  • Medicare For All exists in America right now....almost. But it's only in one small town. For our Class Room series, we went to Libby, Montana to learn about how this works, and to ask why we can't have universal health care in the rest of the country.

    It is infuriating that you interviewed Max Baucus. He was the head of a Senate committee when the possible forms of Obamacare were being debated. Physicians for national health plan and national nurses united had both lobbying hard to have Medicare for all considered. The doctors and nurses were making progress with the members of Congress who are on the healthcare committee. Max baucus ran a committee that had nothing to do with healthcare or human services. I think it was some sort of Tax committee. Despite that he called for hearings on healthcare way before anything was organized. Nursing and medical professors from Harvard University wanted to testify in favor of Medicare for all. Max baucus would not allow any of the medical or nursing professors to testify.
    So we ended up getting a for-profit healthcare plan that didn’t cover everyone in the country. And Max Bacchus is the primary person responsible for that. The healthcare industry paid Max a lot of money to get him to run interference for them. Tens of thousands of people have died because of maxes actions. I would not give him any respect at all. And if I were going to report on Medicare for an interview Max box, I would strongly recommend confronting him about blocking Medicare for all back in 2007 & 2008
    In their attempt to be heard the doctors and nursing professors stood up to speak in max Balqis is hearing even though it was illegal. They were arrested and hauled away. Medical professors from Harvard and nursing professors from Harvard were arrested for trying to talk about Medicare for all. They were arrested because Max Barchus wanted for-profit healthcare to keep killing people in this country because for-profit healthcare had given him a lot of money. He’s an evil greedy selfish man.

      Respectfully disagree. The way I heard it, there were several proposed plans, including one bi-partisan plan put together after weeks of committee deliberations. Obama scrapped them all, in favor of his plan--modeled after Swedish health care. It was a plan that used private insurance, as well as government funding. In Sweden it insures everyone is covered, but it IS expensive. It also doesn't cut out private medicine and insurance. It's de-centralized, so more like private health care we're used to.
      I doubt ANY plan would have passed, if it cut profits for the medical industry. Medicare for all, especially if it allows the government to negotiate better prices, will limit profits across the board. Making the government manage the biggest HMO would be a major undertaking. Obama was taking us to health care for all, in baby steps. Unless/until the government is willing to tackle the profits in the industry, we're never going to get affordable health care.

    • @lukerlunker
      @lukerlunker 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@cariwaldick4898 THat is incorrect. Max had a supermajority in the Senate. Democrats if they unified at all could have passed anything they wanted. Here in Australia we have universal health cover for all, its paid for by a tax levy that everybody pays in the knowledge that everyone is going to need health care at some time in their life. This system that we have here, that guarantees health care for all actually costs less per capita than the system currently in use in the USA. Australia also heavily subsidises drugs that people need so no-one has to go into terrible debt to fund treatments.
    Americans don't seem to have a problem with government funding stuff like policing and fire fighting and postal services, so why do they have such a problem with health care ?

This isn't a fight against the right, it's a fight against the narrative that there just isn't enough of OUR OWN MONEY to help ourselves.
    Maybe something that can be addressee in another video, but I've never heard anyone talk about what the cost differential is for businesses between having to provide insurance vs. a tax for single payer. We know insurance costs allot for individuals, so it would seem obvious that a company that is providing for multiple individual insurance plans must be spending a lot more than they have to. It's my belief that medicare for all would be cheaper for everyone. Maybe they just like holding that power over the rest of us?

Every time there is a corporate created catastrophe the company pays out the people at the top, pays the share holders; then does the least they can get away with before filling bankruptcy and leaving the aftermath for the government to clean up. Once again privatizing profits and socializing loses. But if we don't tax the corporations highly, we will have to rely on the people to fix what corporate greed destroyed.

Medicare for all would just be so much more efficient, fiscally responsible, and people would receive better care as a result.

    The American healthcare system doesn't exist. It isn't a system. It's private property, no different from McDonald's. The only difference is that people don't die from lack of McDonald's in their diet. People don't go bankrupt and lose their homes and life savings because they can't afford to buy a Big Mac. Healthcare profits - via hospitals, pharmaceuticals, and insurance, are 20% of GDP in America. That means that 1 out of every $5 spent in the US is for healthcare. That's a lot of revenue, all going to shareholders. When politicians say we can't afford public healthcare in the US, they are right, since American politicians represent the owners of the industries involved. Those owners won't give up free money, which is what healthcare spending is. Everyone who ever lived and who will ever live needs healthcare. It's 100% certain. Who would give that free money up? We, the people, are peasants. The US is not a free country. It's a strict, laissez faire economic system just like England was in the 19th century.
