“She’s a Mentor” fun fact, in the odyssey when Athena is assisting Telemachus she disguises herself as a human named mentes… and then later another human named mentor. The guidance and help she provided Telemachus as Mentor is where the word comes from. So she’s not just a mentor, shes THE mentor
Fun fact: for the official watch party, this song was accompanied by a fighting game animation, the animator of which is making an epic the musical game!
I'm not sure if this has been confirmed but I think the electric guitar happens for other characters (namely Eurylochus and Telemachus) when they're trying to emulate Odysseus. It happened for Eurylochus during Mutiny when he was trying to emulate Odysseus's leadership, literally rebelling and taking Ody's place as captain. While it happens for Telemachus here while he's trying to emulate Odysseus's strength, as seen in the line from Legendary "I would fight them if I was half as strong as you"
This is actually confirmed! Antinous actually has a few fun musical emulations. Yes the electric guitar (but a bit grungier than Ody's) but also the backing vocals of the suitors (Eury's whole thing) and he also has trumpets, giving Telemachus the same feeling as when Ody confronts Poseidon.
It's still a few away but make sure after you watch "God Games" that you then immediately watch "hermes in god games" by gigi. It's less of a musical and more of bonus Hermes goodness!
When I saw Troy's original video for that I was laughing so hard I teared up. I know Jay has pretty much cast every part perfectly but Troy is just literally Hermes irl and I love that so much
Jay has mentioned before that Antinous' instruments are a perversion of those he's meant to oppose: he had an electric guitar to show that he wants to replace Odysseus, a cello led string quartet (i believe that will be displayed in the last saga) to contrast Penelope's viola led quartet, and a trumpet. The trumpet is actually because Poseidon's instrument is a trumpet and Antinous is the main antagonist to Telemachus in the same way that Poseidon is to Odysseus. He's also represented by the voices of the suitors in the same way that Eurylochus was represented by the voices of the crew. Telemachus' instruments are a piano, an acoustic guitar, and some strings as well (for Athena, his dad, and his mom) though i firgot what strings exactly
For a second i was like "I already liked this video!? But i havent seen it yet" then i remembered that i liked it when it was announced a couple days ago. 🤣
Fun Fact: Antinous(The main singer in the first half of Little Wolf) seems to be a false hero to the suitors, trying to take Penelope from her windowing thus he takes others instruments like Eury’s backup vocals and Ody’s guitar
So you proberly remember Little Ajax mension in The Horse & Infants. Well he got his own book about how he got home or more presisly got smithed by Athena for ra’ing one of hers prothet
Zeus doesn't actually give Odysseus the option to see his family again. He just said, someone's going to die, either you or your crew. Ody is the one thinking about his family. So, I don't think Zeus really cares about where Ody goes or what he does after destroying the ship. He just ensures that Ody isn't killed in the blast. If Ody drowns in the ocean after that then se la vie.
3:31 When a guitar is seen on a other character, typically it is seen as those characters trying to imitate Odysseus (E.g Eurylcous trying to take the ‘captain’ from him in mutiny, Antinous fighting to be the ‘leader’ of Ithaca)
I love duvetbox's take on telemachus as a kind of angsty young dude who does TRY to train. Similarly, I love their portrayal of Antinous as fully willing to treat Telemachus like his son, but also being the kind of jackass that would beat his sons.
Towards the end there, you can hear the other suitors join Athena's singing when they sing the chorus. I like to think that they are cheering Telemachus on in this fight because he's doing a stellar job against Antinous at the end until the latter wins. Of course, why would they cheer for Antinous? Because ultimately, they're all rivals for Penelope's hand. If Antinous loses, then he'll be removed as a candidate. They're not personal friends, they all hate each other and this is just entertainment for them.
I'm SO EXCITED tos ee your reaction to the next song. I have no doubt that there's gonna be more JenSqueals(TM) and I'm stoked. 😂 I also enjoy how excited you get for Athena to pop up
I love the parallel of Poseidon calling Odysseus and his men the "pack of wolves" and here Antinous and the suitors calling Telemachus "little wolf." Father and son both being referred to as wolves (albeit mockingly) by their respective nemeses, and Telemachus wants so bad to be like his father and here he's being compared to him, even if neither he nor the suitors realize it. Also, Ayron Alexander deserves all the praise for his performance as Antinous, his voice is so perfectly smooth and playful for that part.

Yep, pretty much all of the suitors are their 20s. If they were truly "old" (or at least way older than Telemachus) they would have been drafted into the war 20 years earlier. Especially because most of them are from Ithaca, as well as nearby provinces. Basically high school seniors vs high school freshman is how I see it
No. He. Is. Not. Younger... That stupid idea started because some fans don't know there could be multiple people with the same name, and they thought that Antinous, the boy "lover" of Roman Emperor Hadrian, is the same as this one. And he, quite simply, is not. The Antinous of Ithaca might even be as old as 35, and 15 year olds were not yet drafted to fight in the Trojan War. And it is said that he witnessed Odysseus in his youth, so at the least he's 25. But for Zeus's sake, he's not younger..

5:57 and it’s not even a grown man 😭 telemachus is actually older than antinous (the suitor) because telemachus is 20-21 and antinous is like 18-19 years old
He is not. You're thinking of the boy consort of Roman Emperor Hadrian. This Antinous is a completely different person, and is most likely at least 25, maybe even up to 35.
The staccato reverse wah wah sounds actually represents an ability Jay officially calls "Quick Thought!" hence Athena says "No, I just made your thoughts quick!", when those sounds appear it usually indicates Athena phasing in and out, and quick thought allows Athena to have telepathic conversations with someone within a single second! It's very present in all her other songs but this one gets me so hyped every single time! 🤍
Antinous is probably not much older then Telemachus. Telemachus supposedly around 20-21, since he was already born when Odysseus went to war and they sing it has been 20 years since then. But Odysseus took 600 men to war with him, which is probably most of the man that was old or young enough to fight in a war. So we can assume Antinous was too young at that time, so maybe 10-12 (probably older boys was able to fight). So he probably around 30 something at best. Even if Telemachus sings that there are 108 "old faces", it is doubtful many of them are old. This also explains why are they so shitty as guest. Someone called it "Fatherless" behavior. Since they were the young men left in the island they became the head of their families and nobody teached them to respect other or how not to behave. So they are all very rude as guest, but because of greek hospitability rules they have to be kind to their guest and give them food. And since technically it is Odysseus's house Telemachus and Penelope cannot really deny them to be guests here. Also Telemachus is the prince of Ithica, so he is very sheltered and unmature, that's why he is kind of like a young boy/teen even as in his twenties.
@darkmirror21 True, I just personally prefer Neal's when it comes to designs and overall character - I like how they're all portrayed compared to some other renditions. I do agree though that the context is good, it's just if you were to ask who I'd recommend for god games, I'd always say Neal. Even then, at that part you're talking about, there is some flashes of a younger Odysseus, it's just not fleshed out.
Well, yeah but neal's is I think the furthest from actual canon. I suggest going for either the livestream animatic (though that's unlikely) or another animatic (anniflamma, mumder, gigi's when/if it comes out)
Likely not "only a little older" as his father, Eupeithes is closer in age to Odysseus' father, than to Odysseus. So it would make sense for Antinous to also be older. Also, Jorge mentioned that Antinous is loosely based also on the character of Eurymachus, who's the actual leader of the suitors in the book.
