64 Corvette Stingray Backroads Hard Run

  • Just a little shakedown run after a complete mechanical rebuild with a custom frame, C-4 suspension, 5spd, and tunnel rammed 355ci. Video was shot with lousy coil-overs that were a bit weak, and both half-shaft outside u-joints eating themselves leaving a bit of play in the rear - moved one way on accel, the other on decel... but still a fun ride.

    It's on it's second life. I rebuilt the entire car, except for the dash, after totaling it....which occurred after I put over 90,000 miles on it. So I treat it exactly the way it was built to be treated... :)

    My dad just passed and now its time for his 64 Corvette he bought when he got back from Vietnam gets to run like that. That is how he drove it always, its a coop and I would bump my head on the back window when he would slam it. My oh my how much fun we had! Love the video, that is how they want to run!

  • @motorgearhead
    @motorgearhead Год назад +3

    Wow! fun ride! I'd say you need more tire or softer compound unless it was a cool day (under 65 F). It's traction appears be similar to a 500 WHP car. I had a vortech V3 si equipped C5 and my current C6 Z06 have similar traction impairments under 65 degrees. Both cars ran 325's in the rear. I'm running 4S's on the Z. They do very well for a 300 wear rated tire. Better than the 200 rated Nitto's I had on my C5. Good to see it being driven & enjoyed!!

    Awesome car man. One of my favorite corvette vids, and I've seen a few of them. Got my first vette last summer, 04 z06, and I too love hittin the backroads. The C2 is, in my opinion, about the baddest looking car ever made, and yours is bad ass. Look forward to seeing it with some fresh pain on it. Little cage work and driver restraints might order judging from your driving style... just sayin. Stay safe.

    • @wilsonbeckett9487

      65 Vette it's just a little 355ci ex-ZZ4 crate motor - now with AFR heads, tunnel ram, and healthy hyd roller. Get that LS to 500hp or more at the crank, and you'll have a blast 👍

      Wilson Beckett Your vette must be a freakin` Beast dude! Love your Vids. I restored my 69 vette targa over the past 2 years..... shes finaly done with a 383 stroker in it. It made 430hp to the rear wheels on the dyno and shes pretty Quick but yours seems to be a Little more than 500hp right?

    • @wilsonbeckett9487
      @wilsonbeckett9487  7 лет назад

      NEIN !! It's about 500hp - at 2,900 lbs as is, that's all ya need in one of these to have a blast - kept it small block for weight and budget.

    • @wilsonbeckett9487
      @wilsonbeckett9487  3 года назад +2

      Afr 195 heads and a custom comp cam 230/236 and around 540/560 lift, short travel hyd lifters and rev kit springs on top of the lifters. Spun to 7,000 fairly well, but I usually kept it below 6,500. After 10 years, Finally burnt a piston on a high speed run in the 160’s - cold winter air, not enough fuel - New dart block 402 is now ready with the same heads and more cam. Videos coming

      Brings back great memories of fetting rudes in my brithers buddies 67 427 big block convertible vette. He drove it just like this, and still does till this day ! Yes its worth a bizillion dollars now, but they are meant to be pushed and reward those who know how to really drive them as such.
      I drive my 2017 Z-51 Stingray in this manner also. Owned it for 3 years now and on my third set of Michelin Pilots already , Ouch$$ but if youre gonna play youre gonna pay !!

    what kind of carburetor do you have on that make and model

    • @wilsonbeckett9487
      @wilsonbeckett9487  7 лет назад

      Riccardo Depaoli , it's two small Holley 450's on a Wieind tunnel ram. The carbs come with secondary metering plates instead of jets, so I added a kit that enables the use of jets, and changed over to 50cc accelerator pumps - those changes plus lots of initial timing in the distributor, eliminate the stumbles must often associated with a tunnel ram setup on the street.

Great car great driving but you definitely took some risks that I would not be willing to take. So now I ask are you and the car both still alive and how many tickets/trips to jail/impound lot have you had to make because of this car???

      I get pulled over once or twice a year between this and my daily driver '06 mustang conv, but never more than 20mph over - I'm pretty careful and always have my Valentine One. I've been driving this car for 15 years and about 120,000 miles, so we are pretty used to each other - the risks always look worse on camera than for real :)

    • @blackmajik5602
      @blackmajik5602 9 лет назад

      Yea I can understand that sometimes video's make things like hill climbs not look very steep when in reality they are very steep. Having that many miles and seat time in a car definitely makes a difference in confidence levels. I would love to get me a camera mounted up in my Z and get some video's uploaded. I would still go for a ride along ... hell we only live once and no feeling I have experienced can reproduce the rush from a good road run. Have fun brother

      Only when in the hands of someone who can drive - and you couldn't drive it far from home because it didn't have a top, lol. My best friend has one, but he is limited to how often he can actually DRIVE it, cause he's F'd if it rains. One was a true production car, with 90,000 some made from 63-67, while the other consisted of less than 500?
