    It's wonderful how you two have arrived at the exact same conclusions I have in my search to connect the biosciences to depth psychology. Brilliant! I love how you equate the genome with the Self--I have been saying this for years, and it's such a joy to hear brilliant analysts such as yourself to be saying the same thing. Fantastic!

    "To tackle something at cognition alone is a huge mistake."

At this point 12:55 in the video, I was so much touched that I felt a very strong emotion coming out and unlike other times where I am focused on the chatter of my mind, this time I let it come through and tears started dropping. So, to create a counter-complex essentially, isn’t to reframe your thinking or psychology in a CBT manner of approach, but it’s too use other forms of modalities in the BioPsychoSocial stack. As soon as you look at a layer of the BioPsychoSocial model, its waveform collapses. The waveform collapses according to what layer of analysis you look at (bio, psycho, or social) and once it does you begin to have a narrower approach a frame to look at. It’s better to move in between collapsed wave forms, in different layers of analysis. It’s to help you see what’s going on in the different layers of life that is operating outside of your conscious will intentionality.

      Many thanks Tuwheratia, that's exactly it, and its so much better as a meta-framework, than being Psycho-Reductive. As 'relating' is the key, that has to be the 'go-to' dynamic, as relating describes interaction within and between levels, and as you say, within and between wave-forms. I realized that my mother did not confirm me as different nor separate ... bummer. Your theoretical framework helped me a lot in locating this as a root cause for some major issues I have been blundering with for years now.
    I was just thinking how could I even begin to grind with this multi-faceted monster of a complex. What sort of Mecha-Godzilla should I build to tackle this one? It was quite convenient to find this video after long day of reading, writing and deep diving around memory nodes. What Steve says around 20:00 is a key for me here. I know you say that you can't integrate the shadow self (referring to the alter ego) but this talk of creating a counter complex mirrors my experience recently where I have been finding myself calling upon and integrating some of the skills and perspectives of my alter ego.
    I don't know how "creating a counter complex" would differ from calling up another aspect of your psychology to balance your strengths and weakness, if you had distinctions it'd be interesting to know.
    What you say about them having different physiological signatures definitely has mirrored my experience. My main ego seems to have a sensation that feels like a slight anxiety from my head to upper heart where as my alter ego has the feeling of strength and glow around my solar plexus.
    Would the alter ego in a sense serve as the ultimate counter complex if related to healthily?
    My alter ego has been incredible at grounding me and actualising my plans into the real world.
    Thanks guys!

    I heard that going beneath/below cognition is more effective for an intervention (and I understand why), but I didn't hear (or I somehow missed) exactly how to create a counter-complex. How does one do that?
    Also, in a later video, it is noted that biologists are starting to understanding the person/environment "dyad" as a continuum rather than a strict distinction [an insight already available from Alan Watts and others like him for a long time, which he of course is channelling from Vedic/etc traditions], but my question then would be: why stop at the genome? All of the levels below the genome are clearly no less implicated, all the more-so when the biology/environment "dyad" is already a continuum.
    Thanks for the video. :) But, to repeat, does one create a counter-complex.

    • @JungToLiveBy
      @JungToLiveBy  2 года назад +3

      It doesn’t ‘stop’ at the Genome, if you look at the waveform video you’ll see the Biopsychosocial stack. It’s simply that in an integrated therapy meta model that has to include working with medics, then the genome is the most appropriate level to begin to work with the ‘bio logos.’ If you watch our video in conversation with Rupert Sheldrake, you’ll appreciate another dimension to this work. My own life-long background in Eastern traditions is more than taken into consideration too. Context is everything. Kindest Regards, Steve🙏

    I have a question related to instincts, if you have the time in your busy schedules :).
    When studying Panksepp & Mark Solms I notice there is
    mention of certain emotional systems being closely linked vs others.
    I feel having a cognitive understanding of grouping certain emotional systems into “sets” and
    understanding that certain emotional systems are closely linked and at times, can be triggered together would help one become more adaptive.
    (i.e enabling one to better adapt emotional systems in a more homeostatic manner).
    So I’m wondering are certain emotional systems and instincts more likely to be triggered together simultaneously together
    when compared with other groups of emotional systems?
    I apologize if my understanding is incorrect.
    Best Wishes!
    -Dylan

    • @JungToLiveBy
      @JungToLiveBy  Год назад

      Hi again @dylancurriedigitalacademy, many thanks for your question. The next step to integrate and even transcend, the otherwise collapsed model of 7-Basic Emotional Systems, is to understand them as superpositioned with other informational states, and representations. An issue within Affective Neuroscience and Neuropsychoanalysis, has been a debate over whether there are more, or even less, such emotional systems, and if the categories they fall into, are 'real' or simply descriptive, as in being an artifact of observation, and the convenience of explanation. They are, it seems, real, when considered at their own level of analysis, description and explanation. However, this is still a collapse of their much wider context. For simple illustrations, tconsider that they all involve gene expression, extrinsic environmental triggers as well as internally triggered states, multi-systemic psychological regulation, and most neglected of all for understanding: nested 'fields' of information, regulation and exchange. Pankseppian instincts can 'fire' autonomously, with respect to our conscious will and intention, and of course they frequently do. However, adaptation, and in particular optimialization for survival and and routine life-span developmental function, have a complexity beyond Pankseppian systems, as they are usually considered. Its conventional to regard this complexity being the respoinsibility of our evolved reflexive Ego-consciousness, to deal with. However, there are a firther class of instincts: 'Meta-Instincts' which are genomically anticipated 'whole-context' scenarios, that have evolved to give such context (and meaning) to Pankseppian drives, which, without such contexts to operate within, can fire randomly, causing neurotic conflict, illness and worse. This is a serious issue, as
      psycho-reductive and bio-medically reductive, clinical psychology and psychiatry (respectively) tend to focus on the downstream manifestation of this, which they describe as 'neuroticism' (as a personality trait) or as psychoticism; in such cases where Meta-Instincts themselves function autonomously (as in psychosis). Neuroticisim is not a 'personality trait' (causal) so much as an emergent poroperty of the dis-regulation of the human system as a whole. The proper origin of this is best described as a field-phenomenon, that includes the superpositioning of information in several different simultaneous states. One of these, will be in one or more of the Pankseppian 7-Basic emotional systems. The homeostatic function, of a human being, requires context to be approriately registered, at the field level. This involves all systems within the dynamic informational field communicating properly. Understand Superpositioning, and you understand the psyche. Conjecture 'neuroticism' to be a causal personality trait, and you don't. That, is an absured and clumsy psycho-reductionism. Superpositionin gis the key. Kindest Regards, Steve.

      This really clarified things and has possibly helped open up new paths on my
      learning journey so thank you from the bottom of my heart Steve. :)
      I feel you are suggesting its best to become
      less introspective and focus less on the cognitive element of understanding(psycho-reductive)
      when it comes to emotional systems.
      Instead open self up to the emotional systems and their various forms(as well as meta-instincts and other information)
      across ALL the various bio-psycho-social levels
      to better maintain homeostasis with others and environment,
      as well as homeostasis with one’s own biology.
      Put simply is it best I try to observe the 1 or more triggered emotional systems
      (and their relative meta-instincts as well as other information) as they fluctuate in degree, yet also all simultaneously co-exist(superpositioned)
      across all the bio-psycho-social levels in my day-to-day in order
      to achieve homeostasis as a human system?

Or can work be done before knowing knowing exactly what the nature of the negative complex is in setting up a “positive complex”?

    • @JungToLiveBy
      @JungToLiveBy  2 года назад +13

      Hi Rooster Burns, many thanks. No, the essentials are internal communication, by taking the position of being receptive to a non-Ego 'signal' from within, that seeks to be understood. People generally, are not encouraged to experience things that aren't 'cognitions'. When they do, they're taken as being someone 'irrational' - as in 'Affect' (emotion, is just a 'state' and not a form of consciousness (and it is a form of consciousness). The whole organism, including the 'psyche' is a self-regulating system. To be optimised, it needs to communicate within itself. This has to be on 'natural' terms. So, being interested in 'signals' from within, and being open to the instinctive desire to self-regulate, is the very best starting point. Kindest Regards, Steve.🙏
