  • The Stourbridge Branch Line was significantly upgraded between March 6th - 12th. Working with the Inside Out Group, we produced a time-lapse of the whole process.
    This historic development was the first total renewal of the track since 1902. It means that passengers of the Stourbridge Shuttle will have a more enjoyable and comfortable ride for many years to come.

      I agree. I used to live in Dawlish, and often thought it'd make sense to use a PPM / Class 139 type set on the old branch line (now only getting very occasional freight traffic) to restore passenger service between Newton Abbott to Bovey Tracey.

    Glad someone made a video of this once in a lifetime event, tracklaying and reopening seemed a lot quicker than the full Metro equivalent when the line opened from Snow Hill to Priestfield pro rata.

    • @mittfh
      @mittfh 3 года назад +3

      Electrifying the line, while expensive, would also require a replacement of the rolling stock on the line. Currently, it's operated by a Class 139, which uses a small 2.3L LPG engine plus a flywheel and regenerative braking for a service which is already far more efficient than a Class 153.

    • @n1thmusic229
      @n1thmusic229 3 года назад

      @@mittfh I am aware but those trains were cheap to build and they could easily both be put into preservation. They're almost 15 years old and will be over that if electrification work happens soon which isn't old but isn't new either but I think personally that the withdrawal of them could allow for the new electric stock to be driverless
