    I just discovered your channel while using my Art ‘n Fly pencils. I experienced the same thing with the mineral spirits lifting the colors too! Beautiful drawing 😍!!

    This does look like a nice set. I have become a huge fan of oil based pencils after getting a small set of polychromos last year for Christmas. I always got so frustrated with my prismacolors breaking. However, oil based are still pretty creamy without the breakage.

    It's great to see these products in action, and you do such an amazing job with them, too! The tones you get are fabulous! This piece clearly shows off your skills with colored pencil, which is a treat to see! Thank you! As for the company, I've had to decline their offers to "try our products," as the aggressive marketing of these private label resellers can be overwhelming and annoying. All these products come out of the same factories in China with little difference between any of them, yet the resellers like Arteza, Meeden, and Art-N-Fly audaciously claim to be, "as good as the big brands, without the marketing budgets." In my experience, there's a reason the big brands are big and I have yet to find a Copic knock-off that's actually as good as Copic. So, I wonder, do you think the inexpensive price and lower grade quality over companies like Faber Castell or Prismacolor are a worthy tradeoff? I used to work with Arteza and Meeden, but stopped because I just couldn't get behind their products. Does Art-N-Fly fall into their categories or is there something more special about them that you would recommend? I value your opinion as someone who knows the difference, so before I open that door to Art-N-Fly, it's good to know what I'm in for, first. Thank you again for sharing your insight and skills! Always good to see! Cheers! ~ Mark

      Hi Mark! So good to hear from you! I want to say thank you for your kinds words. It’s always good to hear from someone you respect that you have their stamp of approval 😄 I too stopped working with Arteza and most of the private label, smaller brands pretty much due to the same reasons as yourself. I touched on this a bit in my Holbein pencil video, which wasn’t received well by everyone, but many understood. I always feel big brands in art supplies are usually as high quality as they live up to the names. You usually get what you pay for, and I certainly don’t think the lower quality brands are equal to large name brands. I do realize that there’s a market for artists who are looking for a more budget friendly option, so I try to offer those but now without involving cheap, private labeled or pretentious branding. My experience has been great with Art-N-Fly on a personal level, and I can say that while I’m not a copic expert, their brush markers are fantastic and I haven’t seen anything that has a variation or similar package. They’re a proclaimed small family owned business here in the US. I can’t say they compete with Faber Castell Polychromos or Holbein, but they’re definitely a great option for someone who can’t drop $200 or more on pencils or markers. I’m also trying to be more discerning about not only what I buy or what I review but where I buy from. If I can’t find it at my locally owned art supply stores, then I will go for Blick or Jerry’s after that. Thank you for the question! I hope that answered it well. 🙌

      @@ArtistJane you're so right in being a discerning shopper, especially these days. In all the years before RUclips, we had to rely on what was available and word of mouth. If someone I worked with used Berol, then that's what I got. I really appreciate your perspective, as obviously it's so valuable to have the insight of someone I trust and can rely on to provide real-world use of a product. You definitely have me curious about Art-N-Fly. Thank you for that! Stay well and happy holidays! ~ Mark

    I just got my set in the mail. I tried them on sketch paper and they were a bit scratchy,... then I broke out the bristol paper and wow it was like butter. I bought the 48 pencil set just because I didn't trust them for being so cheap, and after a frustrating couple of weeks working with Prismacolor pencils (on that rough Strathmore heavy duty paper) I got so sick of them breaking every other minute! The colour is vibrant, and really impressive, and I suppose it's just a matter of time before I get used to oil based pencils. I've also never used any type of solvent on my pencil work, so maybe that is the key? Thanks for reviewing these.

      You’re very welcome and congrats on your new pencils! Yes, paper has a lot to do with how pencils will perform, and your frustrations with prismacolor are exactly why I don’t use them much anymore. I do want to recommend Polychromos at some point if you find yourself using oil based pencils a lot. They are truly beautiful. I think playing around with different ways of blending and practice are key. I prefer odorless mineral spirits for Bristol board, but I recently did a piece with the colored pencil powder blender and fixatives in Uart sanded paper, and while there was a learning curve, it offered infinite layering! It was an interesting experience!

    Loud and clear! How do the pencils measure up to Arteza and Derwent?

    • @ArtistJane
      @ArtistJane  4 года назад +2

      Well with Arteza being waxed based, they're a different feel and aren't quite as vibrant as Arteza, but they layer better than Arteza. I believe Derwent hold the crown the though. :) These are still really great oil based pencils, especially at the price point.

      @@ArtistJane I pulled the top away of the wall a bit and it worked. But I live in a pier and beam, old house so it settles and shifts frequently and I just haven't done it this time. They have to be balanced to work...so you are correct, they are very temperamental! LOL My Grandma's clock was electric and I wish I would have saved it when she passed....nothing like that cord going down the wal. 🤣🤣 LOL. I hope you get yours working!

      @@ArtistJane thank you so much! i'll look that up. i haven't done any swatching yet. I tell myself that it's because i barely have time to art, so no time to swatch... but really it's because I am lazy. LOL so i figured if there was a big book of pages like you showed here, i might give it a try! :-) p.s. i really love your videos, your personality just makes me smile.
