Why do my client's eyes burn in the shower? Is the lash adhesive reactivating?

- If you've been doing lashes for a while, you most certainly have gotten that call from a client asking why do their eyes burn when they're in the shower? For a long time, we have seen in Facebook Groups and other places people share that the glue is being reactivated by the water and is irritating the client's eyes.
This is not what is happening. Once lash glue cures it's inert and if you study how cyanoacrylates work, you'll find out that the glue is actually waterproof.
Check out our short video where we break down why your client's eyes are actually burning.
I’m LOVING these videos I can’t find answers like this anywhere and don’t know what to search to find this research I really hope you keep these type of videos going I have seen you guys haven’t posted them in a while!!!
Yeah, we stopped due to our workload being just too much. If you like this, you should listen to our podcast as we deal with everything under the sun. We try to release 1-2 episodes a week. We hope to get back to RUclips next year but not for now. :(
I wish this were the case for me. My eyes get incredibly dry and bloodshot every time I wear extensions. Not just for a few days, but for as long as they stay in. A couple of blinks, and my tears evaporate causing awful stinging. I double wash my lashes with opthalmic solutions, and even after the second wash, when they are really clean but still wet, my eyes will burn regardless. This goes away when my eyelashes are removed. I'm sad because I love my lashes so much. 😢
I think this makes sense. I just started doing eyelash extensions and ever since anytime my eyes water they burn. This didn’t happen before but it makes sense that it’s debris. I clean them every night but I’m also scared when it comes to washing my face so I haven’t been going as hard. My lash tech is great, but I’m not sure I can handle it
If the lash stylist doesn't have good bonds, cleaning lashes and washing your face can make the lashes pop off. The key is to have strong bonds with the right technique...then you can clean them with no issue and your eyes won't burn anymore. Thanks for your comment.
I’ve gotten this question every so often and I never knew the true answer, you’re right..all I could find online was the glue vapours! Thanks!
You're so welcome...thanks for watching!!!
I’m facing this issue right now, I haven’t been getting my face wet because I got micro blading and eyelashes done at the same time. In the past I would sometimes get stinging eyes the first time I showered after getting lashes done but now I’m getting pain every day. I still am not supposed to wet my face because of the eyebrows and I don’t want to wait for a specialized eyelash cleanser to arrive in the mail. Are there any home solutions to help with the pain faster?? What can they be cleaned with? It seems like wetting and washing my eyes is not making it better / it still hurts SO MUCH! Thanks!
I'm so sorry about the discomfort you are feeling. A quick home solution is to use baby shampoo. Some lash artists will say not to use baby shampoo but it's quite safe. Our medical consultant Dr. Warren Stout said it's fine to use to clean your lashes. If you are rinsing your lashes and still have a burning sensation in the shower that probably means you are not washing them well enough. You need to clean a little deeper. Just splashing water on them won't be enough. wish you the best
Sorry but I don't understand
My eyes have never stung in the shower before or when I cry.
And since I had my eye laah extensions done tmy eyes sting in the shower and when I cry so it is definitely something in the eyelashes or glue that is making this happen
Would love to know if I need to find another place to have them done
You do not need to find a new place...the adhesive cures and cannot by any means be reactivated by water or tears. Cyanoacrylates have been around since the 1950s (this is the main component in lash glue) and it's very well understood to be waterproof...and oil proof too. When people get lashes, they tend to be more gentle with them and not clean them as well. Because people don't clean as well as they should, salts and other debris build-up...when you take a shower or cry, that dislodges the buildup and irritate the eyes. Make sure you get a lash cleanser and use it 1-2 times a day. :)
@Kenzi Dawn I researched about glues and there are definitely a variety of glues out there. Some are less toxic but they apparently don't hold the lashes on ad long
I'd love to find a salon that specialises in safe eyelash extensions because I loved them when I had them. Have a great day and thankyou for your input 😊
Agree 💯 same with me, never had burning eyes before until 2 months ago since I started having extensions.
@@anneis8319agree its the glue. Never had burning to stinging sensations before. Misty shower, tears, contact with water, all make my eyes burn and tear.
