light outside of eachother so you always make them a secondary to be used alongside something else to amp it.
Often in early 2000 game development those elements were either too overpowered and overran whatever game you were playing once obtained or they weren’t useful at all.
@@BU2B as you mentioned all other elements had a repose as their second and I guess instead of breaking with that rule they decided to just make only one supercharger each. Imo the fault lies in trap team, cos even though having two trapmaster for each new element would be overkill, having two cores wouldve been totally fine

It sucks how few dark skylanders were released. There were knight mare, blackout, nightfall, hood sickle and starcast. Only 5. The first 8 elements in SSA has 4 in their element. Almost as many dark and light element skylanders.

I think one of the reasons dark and light failed is because they tried to make them seem special by only really making one or two skylanders per game. I think the concept of light and dark is also super limiting, especially when the aesthetics they cover are already covered by fire and undead. If it were up to me I’d have had ice and electricity since they’re different enough from already exsisting elements (please ignore that ice themed water skylanders exist and like a single electric one exsist in the air element) to actually stand out. The properties of these elements would’ve also made combat much better.
It's so forgotten it didn't even get it's own Lorne Balfe composed theme
The Midnight Museum/The Dark Gate just has stock music that absolutely sucks
Sunscraper Spire was composed by Balfe for the level and light gates but dark got nothing

Hood sickle is my favorite. But that's because of trap team, and his voice in imaginators.
Same, never played him in Imaginators but I like his voice and attacks in Trap Team.
I also like him for the glitches

So many characters would fit into these elements more than their current ones

There's also this Pandergast element in Skylanders Superchargers Racing, assigned their exclusive vehicles Clunker and Blunder Bucket. Their intro animation displays an icon of Pandergast's hat and glasses, instead of an icon of an element like Tech or Earth. It doesn't have an official name so I call it the Pandergast element.
the element wasnt forgotten but they wanted light and dark to be special and only had like less then 2 games to release them considering there level packs in trap team where only at the very end
Hood Sickle performed the glitch of getting into the ? elemental gate in Trap team and became part of the element in Imaginators
Intentional or not it’s a not I agree that dark fits his character much better
I will say I love Nightfall's characterisation in the comics, making her a foil to the more excitable Stormblade and it what made me really want her. I also think another reason why the element was left in the dark (pun intended) was because the light element was a lot more memorable, the sunscraper spire level in trap team had a shocking plot twist, Blaster Tron was a huge fan-favourite villain character (more so than Hood Sickle) and the designs for the light elements were generally more creative. In fact Knight Light and Blastertron are both in my top 20 while I don't really have a favourite for the Dark element...

I think the reason dark has so little is because it’s meant to look evil while not being to scary for children which is a hard balance to do while with other elements it’s easier as you have more free range in design choices
Dark and Light should have been there from the beginning.
I feel what made them special is the fact that they were created by the destruction of Cloudcracker Prison and the whole deal with Skylanders is light vs dark so in the first half of the franchise it makes sense that they’d be sides rather than elements
my theory is that Light and Dark were gonna have a bigger placement in the Skylanders universe, probably being a major thing in the 5th game, but for some reason, the idea was scrapped and they kinda just made a few figures of the element to keep those fans happy. Still don't have any Light or Dark skylanders to this day.

We’ll light and dark are equal in the amount of stuff they received and if anything dark is more known in a way as in trap team 3 dark villains are in the main story while light has 2 it’s 3rd in nightmare express
Nightfall is my favorite Dark Skylander.
(Due to the fact that I also had horrible hair when I was young hence her soul gem being called “Bad Hair Day”😂.)

Wild seeing Skylanders content that doesn't feel like its been designed for small children.
I just sold all my goddamn superchargers skylanders and didn't realize that there was adventure mode. Sure I don't have the wii U, but I had like 10 skylanders and vehicles and they only sold for 4 bucks. What the hell was I thinking, I want to die. Dark spitfire was in there, he alone should have been 3 times more than the entire thing was sold for. Damn it Games Ahoy.

It's like one of my favorites.
I personally love the light and dark elements for skylanders. I remember the mystery surrounding them and due to the fact I was fairly young at the time, even when it was "confirmed" it was still so mystical. At the time I was more interested in the light element and was the pack I ended up getting, and my friend got dark. Recently I've been replaying trap team and have been enjoying using nightmare. (Unfortunately my wallet cant sustain the purchase of the dragons)
Bit of a paragraph here, but I really like the Dark element, so read on if you wish.
I didn't put much effort into my Imaginators until i decide to get a Dark creation crystal last year. I created a Dark Smasher named 'Dusk' in contrast to a Light Smasher made by CrystalBlaizer named 'Dawn'. The story is that they're both siblings created when two piece of Light and Dark Traptanium from the explosion that released the elements fell into an Imaginite cave. When they manifested, they immediately went their separate ways, but found themselves fighting each other on occasion. Dawn, a being of light, joined the Skylanders cuz she wanted to fight evil and protect good, the usual. Dusk, a being of darkness, was offered a position when captured instead of going to prison. He took the position because he saw it as an excuse to cause havoc and commit violence without suffering repercussions.
I remember seeing the dark and light dragons in a toysRus years ago and begged my dad to buy them, and after a bunch of begging he relented, I am still thankful for him for that I know he didn’t have much money then but skylanders was my passion and I still have an entire closet with them. I honestly miss playing but I fell of from playing it after racing, I couldn’t really get into it but still got creationators and I still need to beat that and that was years ago
imaginators is a fun game and all the senseis in it are awsome

Dude, I remember hearing that the dark Skylanders were released and getting pumped. But then when we got to Toysrus they said that they only got a very limited amount and had been sold out for a month. Dark, my favorite element, the element that I never got to play.

Given Light only have one more figure than dark, I would say it’s just as forgotten, also I will give some element changes in Imaginators were weird, it’s because their original element was taken by a more memorable character, Earth already being taken by Golden Queen, and Undead being taken by Wolfgang, Grave Clobber, Tae Keon Crow, and Hood Suckle were just more popular than any other fire, water, or the other dark villains
In Skylanders 7, Brawl & Chain will be an Earth element and Eye Scream will be an Undead element. Because Water being taken by The Gulper and Dark being taken by Nightshade.

For what it's worth - hood sickle is one of the most powerful characters in imaginators and the dark creation crystal is by far the best one. The rest of the dark Skylanders are either mid or just bad. Light just got stronger characters in trap team but they're still nothing special.. dark was actually given a bit more love overall imo because of how good it was in imaginators compared to light. But as you said - imaginators kinda sucks (though the games not awful imo it's just the fact that all my old characters suck in it).

Dark is my favorite element and Knight Mare is my favorite Skylander. It sucks too, because each of Light and Dark only have 5 Skylanders. I believe this mostly happened because of the rushed development of Trap Team combined with the oversaturation issues which continued into Superchargers and Imaginators.
Imaginators doesn't suck. Granted Superchargers was a way better finale and Imaginators may have a pretty lack luster story and bad lore, but the actual gameplay as well as the sensais are really solid.

Light and dark shoulda been wave 1 at the latest. Locking this content was so dumb. Beat the game back in the day before they came out and never bought them. Waste of content and potential.
2:55 I do here that criticism a lot but in defence of that this is the only game you can play as the senseis so you probably wouldn’t want to play as older characters.

I'm lucky I got pretty much all of the dark figures I wanted back in Skylanders hayday. Id hate to pay the aftermarket prices for these.
Especially blackout. He's probably one of my favorite Skylanders, both in design and moveset.

I think the most interesting thing about Dark that can be said is ironically Nightfall. More specifically the gigantic bug related to her in Superchargers. I don't remember the details fully, but as far as I remember: She's actually bugged and completely incompatible with Superchargers on the day 1 version for all consoles and requires an update to work. She was also recalled for that reason and properly released in a later wave once they could fix the bug.
This actually means that the Wii port of Superchargers Racing is the only game that is completely impossible to fully complete the collection legitimately, as it was unable to be patched. Whoops…
Small correction, After the recall following variants of Nightfall were compatible with superchargers racing on wii, therefore making it possible to complete the collection. It’s also not the only game where it’s impossible to complete the collection legitimately because of the canceled creation crystals in imaginators.

@@BU2B Because it's probably a case of SSA probably having the longest dev cycle of any of them, after that it became rushed out yearly, and by alternating studios each game was a 2 year dev cycle. It was inevitable but impressive it took 5 games for the QC to degrade enough for it to slip through
I do believe it’s impossible to 100% SSA on the Wii though. So you can’t win them all
I actually didn't know Dark and Light elements were real in the game until like 2 years ago since I didn't buy any of the games after Swap Force (I did buy each starter pack from the depths of the internet recently though and found these 2 elements at the same time lols)

yeah you see i'm a huge skr for dragons so since i dident get the dragons for light and darck back in the day i'm kinda pissed espesialy bc ppl put them at around 75 to 100 bucks ech and it sucks i dont have the budjet for that and every thime i do they are gone! :/ oh and btw i have all the dragon figs of all the skylander games even the special edition :P
