One of the greatest lessons Rider taught me is that power is neither good or bad. It depends on the individual.

it truly works like that until this day, i.e Kamen Rider Geats, the length of Kamen Rider Nago to reach happiness, the extremes of Kamen Rider Buffa just to bring down DGP, and how a trickster Geats is to win every challenge, only Keiwa (currently) who holds true justice and kindness like the showa riders.
and don't make start on Kamen Rider Ryuki and Kamen Rider Gaim
also best character development, Kamen Rider Build, they got reforming bad guy, Kamen Rider Rogue

I wont lie that wasnt cringe for me.
    Life is all about experience
Kamen rider was a huge positive experience for you so it's not to far to say it saved you.
I'm 25 and I dont know wtf life is
But I saw double and shotaro showed me that aspiring to be something is fine but make it yourself never force yourself to suppress who you are...
    Amazing video
I hope kamen rider comes to uk too
But as shinamori said "when a era needs him a kamen rider will definitely return "

I love the honesty in this video even if it comes off as “cringey,” and I totally agreed on (most) of the skewered standards in comparison to American Superheroes. Look at how much they changed up Sailor Moon back then for example. I know I sound like a weeb bootlicking japan, but I honestly kinda enjoy these types of heroes, especially since Marvel & DC are kinda goin’ downhill for me.
Still a sucker for Spawn & Dark Horse comics at least!

I don't think I could ever phrase anything here better than you. I remember seeing Kamen Rider for the first time and thinking it was the dumbest thing ever, and here I am now as a die hard fan with merchandise from the franchise everywhere. Watching this video and hearing what you've said about the messages it gives makes me love and appreciate the series even more. Becoming a fan of Kamen Rider has really influenced me and shaped me as a person, and I can't imagine who I'd be if I never got into it. The part where you talk about what Tsukasa taught you has me reflecting on my own life as well, realizing that a lot people who were harsh or blunt to me were also probably just trying to get a message across

Dude, I totally feel you. Back in 6th grade I was pretty miserable. I couldn't get along with more than 1 other kid at a time, I felt like whatever I said was turned against me... my parents were divorcing, we were moving... Things were prety bad.... and then I stumbled on Beast Wars on TV. I watched a tape of Transformers we had over and over and over again when I was younger so when I saw that it clicked and I kept coming back. I didn't know much English at the time but I pushed through. I forced myself to be better at it. I started drawing my own Transformers too... it kept me going. I then saw Gargoyles, discovered Star Trek Voyager and eventually started watching Power Rangers, continuing to improve my English... At the end of High School I was rated at 'near native' level and it gave me something to be proud of.
Beast Wars did for me what Decade did for you my friend. I feel you.

Big Kamen Rider fan here! And very nice video, BTW. I can relate your situation to me as well. Tough times it was, back then. Also, Decade (and additionally, Zi-O) has always been my all-time favorite Rider because of his Legend Rider gimmick, entrusted with the power of the predecessors and appreciating their existence with it.
Anyway, I feel like I want to answer your question in the last part; why can't kids (especially in the west) have this kind of show in the beginning? IMHO, and to put it bluntly, is that the media at the time, especially Saban, are being cowards. Yeah, really sorry if this comes out as offensive, but as a fan of this kind of show, I find it baffling about the part where they would alter its contents just to avoid angry parents.
While I'm fully aware that there might be a much worse real-life situation back then and how Saban really wanted to aim the Power Ranger shows solely for kids, it's like they deliberately refused to teach kids, and every other people, about how to tough up in real life while holding on to your own hope. Maybe it's because they really suck at coping up with things. Maybe most people back then were a bunch of jerks. Maybe they were just bad at upholding the values and messages that Kamen Rider was trying to bring. And that doesn't sit well with me.
The showrunners back then probably don't have the balls to shout out, "This is the story that we want to show to everyone and the message that we want to tell to the people! So suck it up and live with it!" to the people. Perhaps, people used to perceive "kids are kids, adults are adults" instead of "kids CAN, and MUST grow up to be better". Maybe this is why Kamen Rider had never thrived so well in the west.
Which is why, I believe that we need Kamen Rider both as kids and adults, enjoying cool suits, toy gimmicks, and actions while learning the values of reality and one's self-worth, at the same time.

Haha, not cringey at all! I feel the same about it. It gives me something to look forward to when the world around seems so dull and sucky at times. I'm well into my 30s and came across toku about ten years ago or so when Power Rangers Samurai came out. I delved into the source material and was hooked. My first KR series was Black and, oh man, was I hooked after the first episode! It felt like some kind of magic.

I loved the story of how and why you go into Kamen Rider. I've said it before about how I got into Kamen Rider through Power Rangers/ Super Sentai but it was because of the show I love the 90's when they talked about it and the Actor for Zack ( Walter Jones) Talked about the sentai footage mix with American actor is when I started looking for it.

For me Kamen Rider was that show that nobody I knew was knowledgable about.
If I said “Yeah I like power rangers”. I’d get laughed out of the room “duh that shows for kids you looser”. Constant belittling from me piers.
As soon as I made the transition to Kamen Rider nobody knew what it was until Dragon Knight showed up and because that show got an Emmy or nomination it was a bit more easy to say I liked it.

As a kid I use to have those VCR tape of Kamen Rider ZO, Black and Black RX then Saban came along the Masked Rider came out and I always love to do Black and Black RX Henshin pose and all the others kids never know what the heck I'm doing. In 2007 when the Kamen Rider The First and The Next came out, I totally love the look and design cause it has the classic look from the old school rider then I stop from there. I do feel the same way too I did watch Kamen Rider Decade series He does bring something in me that the world is always an adventure like I also say to myself "Life Is Study" and growing up watching it I glad that Decade save my life then I continue to go watch W, OOO, Wizard, Amazon S1 and S2 and Build. IDK why I stop watching the others riders but I still need to watch them too. I'm 26 and still love all my Riders from showa to heisei riders without them I will never Kamen Riders is today and now the reiwa riders is still new and hopefully will continue the journey with it and maybe one day I have my own kids and I will show them who they are too. Awesome video my friend.

Your essay about Rider is definitely accurate and it's extremely relatable. I appreciate how much you've matured. Yoooo.
I remembered masked rider so vaguely and when I saw that Dragon Knight on TV it made me realize that, what is Kamen Rider is actually like? So there was a channel by AllieRX who was talking about Kamen Rider games to the point I wanted to binge watch the 1973 one. Ever since my junior year in high school I've taken a hard interest in the series despite people just claiming it's like power rangers or just the same as super sentai. Kamen Rider hit differently than PR or SS. There was a lot more depth to it and yes I Know it's a kids show but some of the stories went from being pretty dark to almost tear jerking moments...
I need Kamen Rider in my life too.

    • @TheNextDecade
      @TheNextDecade  3 года назад +1

I agree It does hit a lot different that SS does. I do like SS and PR too, just nowhere near as much as KR.
I'm really glad you have the same appreciation for it like I do.
I just looked up AllieRX, they seem cool. I gave them a follow.
and while V3 isnt available to stream yet, I know the DVD's are available through Generation Kikaida's website.
But you can always watch the OG 1971 show over on Tubi, or Shout Factory for free~
Thanks for watching and sharing your story Metanite. New videos coming very soon~👍

I'm with you. Kamen Rider changed my life for the better. I started to care about how I looked, what I was eating, etc. It made me realize I didn't really want anything in life other than love and peace. Now, I don't want to be a police officer or anything but I want to help out a person in need if I am able to. It also taught me that it's the people in your life that are important. Take care of the people you love and you will live a happy life. This comment was all over the place but that's probably because of all the tears. It's not cringe to say Kamen Rider saved you. It saved me too.

Lucky for me, my country TV imported Kamen Rider Black from Japan along with Power Rangers from USA.
Yeah, Power Rangers are cool, but Black is godly. The sleek black suit, the big red bug eyes, the cool henshin pose, and the soundtrack.
From that day I found Kamen Rider Black (dubbed in my country as "Satria Baja Hitam" or " Black Steel Knight"), I said screw it. Why would you want to be a red ranger when you can a one grasshopper cyborg army.

all of them are good story telling and life lesson ( Jetman, Winspector, Metalder, Jiban, Janperson, Gavan, Sharivan, Kamen rider Black )
because of this, when I was a kid at school, helping the weak who got bullied ( I was bullied too until I first saw them all ) still remember when I fought them back, feels like the courage from all of them are gathered inside me. Im proud for it that I can save my friends and someone elses at school.

More or less your origin story is mine haha! I really appreciated this video. I've met people who liked the show for it's aesthetic, but no one who took it quite as deep as you explained in this video. Kamen Rider is something that still helps me from the random bouts of depression that comes and goes in life. I would not be the person I am today without this franchise. I currently live in Japan, and my dream is to work on bringing more Toku into the US. Kinda like the initial few guys that brought over Sentai and made it Power Rangers.
I'd love if you ever made a video on Tokusatsu Gagaga! I've never watched a show that had so fundamentally knew the type of person I was.

Man this is crazy... I have almost the same story you do.
Well, except the happy ending with the career and wife. 😕
But I got into Rider more-or-less the same way.
I still fondly remember that Saturday when they aired 'A Friend In Need', calling up my friend and saying "You gotta turn on power rangers right now!! Ya gotta see this!!! There's this bug guy and he's taking it to all 6 rangers at once! This is nuts!" 😂
Got into the heisei era stuff later on and really took to Faiz & later on Decade.
With Decade the whole "other" aspect of the character is what I related to the most. Just the constant derision and rejection. Even his own home dimension, he couldn't call 'home' anymore.
It's something I could really relate to.
Anyway, I know you want to get into filmmaking and total shot in the dark here, but there's a rider/toku-related project I've been trying to get going for... ever now... Gonna give up eventually as Im not getting any younger, but maybe you might be interested. Who knows. 🤷‍♂️

growing up as that southeast asian kid (indonesian) in the 90s, kamen rider is a big part of our childhood, the private owned tv channels gave us the best of Showa Kamen Rider, we got Kamen Rider Black and Black RX, then Kamen Rider Super One, Straight to the 2000s, the tv channels gave us Kamen rider Kuuga (uncensored, yup that decapitation really hits me hard), Agito, Ryuki, Faiz, Wizard, Den-O and W. I even went to rent kamen rider hibiki from the anime/toku rentals. And now in the internet age, after i was going through a hiatus of kamen rider since den-o, i finally picked it up again, started from Kamen Rider Build, and Amazons. Then got hiatus again from zero one and zi-o, then picking it up again since Revice and GEATS. Also Kamen Rider Spirits is the GOAT

My Kamen Rider show i have watched was Kamen Rider Ryuki. it was aired in Studio 23 channel here in the Philippines somewhen around 2004 i think but that channel was gone since around 2007 or 2008 i think. Year 2011-12, I came back watching Kamen rider series when I saw Kamen Rider Decade in youtube recommendation. Up until now, I am still watching Kamen Rider series even if I am 26 years old now. Kamen Rider is always special to my heart. Now, I am planning to cosplay Kamen Rider Ichigo. I will make it happen soon :)

My first Kamen rider that I ever watch is Black and RX, these two make me get into Kamen rider. Of course they don't have megazord like power rangers or super sentai but at least they are badass by themselves with their bikes, weapon and form. After them I started to watch ZO, J, Agito, Ryuki, and stop at Blades as I grew up. But I never get to finished all the series and episodes because I don't had internet back then. But when I move new place and making new friends in my neighbor and start hanging. Then 1 day I come to visit my friend's house, he was watching Kamen rider Decade in his computer. I ask him, " Is this new Kamen rider?" He reply back, "No he is more a year old." I think that was like 2010. But while I was watching with him and my brothers too, we saw some of the Kamen rider that we recognize in the past. After that me and my brothers start watching all of them well mostly some of them. My brothers stop after Gaim but for me I stop after Zi-O but there's some of them that I still need to finish Kamen rider series. If wasn't for my friend, I never get to finish the Kamen rider story. Love them all, and I recommend you all go watch Kamen rider if you are big fan of superheroes like marvel and DC. Go watch it.
