Hey Tucker, a video that would be good for a stormy day, that I have yet to see... Demystify the wing lines. There are As, Bs, Cs, Ds... breaks and whatever. I would like to see how to pull the wing out of its bag, layout the lines, maybe how to untangle if they get tangled and clip in, stow the bag. I have not seen this in person, so it is the most confusing part.. Thanks Mr. Biscuits!

I cannot wrap my head around the s**t talk route. It is a very basic juvenile thing to do. It says their view on people is that they have no discernment and believe whatever they are told if put out in an "us & them" format.
Great comment on checking the prop bolts! It is true with the Eprops that they do compress and the bolts tend to loosen about the first 3-5 times you fly...after that, they tend to be ok and so I check them the first 5 times I fly when installing a new Eprop....then every 10 flights after that. Great point TG!!!
Hey Tucker I just had the same problem with the pullstart on my new scout too, hope this isnt becomming a regular issue. Glad to know it wasnt just me all the same.
So of course I love your flying videos, but even these grounded vids are entertaining and contain invaluable information to get people pointed in the right direction with additional foresight from personal experiences. Thanks you!! But yeah, more crash video breakdowns and more maintenance tips and tricks would be awesome!!
I'd like to thank you for taking care of your gear. It's not that complacency doesn't provide me steady work, but I'm sick of asking "When was the last time anyone performed maintenance on this?" or the question "Does no one pay attention to AD's?" All of which are thoughts that run through your mind when you're making a repair on the ramp, in the weather, because there isn't room in the hangar.
In all honesty, you get used to the wind pretty quick. Ask a new rider how it is passing an 18-wheeler doing 70mph down the highway. They'll tell you it blows them all over the road. After a little experience muscle memory takes over and it barely moves the bike. The wind is the same. Muscle memory makes the correction and the bike barely moves. That's not to say the wind doesn't push you around a bit, it just doesn't push you anywhere near as much. Where it really sucks is in a corner. You're in a corner, the bike is leaned over and you're railing a turn. All the sudden a gust of wind hits you and picks the bike up and suddenly you're not turning anywhere near as sharp as you were. That's when it gets exciting.
@@divebobber - My favorite experience with wind was through turn 10 at the Circuit of the Americas. T10 is a downhill left and this particular day the hill was partially shielding us from the wind. As soon as you'd pass the apex you're no longer shielded from the wind. A gust hit me and picked the bike up and my line was no longer headed for the outside edge of the track, my line is taking me straight for the scenery. Fortunately, on a track like that, if you don't have the reaction time and muscle memory to deal with the problem there's plenty of run off so nothing bad happens. It was quite the experience having the wind pick the bike up in the middle of a turn and I got plenty of practice dealing with surprises like that in the turns.
Those feet things are called paws. When torquing bolts, I would use a lubricant for torquing bolts made by ARP . Each time you click the torque wrench you are gradually increasing the torque if you try it with a dry fastener. The ARP live makes your fastener more accurately torqued to spec with the first click of your wrench.
Tucker. That was interesting to see that broken part in you starter. I had a starter on my moster "explode" and go through my prop. Ripped off my exhausted, broke my motor mounts, and destroyed my prop. I bet it was that little piece that somehow caused it
Your prop bolts should have holes around the edge of the bolt head for (lock wiring ). Lock wiring is a technique of locking important engine bolts from coming off due to vibration. It is accomplished by passing a wire through one hole and twisting the wire together the proper distance between the bolts and connecting it to the next bolt in a reverse S pattern. If the bolt were to vibrate loose it would be held tight by the wire that goes to the next bolt.
On unflyable days, would love to see a video on you driving up to and evaluating a new launch/landing site, evaluating it for obstacles and then doing flight planning, mapping, discussing emergency options, and show weather eval, preflight checks, etc. I'm sure some people just think your destination flights and new site flying just comes together by chance. A dedicated video to this would be awesome.
The spark plug base is a reliable indicator of mixture strength. Carbon = rich or excessive oil Brown = correct mix. White or grey = lean. Lean is bad, with possible overheating & cylinder detonation.

Hope the weather improves for you guys soon - must be very frustrating! Its also been really windy here in South East England, but its nice today! BTW, you have the van, so could in in Florida in 16 hours! Ps. just been watching the Iceland adventure. Really amazing scenes.
When I was a kid, I had a go-kart that had a bad pull start that would snap back and nearly dislocate your shoulder. Ever since then, I always think of it every time I'm about to use a pull start.
Good stuff, Tucker! This is mission-critical stuff that shouldn't be skimped on. The first 10 hours of runtime are critical to the life of the engine ... and with the cost of these things, people will want to get the most hours possible out of them. As we get closer to summer, I suspect you'll have to lean the low screw out a bit more. Warmer air = richer mixtures, colder air = leaner mixtures. It sounded a bit on the rich side, since it ran perfectly from the initial start up, ice cold - when the mixture is near perfect, they'll run a bit lean (will be a little bit boggy when you blip the throttle) until they warm up - then, it'll run perfect. I don't know if you had the choke on or not ... but if not, my statement stands. Better to have it on the rich side (meaning "fuel and air" in this case, not "fuel and oil", but extra oil is needed at this stage, too) during break in, as you know - keeps things much cooler. Besides that, a richer low speed circuit by default richens the high speed (aka, "main" in the dirt bike world) slightly too, since all circuits overlap from the bottom up (low to high). Once broken in, you can dial in the low speed so it's perfect, which will also lean out the main very slightly. As long as the main is dialed in right, she'll be running mint then! 👍👍 One more thing I want to add for folks reading - oil also displaces fuel, which means a LEANER air/fuel mixture! This is why too much oil is just as bad as too little. This can get super confusing to people who aren't familiar with 2-stroke engines. As you lean out the fuel/oil mix, the fuel/air mix richens, since there is less oil to displace it. I love this stuff - been around 2-strokes my whole life (well over 4 decades) - nothing better! :)
Have you ever thought about getting a wireless weather station to install somewhere at the park so you could just use an app or website to see current conditions at the park?
