Sometimes I get sad because I was in Jr. HS at that time, and a lot of those commercials & tv shows I used to watch with my dad who passed away about 8 yrs ago at age 83
Back when the Olympics was a family event. Back when Budweiser commercials were the greatest. Back when we had great music. Back when cars had personality. Back before the spirit of Rocky was kicked to the curb. Back when comedy was funny. Back when they actually played football.
Aaah. September of 76’, I began my senior year of High School, I had my first boyfriend. Watching this reminds me how I took these days for granted. Life was easier to navigate, things were simpler. It reminded me of my parents, and how much I miss them 😢
My middle daughter was born in November of 1976. I was busy with babies during the 70s I had three daughters born 1973, 1976 and 1979.😮 Thanks for the video.
That was me in the late 80s and early 90s! First daughter born in 87, second daughter 1990, and third 1992, and now all 3 of my girls have kids of their own. Time sure does fly!
The Sears commercial brings back memories to me of that once great retailer. I really miss them. All of the Sears stores were closed in Connecticut. I know they have an online presence but there's nothing like going to a brick and mortar store. I bought most of my clothes and coats from Sears. Sears was synonymous with high quality. I remember the great Craftsman tools that they sold with the lifetime warranties. If you wanted high quality tools that would last for decades then Craftsman was the answer. I know that Black & Decker bought the Craftsman brand and Lowes sells them but I tend to have my doubts that the quality is still there. Anyway, thanks for the memories! 😀
Thanks Fred, was waiting for this one. The month I turned 16 and hit the road. Look out America, get the women and children off the streets! Lol. Who could forget Battle of the Network Stars? I really appreciate these videos, they sure bring me back, Nov. of 76 was the first month myself and my family all moved from LI NY to a town called Wickenburg Az. little of a culture shock, but after awhile we loved it there, I was 12 years old, at the time, I would love to go back if I could that is for sure!!!!
A magical year. Graduated 7th grade and entered 8th. The bicentennial celebration in our city was spectacular, featuring a full professional fireworks display which I had never seen live before. Saw my first funnel cloud on July 4th. We got a new station wagon that year to replace the 11-year-old clunker that was the only family car.
My mom was pregnant with me at this point in 76. Only 4 more months and i would arrive on the scene in March of 77. I like watching stuff like this and seeing how the world was before I came along. 😊

I just realized something about "More Than a Feeling": The repeating chord progression behind the chorus is the same one behind "Tend My Garden" by The James Gang. (Geez, it only took me, what, 48 years to figure that out? LOL) Fred, that vocalist doing the jingle for the Mercury Capri has to be Dionne Warwick.
I was 14 1/2 in November 1976, and while we rarely ever went to a drive-in (well, other than the Christian Free Drive-In because it was, well, free), we did go and see Carrie. Great movie. And that Sears Tele-Games Super Pong I have in my collection, though I need to repair it. A lot happened in late 1974 and 75 (beginning with the chaos of my father's death, and the aftermath) but we were doing pretty well beginning in mid-1975 and continued in 1976. It looked like we were finally getting some stability.
What days those were. That Boston album was great, a real home run. Also my last month as a 17 year old...and thankful they had ended the draft! Thanks Fred!

You can tell that Harry Reasoner does not want Barbara Walters there at all. You could tell by their first broadcast together that they absolutely totally hated each other.
Agreed Micheal Rochester. When then ABC Boss Roone Alredge signed Barbara, Mr Reasoner should have been replaced as her Co Anchor. Reasoner was long rumored to so sexist that I heard unconfirmed rumors he did think Women should *not* even be in the journalism profession at all. Not to mention Walters making more money than him made it even worse. Frank Reynolds who lost the Anchor seat a few years before was the best one and should been paired with her. Or even Peter Jennings. The only bright spot of this Harry/Barbara anchor pairing fiasco(read in books and also from Walters bio)was that this put ABC News on the map on both the national and international stage as among the top tv news outlets on the planet.
Hearing the late Ernie Anderson's voice over's for those old ABC show..is just beyond nostalgic ....also Denny Dark on NBC who had a very similar "voice"
I was 4. One of my few memories is deciding that 4 would be my favourite number and remembering Baa Baa Black Sheep tv show, maybe because of its title. Not kidding a couple of my few concrete 70s memories, I was 7 when the 70s ended. I have some definite impressions of being that age and I remember somethings about that amazing decade.
I was an usher in a movie theater when these films were out. I'd forgotten about Two Minute Warning but I remember having to be outside in December when lines for Rocky were around the building and it was snowing outside. Saturday nights always smelled like popcorn, patchouli oil and marijuana lol.
Because Gone With the Wind aired on TV this year for the first time, this was also the month that the Carol Burnett Show did the "curtain rod" sketch parody....
What great memories. My very first concert ever attended was the Spinners and they performed Rubber Band Man as the feature song. A lot of kids I grew up with where really into groups like the Eagles, KiSS, AC/DC, etc. But I loved the sound of Motown and just wasn't interested in spending money to see a group unless they had that "Motown sound". I also had a used 76 Capri when I was a senior in HS (79). I really loved that little Capri, was affordable and looked great.
It's amazing how Network predicted the scourge of reality TV more than 20 years before it happened. Among other things that were coming. A dark, dark film that gave people an idea what was ahead.
That Budweiser commercial i think thats the same one that was playing in the background in Roy Neary's living room on Close Encounters Of The Third Kind the next year in 77 ....used love their Christmas commercials
Love the outfit part of the commercial..you mix and match..Herb Tarlek (WKRP reference) would be proud. Think I remember used-car salesmen wearing those ^_^
ABBA was the first group I began to like that wasn't The Beatles. Fernando was the song that started it. Who in the world stayed up till 4AM (on the East Coast) to hear an election report??? I have yet to see Network *shrugs* That blond haired kid in the Kool-aide commercial was one of the Bad News Bears. Glynnis O'Conner was one of my first TV crushes. Battle of the Network Boobs...uh, I mean Stars. Don Rickles is an American Treasure, along with Frank Sinatra and Johnny Carson. Olivia Newton-John what a dish! That Creepy cover is awesome. I remember those Raw Power things. I can tell you every kid in my neighborhood that had one got beat up a lot, lol. Thanks Fred.
I was a high school junior. We had Civics class back then. They need to bring that back! I also had a class called Personal Law where we learned, among other things how to behave when being arrested. Teacher said the first thing to remember is you don't hassle the dude!
I remember in 1976 there was something called a great American history test, which was a two or three hours special. I got nearly every question right and I was like eight years old.
I had already moved into a one-room hotel ($27.50 a week) when I discovered I never learned how to use a laundry washing machine (which was down the hall). I also bought a 13 inch 'UUMGA' (MGA) TV for a hundred dollars. I learned later it was stolen. Before I left the hotel- it was stolen from me.
Baa Baa Black Sheep is where Donald P Bellisario got his start. He was submitting movie scripts and was down to his last dime. He was a fan of the show and decided to try to write an episode. Needless to say it worked.
So do I. Even though I was only three years old in 1976, I still remember some of the old Starlog covers. Ironically, 8 years later, I started reading it. I still have some issues from the 1980s, 1990s, and early 2000s.

Thank you fred
I had girder and panel building sets and American Plastic Bricks in a cardboard cylinder, those were some great times
I've said this time and again; While Rocky is a good movie, Network should have won the Best Picture Oscar that year.
Agreed! One of my all-time favorites. "You have meddled in the primal forces of nature, Mr. Beal..."
It's amazing how Network predicted the scourge of reality TV more than 20 years before it happened. Among other things that were coming. A dark, dark film that gave people an idea what was ahead.
Or Taxi Driver.
Just turned 15 that September. I remember that yr well. My last yr in middle school.
That Budweiser commercial i think thats the same one that was playing in the background in Roy Neary's living room on Close Encounters Of The Third Kind the next year in 77 ....used love their Christmas commercials
That's why I ran it, Reese.
Very fun watch for me. I was 14.🙂
My eldest sister Angela sold Avon. She was great at it, R.I.P
I was 5 and it was my 1st year of school. Lol!
You're welcome, Doug. Nice comment.
I was a high school junior. We had Civics class back then. They need to bring that back! I also had a class called Personal Law where we learned, among other things how to behave when being arrested. Teacher said the first thing to remember is you don't hassle the dude!
Thanks Fred 👍
I remember in 1976 there was something called a great American history test, which was a two or three hours special. I got nearly every question right and I was like eight years old.
warm and fuzzy Bud ad ! oh how the mighty have gone astray
Alice Sweet Alice was the scariest made for TV movie ever! 🙀
love those battle of the Network Stars, was rooting always for ABC, would that type of show happen today, in 2024 ???🤔🤔🤔
I had already moved into a one-room hotel ($27.50 a week) when I discovered I never learned how to use a laundry washing machine (which was down the hall). I also bought a 13 inch 'UUMGA'
(MGA) TV for a hundred dollars. I learned later it was stolen. Before I left the hotel- it was stolen from me.
the women were the prettiest in 76! of course, i was a 16 year old boy at the time. 😊
Baa Baa Black Sheep is where Donald P Bellisario got his start. He was submitting movie scripts and was down to his last dime. He was a fan of the show and decided to try to write an episode. Needless to say it worked.
Tuned 20, new job new girl life was good.......................................until i met her mother YIKES!!!!
Ha!
Rocky taught us what it meant to “go the distance”
I think the boy in the Kool-Aid ad was the same kid who played Toby Whitewood in the bad news Bears
Battle of the network stars would not happen today unless you talked to their agents and saw how much they would get paid.
You are right. God bless you! Jesus saves sinners
Love The Starlog Magazines.
I still have Issue #1.
So do I. Even though I was only three years old in 1976, I still remember some of the old Starlog covers. Ironically, 8 years later, I started reading it. I still have some issues from the 1980s, 1990s, and early 2000s.
The hypocrisy of all the nostalgic comments wondering what went wrong....all I can say is, look in the mirror. I did.
Gremlins and pacers were pretty cool
