When Alf rode your local TT course it caused a buzz because in his era he set the benchmark time for that particular measured course .......everyone would say with astonishment " he beat my best time on that course by _________ minutes"
    It was usually several minutes.

whenever alf turned up on the boro we would make sure we went out to see him either in flight or at the start. I felt a tad sorry for eddie adkins, another great speedster who i think broke the existing 25 record to see alf better it shortly after. gotta say tho the current record of just under 43 mins is insane lol, as is the 100 record of 3:13

i have ordered my copy from bromley video , i can hardly wait for it to arrive !
for me he was a sort of ''keith moon'' of cycling , super talented and a it of a bad boy.
the footage of alf racing and his savage starting effort is superb !
i would love to see a documentary on tommy godwin next but perhaps there is no film footage ?
thanks ray for another great dvd.

Freeze at 1:37 Alf's brakes are at the back of the bars, right under his nose, aerodynamics ! Just read "I like Alf" good read but i would like to have seen his full training schedule, not just "280 miles a week"

You were lucky to have 6 on the back. Think Alf only had 3. Freeze at 3.20 check out that block.

i seem to remember a top gear of 118" using 57 x 13 was popular with the top riders with a 13-17 block

i love bicycle racing, i was also at the Encino Velodrome the evening that poor man locked bars in a match sprint and died on the track. that night bicycle racing changed for ever. insurance companies became the regulator which removed an element of independence the pack needed to self regulate each other. now i watch on television, i see too many crashes. i see hoopla about using controlled substances. i see an elitist sport run by corporations....
