It's interesting to note that the mother goose didn't attack the officer. It knew she was helping.

***** Didn't realize men are now allowed braids and the woman's voice saying to the officer helping the goose "do you need a knife to cut it?" and "good job!" was awfully low. Either you need to re watch this video, or the cops there are very "progressive".
In spite of the fact that some details are hard to see, I do know that's a blond braid folded under. "He" also has something (barrettes, bobby pins?) holding "his" bangs on top. I know, it's not PC of me to assume that it was a woman, I guess

They say the mother actually came and fetched the officer by pecking on the patrol car and leading to the baby. Not sure how true that is.

I don't think we should underestimate so much nonhumas' intelligence. Many humans so often make this mistake thinking that the universe revolves around the human species and ignoring the effects of coexistence. And damn those bastards with balloons!

Of course they understand to come help she is a worried mother , worried mothers will panic and go get help just like she did. Just because they are animals does not make them incapable of reasoning the situation. She probably did try to help her baby but knew it needed a human so that is why she asked for your help. it was probably her last resort but she was willing to take that for her baby. Just happy it was you and not a person who would have hurt her. People really do not give animals enough credit. Thank you officer wonderful job

Sharee Clifton - The mother goose actually sought out the officer. He was sitting by the park in his car and the goose started pecking on his door. He had been eating a bagel and thought the goose wanted a treat, so he tossed a piece to the goose. She ignored it and started walking away but kept stopping and looking at him. He decided to follow it and found the baby wrapped up in the balloon string. He had called for an animal officer but none were available so an available female officer showed up to help.
There's a longer cut of this video on here, Inside Edition covered it on their show and it gives the backstory. My dad is a cop, and he loves feeding the geese that hang out in the field behind our house, and I sent him the Inside Edition version of this story when it happened cause I knew he'd get a kick out of it.

Oh those wily Canadians, coming over here to have their anchor babies and demanding assistance from our tax funded public servants. She was rather clever to look at humans as a rescue tool and was surprisingly astute in giving the officer some distance to work. Both of these actions are opposed to her instinct and require intelligence to overcome it. You'd never see such parental devotion from a ptarmigan. It is a privilege to communicate and interact with another species.

My understanding is that they are seeking refuge....Some ridiculous claim that if they return, they risk getting shot. But, We...The United States, welcomes its borders to the beleaguered, and they have been put up in a half-way home, while their Status is approved. Food Stamps were issued, and a job ( supplying down, for Pillows ) was given to the Mother.

PM C, we have to recall our history in these matters. In the 2004 presidential campaigns John Kerry use Ohio to show his support for gun rights by shooting a Canada goose. I don't think any of the current candidates will likely do that, so it should be safer to be a goose in Ohio.

That is one smart Mother Goose to seek out human assistance (A lot of trust there !) and even more astonishing is the fact that the police officers actually paid attention to Mama Gooses' cries of distress and then followed up to see what was happening. All in all this is a wonderful video showing true compassion for this lovely water fowl and her baby even though so many other people may have just walked away and never have given it a second thought. Bravo officers for being there when ANYONE or ANYTHING come to you for help. This video gives me hope for seeing less of human selfishness and more of honest giving to others. YES YES YES !

someone would ask, is she helping, should she be helping, or is she interfering with the balance of nature?'...just because we can doesn't mean we should...no other species would of intervened and untagled that poor goose....or is she rectifying the doing of man who created and discarded the object so carelessly without second thought...

    • @divadoodledoo
      @divadoodledoo 8 лет назад

+Beto Garcia I agree that some would consider this a breach of "letting nature take it's course " but this is not a naturally occurring event Since man has literally altered the balance of nature I think it;'s totally terrific that someone would step in to rectify things - Non biodegradable garbage is not conceived by "Mother Nature" - Unless there's a way to eliminate synthetic agents & restore the "balance" it's actually an obligation to reduce collateral damage ( and suffering that is a result )

To the many of you that commented today..............
Thank you for such a positive and generous response to this video. I was so pleased to see such a overwhelmingly receptive response to what we watched.
There is indeed, hope for us all !!
    Be well. PM C

i am so impressed when an officer takes the time to do something like this--it shows a certain kind of heart and understanding of the true meaning of service. thanks to you. and shame on all you bitching about how it's filmed, etc. The only thing i couldn't understand is why one officer didn't hold the gosling while the other untied. but i guess then we wouldn't have gotten to see this wonderful video. it really shows though how dangerous balloons are, as much as i love them. not only do animals get tangled like this, but the ballloons fall into the water and are eaten by fish and fowl, who get them entangled in their intestines.

Thank you for helping this mama goose and gosling! You are wonderful people.
I hope people watching this think twice about letting balloons go--especially en masse, like at weddings. What goes up must come down, and balloons can tangle or strangle wildlife, or choke them if they try to eat the balloon. They aren't biodegradable either.
