It's called balance of power politics. A united Russo-German trading bloc in Russia's energy combined with German industrial capacity would have been a threat. Putin gives 4 hour BRIC lectures on Russian economic initiatives, imagine any of our leaders being able to do the same. The West get's it's proxy war and doesn't even have to bury it's own dead.

Americans love to loudly and confidently assert that “the US” is in charge of western imperialist strategy without providing any concrete rationale or evidence to support that opinion. I’m beginning to think that it’s a manifestation of their nationalism/ego. Either way it’s a naive and historically incorrect position in my opinion, considering that the US was created by Europe on a couple of hundred years ago 😂

As a Ukrainian american, a person who knows the entire history of the conflict and regularly communicates with friends in both Ukraine and Russia, I absolutely disagree with this point of view. Without going into details, I just would like to remind so called experts in Eastern European politics that the NATO and UN memberships were included in the Ukrainian Constitution a long time ago. The US Government, in my opinion, can be blamed for many things, including slow and not sufficient support of Ukraine in this war. But it cannot be accused of forcing Ukraine into NATO because it was decision of Ukrainian people. Actually, as a results of this was, which obviously was started by Putin, Russia has now two more NATO countries at its border, Finland and Sweden. Is this the US Government fault as well?
I understand your point but in geopolitics there is lines called soft belly where a superpower shouldnt 31:42 cross it doesn’t matter if Ukranian voters choose to join nato it’s just impossible because that will cause a reaction to the other side, Cuba missiles crisis is the opposite way that is happening in Ukraine the only difference is that both countries(USA and URSS) reached for agreement and there wasnt necessary to go at war unfortunately in Ukraine who opposed to the peace in Ukraine were the British by Boris m Johnson(one the worst corrupt and unmoral politicians in UK thanks to him many Ukrainian are dead and the politicians crisis that is happening in uk is thanks to him).

That's a random example of a skewed comment. If Mexico desired to align with Russia or China and allow either one of them to establish nuclear weapons stations along the Rio Grande, would the U.S. be okay with that? Mexico has a right to choose their own alliances right? This is of course true, but not at expense of another country’s national security. NATO is a threat to Russia.

Yes, some people in Eastern Europe hate Russia. It does not mean that Russia has imperialistic ambitions. And before you say that Russia historically was involved in wars with its neighbors, may I remind you that both France and Germany just to cite a few from recent history wanted to conquer the whole of Europe and Russia, not only once but many times. I don't hear people today bring this up to argue that we have to fear Germany or France, or that this whole Ukraine situation is a plot from France, who have imperialistic ambitions to conquer Russia because we know from history that this is what they want to do.
Russia is not modern Germany or France. Since 1991, Russia is responsible for multiple armed conflicts with its neighbors. Tens of thousands people died in this conflicts. And many more will die in Ukraine. Because of Putin’s politics and ambitions.
