Good point about the spoken part being at the end! That confused me as a kid. It sounded like we were back at the beginning of the story. But they did intend to have spoken word bits throughout it and that would have helped flesh out the story tremendously. Without the extra story bits the story itself falls very flat. So much potential if they had put more effort into it and fully supported it. I loved this two-parter of one of my favorite albums. So thank you both! Maybe in the future you could do a third part that focuses on Elder merchandise: comics, Julian’s book (which I think you’d both love. It’s 500 pages, but it’s an easy read. Lots of interviews), different versions of the LP, the dvd you can get on eBay (Elder Media Collection), bootleg boxset (Kronicles of the Elder), shirts, other merch. You could ask your viewers to send pics of stuff they have that you might not have. That could be a lot of fun and very enlightening. And it would be awesome if you put out a short film! Maybe you can connect with the folks that were working on a movie of their own and team up:)
True I agree. It would be awesome to connect with those about any potential movie, etc. I admit that I was mystified over that spoken part at the end. I received the same impression and thinking it was right back at the beginning. So much potential with The Elder and now we may never know where the original storyline was going lead. If the spoken parts were scrapped (not used) is it possible they exist in analog or similar format? It would take a sound engineer to replace all the cut dialog and a lot of time, effort, and proper equipment. I think fans would enjoy hearing a "completed" re-issued version of the Elder and pitch it to Kiss fans with added bonus and goodies, like for example, add in a newly designed "order form" and poster, a booklet, maps, storyline... so much possibility with this album and so many avenues to explore. Just my thoughts. 😊
I actually enjoyed Music from the Elder. It was/is for me a very difficult album to find an original pressing of. I had the 8-track tape, but regretted selling it years ago. I also had a factory sealed Music from the Elder 8- track and sold it (regrettably). The only copy of this album that I have still I dubbed from 8-track onto cassette. It's a good album all the way through. Nothing like a flop from what I had read it was years and years ago. Thank you for the Part II of this. I enjoyed it. 😊
Loved your focus on the Lack of Packaging. Really dawned on me that if any KISS needs greater packaging, it's the ELDER. Also dug your comments on a deluxe anniversary edition. The map, the drawings. Good lord, I would love to dive into that box set. (The name you were recalling), The Boy (actor) was Christopher Makepeace (MEATBALLS). Always loved he is actually credited on the back of the album. Imagine getting to hear this? Holy smokes. Great video as always my friend. Take care.
I too got (Music from) The Elder for Christmas '81. I remember playing it and obviously noting its uniqueness in the KISS catalog, but still enjoying it. A big part of the fun of KISS is all the left and right turns. Btw, I've always LOVED its packaging. IMO, those studio shots with the pink background would've ruined the feel of what we got. Like you, I think a boxset of The Elder would be successful by KISS standards. After all, non-KISS fans aren't out there buying their boxsets. The Elder has achieved cult-status in KISS fandom, and I think there's lots of interest out there. Hell yes, like you, I want to hear more of the left out dialogue and whatever sound effects Ezrin created. Unfortunately, Paul & Gene want the whole period forgotten. Great and interesting discussion.
This has been such a beautiful two-part tribute to such an underloved album. I completely get that it's not for everyone, but I love having a diverse selection as a KISS fan. The album rules in it's own way, just like their others.
Really enjoyed part 2! This is easily in my top 5 KISS records. I liked hearing everyone's comments and thanks for reading mine! Xander, make the movie my friend! Daphne's reaction was great!
The song order was switched up at the last minute. The first pressings do have the intended order on the back cover and that was changed to reflect songs out of order with later pressings (in the 80's) Also, some early copies did have a white lyric sheet insert and are very hard to find.
I truly enjoyed part 2. It would have been excellent to add in the extras as everyone says that the original Elder album should have had with storyline, maps, etc. I also wanted to take this opportunity and tell all KISS Army members: Happy official KISS Army day today!!! 🎉🥳👏👏👏 November 21st, 1975 marks the "Official" KISS Army and it's 49th anniversary. A special shout out "thank you" to the heroic, bold efforts of Sargent/ Commander and Chief Bill Starkey (founder), his "unknown" soldiers and fellow letter writers demanding that KISS get airplay: Jay Evans, Bill's younger brother and many others. To all the past, present, and future KISS Army members: "Happy Official KISS Army day!!!"🎉🥳 I'm one of the unofficial unknown KISS Army members since I never could obtain an original 70's Kiss Army kit for myself and sadly can't afford one. They're expensive! My years of "unknown soldier" service: 1989-present day. 😊
I'm pretty sure that the people behind Revolutionary Comics had a comic book adaptation of the Elder published in a special KISS issue of Metal Edge at around the time of the Reunion. Worth tracking down if you can find it .
Good luck with that. We were over-saturated with KISS merch during the reunion - so much so that it was impossible to keep up and we might have missed a few things along the way.
I remember reading there was going to be a part 2 to the Elder I was looking forward to it When Creatures came out I was surprised it wasn’t an Elder part 2
This album went from “Worst”, “Overhated”(that now applies to Crazy Nights to me.), to the “Polarizing” one. This album really did require a 2 Part review. 🤣 and I Love your guys’ honesty towards it. Looking forward to the next review
I really loved these 2 Elder episodes. I have 2 copies of it on vinyl with both track orders and also have it on cassette. There is a weird energy around this when I listen to it. When I discovered it it almost felt like I was dreaming about a Kiss album that doesn’t exist but it does for better or for worse and I feel Kisstory would not be as interesting without it.
Thanks for The Elder double episode! I've always liked the album, although I can see why it's polarizing among KISS fans. I agree that it still might make a good animated movie, or maybe even a video game.
one really has to be well prepared musically to understand this record. you have to listen to Gabrieli (16 century composer) to understand where the music is coming from. also, you have to be familiar with mideaval chorale music and folk stuff. The Elders is one of the most underrated rock albums of all times . The only tracks that does not seem to belong on the record is Escape from the Island. My favourite song is Under The Rose.
About the grand cringe of "I", you can easily imagine an inane dance number among the Elder folk during the bass section before the final (thank Goodness) verse. That's one reason I can't listen to it without embarrassment.

I really hope the rest of the dialogue/spoken word gets released someday somehow 💯 Great idea about mentioning the Elder merch!

I just came across some interesting Elder stuff... stay tuned!!

GREAT EPISODE!! Can't wait for you to hear our performance of The Elder from KISS Cancer Goodbye!
Hurry Joey, I'm dying!! 🤘 🤘

You're very welcome!! 🙏 It is truly an awesome project. All involved did a great job 👏

Happy KISS Army Day!! 🤘 We are proud to be Hoosiers today!! 49 years of the KISS Army... WOW!! Thanks for watching and commenting!
@kissarmythings yep, yep absolutely!!! I just wanted to shout it out loud on November 21st in case nobody in the Kiss Army knew the official day. ❤🎉
PS Love the podcast 😊

Yes! Totally forgot about this. It was the Official KISS Psycho Circus Tour Magazine. Thank you for leaving this comment, made me dig this out again.
Plus the Dynamite 10-issue comic. You can get it now in a trade paperback format.
Good luck with that. We were over-saturated with KISS merch during the reunion - so much so that it was impossible to keep up and we might have missed a few things along the way.

Love your guys’ honesty towards it.
Looking forward to the next review
Here in Norway and Sweden it comes with poster
The dialogue at the end did sound like it was after a victory, such as in Star Wars where Princess Leia bestowed Han, Luke and Chewbacca with medals.
I really loved these 2 Elder episodes. I have 2 copies of it on vinyl with both track orders and also have it on cassette. There is a weird energy around this when I listen to it. It's a testament to paul and gene working their asses off and not allowing this album to be the final nail in their koffin ....
Their work ethic is certainly admirable!! 🤘🤘
I have a Kiss comic book with a part about The Elder I believe. I will send pics to the facebook page if I can find it.
Thanks for The Elder double episode! I've always liked the album, although I can see why it's polarizing among KISS fans. I agree that it still might make a good animated movie, or maybe even a video game.
The Elder video game would be so cool!! 👏
Also, there is a far more recent adaptation from Dynamite entertainment from around 2017. That one is more readily available.
I totally forgot about that one! Thanks for mentioning it \m/
🤘🤪🤘
Yack yack yack
You'd said something about a band covering the Elder and putting it on CD. What's the title of it again?
It's called "Ancient Door: A Tribute to (Music From) The Elder by Christopher Börjars 🤘
@@kissarmythings Thank you.

It is a very misunderstood album, that's for sure. "Only You" is another gem.
About the grand cringe of "I", you can easily imagine an inane dance number among the Elder folk during the bass section before the final (thank Goodness) verse. That's one reason I can't listen to it without embarrassment.
Pretty sure there was an Elder Kiss comic book.
Whoops! You're right... oh boy I can't wait to go down this rabbit hole 👏
Music from the Elder is Music for Beta's. Gene & Paul are 2 blame .For They're the bottom Line..They're Kiss
😂😂😂😂😂
