Barrel shrinkage started before MK23. It started somewhere when optics ready version came out. There were really good profesional shooters who does not like twist effect heavy bull barrel, so GP to help them selfs with optics and with profi shooters reduced weight of barrel. It also saves some money for them. Btw they removed one locking lug in MK23. I am glad that I bought one of last bul barrel Match Xcalibur.

i like the mk12 hammer barrel and roller mechanism better but the mk23 slide definitely looks better imo. Optic ready is the real selling point for me. But definitely not rushing out to find it. That x-calibur co match on the other hand is something that i feel the need to have.
Appreciate the excellent video, im another long time fan. Excited about operational mods and the better grip surface. And thank you for tip on sale going to purchase a P45
Just looked at the extensive list of Grand Power pistols, and I saw none that are optics ready with the exception of the Mk23 X-Calibur. It looks we are still missing the Holy Grail of optics ready SA/DA pistols without venturing into 2011 territory. Looks like Merlin’s bag of tricks is not cutting it (literally). Better call in Morgana!
@@GBGuns Went to the Grand Power web site and I’m still not sure what the “CO” designation stands for, but within the product description it states that all MK23 pistols are optics ready. Thanks for your help.

i believe one of the reasons for the shorter barrel is that the old one had some issues with the IPSC production barrel length measurement system that made it technically a couple mm too long or something which is pretty important considering the Xcal was designed specifically for that division would be great if there was an aftermarket for the GP's though, a competition spring kit could turn that already solid trigger into something really nice i bet (going by beretta 92 and cz75 spring kit experience where they can do an immense change for very little money) the ~3? lbs single action is already quite good but since production lets you run 3.5lbs striker triggers that don't have a heavy double action to start with and DA/SA's only have a DA pull weight limit it imo makes more sense to have a ~2lbs single action pull which my 92XP is roughly at with just the spring kit (though it would have been better if beretta hadn't made the odd decision to keep the firing pin block unlike CZ with the shadow 2 and afaik the X-cal doesn't have a firing pin block either) in any case, if they ever announce an all-steel X-cal im getting one as soon as i can, otherwise i'll probably get a match CO one in 3 years with the FDE frame if that's an option (two tone just hits different than generic all-black matte does)
Yeah if they made an all steel one I would be interested to. I'm extremely happy with my mk12 with bull barrel its very accurate. When I saw mk23 doesn't have one, I'm not interested to buy it anymore. You are absolutely right, the only downside is the aftermarket, but the gun is also just great right of the box actually not so much to fix. Btw i compete in ipsc mk12 bull barrel is approved as long its not longer 127mm. Also see mk23 slide is heavier.. I have my slide cut and mount an SRO runs with no problems
I had the Mark 12 and I loved it. My question is you didn’t mention anything about what type of optics cut it is I assume you’re not much of an optics person so you didn’t feel it was important but I would’ve really like to know if it’s a direct mount or a plate or an armoire or what how how is the optic system works?
Great Review, as always. Thx a lot. The manual is the old one, the specs show the Xcalibut as a 5" barrel, but mk23 is 4.8". Is the pin change to rotate the barrel change documented? Need some kind of maintenance? THx in advance!!
Correct, specs are in the articles (pinned comments) as far as maintenance, it's like any firearm: lubricate where there is friction. For these guns that means along the locking lugs and in the cam path as well as rails of course. When I get a higher round count through these I'll be able to find out just how much lube and where.
Hello , Happy Thanksgiving! One observation and question about Mark 23 Grand Power new models . I’am under the impression after looking and studying your recent reviews between Mark 12 Excalibur, Mark 24 Excalibur and the Q100 - Mark 23 , looks like the Q100 Mark 23 is the best shooter between all of this ones , including your favorite , the K100 -M12 and M23. Looks in the shooting test more accurate , smooth and easier to shoot . Will love to hear from you if I’am under the right impression here , thanks a lot in advance .
@faustoramos8840 the Mk23 Q100 really impressed me. I'm not sure how I'd feel about carrying that trigger, but that's a matter of personal choice. On the range it is awesome!
both look nice but i prefer my mk12. shoots like a dream. cut for optics doesn't really matter to me. not enough anyway to run out and get a mk 23. looking forward to the shooting review. i'm sure the mk23 will shoot just as well as the mk12's do. kor
Optics are a bid geal forsome people, not for me though either. I was concerned that some of the changes might ruin what was already a perfect gun in my opinion. As you saw in the side by side shooting comparison I believe they've managed to improve the gun even more!
I literally just ordered a XCalibur from global ordinance last night. I am assuming I should expect a MK23 version not a MK 12 version to arrive (note: I didnt order a match or a CO)
They are both listed independently (different SKUs). If you want a Mk23 cancel that order and order a Mk23 specifically. They're hard to find which is why I linked to it in the article.
@@GBGuns It looks like the Mk23 is only available as the match or CO right now. (I am going to stick with my discounted Mk12 order then hard to pass up on a $600 xcalibur)
I don't blame you for that, and you'll still be impressed. The good news is the magazines are the same for all 9mm 15rd Grand Powers so you're on your way to being like ma and having an entire bin of grab-n-go Grand Power magazines.
Hey Graham, I just had a thought. Do the grand power mags share any interchangeability with other magazine designs? I'm wondering if it'd be possible to perform a follower swap like with the P30/VP9 magazines to increase the capacity to a full 17 rounds.
@@GBGuns Interesting. Just a thought I had, since it seems GP has no desire to move away from that long follower design. I know some people have experimented with cutting them down a bit and managed to get another round or two, but I personally don't want to try that since I don't believe you can buy individual magazine components in the US right now.
I think I've had maybe two or three failures across the dozen or so rotating barrels and thousands of rounds I've shot over the years. They do like to be clean and lubed, but I've taken mine through 1,000 round multi-day courses in the Nevada desert and snow/ice at Thunder Rnach without cleaning them and without issue. Some maintenance required, but they're not rediculous.
She didn't make it for the range day for this or the Mk23 X-Calibur Match CO video, but I'd like to have her try the comparisons I did: Mk12 Vs Mk23 and Match Vs regular X-Calibur.
I believe so. It's a generational update for the entire line. When or if we will see a 10mm in the US is another question, 10mm isn't nearly as popular as the internet makes it sound so companies aren't very motivated to sink capital into making or stocking them.
Most of the Mk12 models (except for the X-Calibur) were available as a decocker but Global Ordnance didn't import any that I know of, so the only decockers are from the Eagle Imports days.
