Dan: has 25 years' experience playing mtg
Arin: learned yesterday
*I WONDER WHO'S GONNA WIN*
You do know Dan hasn't been playing for 25 years right?
25 years and he taps with vigilance...hes big dumb
MTG has a small degree of skill and experience involved in actual play. Most of the skill and experience comes down to deck building, which also comes down to a combination of luck and money. Most of the game itself comes down to luck - who draws what.
@@Nebafyer_DandD That's incredibly wrong. There is a luck aspect to it, but if you build a deck well and know how to use it, there is a lot of deep strategy about how to use your resources to the best of your ability and gain an advantage. Different stragegies exist, such as aggressive, low mana decks that revolve around overwhelming your opponant before they get a chance to get built up, or control, which wins through dragging out a game and generating "card advantage" until you can win with a threat that they can't easily respond to.
As for deckbuilding, there is a cost factor in there, but at a friendly or local level, you can create a competitive standard legal deck for rather cheap. Even in the oldest formats, which include lots of rare and expensive cards, there exist 'budget friendly' decks, such as soul sisters, Red Deck Wins (essentially a better version of Arin's deck), Mono-Red Burn (not the same as RDW), and green stompy (basically what Dan was playing)
Skill and experience are actually quite crucial to winning a game of magic. Yes, a better deck piloted by a worse player can win against a poor deck piloted by a good player, but if you had a beginner playing a $4k 4 color control deck against a master playing $100 burn, I'm putting all of my money on burn.
@@navypilot47 I said there was a skill aspect to the game, but also a luck one. The strongest strategies either rely fully on that luck, or mitigate as much of that luck put as possible, but even in a well made deck, there is a chance you get two mana in your hand, and the rest is ~ half down the deck. Not much skill involved in a win over that (why tournaments are often played best of multiple matches).
As for deck building, the luck aspect is for sure down to what you get from packs, or finding that rare card for your deck. The rest is down to skill and cost. All the skill in the world isnt gonna beat a combination of skill and disposable income when it comes to MTG.
Modern can help to mitigate that, but it is not perfect, especially as you get twards the end of a modern life cycle where you have the power creep coming in hard (why they entirely scrap modern every 5ish years).

Tcj333 isn’t blue a mill deck?
@@Craftysage72 Not necessarily. Each color has a set play style to it, and Blue is mostly about 'Control' or making sure that the flow of the game follows what you want. That's why Blue tends to have the most counter-spells and cards that bounce things back to your opponents hands.
