Actually, this one is the last model of Trabant which had a VW Polo engine. It wasn’t that bad especially when compared to earlier 2 stroke models that didn’t even get to 100.
@@masterkamen371 they did actually have a top speed of 120kph ,but only if it was driven properly in the break in period (first 4000 kilometers?) ,If you didn't break it in properly the engine would've become very unreliable and inefficient
I think the Trabant 1.1 owners must feel a bit snobbish because their car was probably a bit advanced with that 1.1ltr VW polo engine and some more features and mechanical and cosmetic changes compared to older 2 stroke Trabant. This must have felt much quicker with 41hp because the older 2 stroke versions produced around 20 or 30hp in their lifetime with sub 600cc twin cylinder engine. And most importantly this Trabant 1.1 is a rare car to get your hands on literally because they only sold from 1990 to 1991. This must be pretty reliable compared to older ones for sure.
The VW 1.1ltr is good for up to 55PS, so potentially it could be tuned up to VW's own specs. That would make the Trabant even more entertaining. I was impressed to see the LED bar displays for the fuel tank and what appears to be either the temperature gauge or rev counter.
@@smhorse Well in Trabant they must have used a carburettor setup which only produced 41hp and then later on with multiple upgrades to that engine VW must have bumped it upto 55ps with MPFI I guess . See VW basically dumped the old tech to Trabant's manufacturers. It was " hand me down " literally from VW 😂. But vastly modern reliable on Trabant in 1990.
It must be weird that you must allways press pedal to the metal every time you start from a red light...all this just to keep up with the slowest new cars on the road thats pressing half the way lol

it looks like a hard drivable car , the clutch is at the end of its life , however I would like to drive one
