A little tip for improver bricklayers when lack of Experience can cause an Awkward decision For daily content follow me on Instagram @the_traditional_bricklayer
Best advice to young brickies , respect is earned and not given. Clean tools, accurate work an honesty are a good place to start. Fantastic channel mate. Hats off to you
I’m not a bricky or a even trainee but I’d just like to say good on you for sharing your knowledge with the young ones. You deserve appreciation and success. Cheers Bob
Shout out from Dublin pal, been watching u 4 a while, first time commenting, have 2 endorse the diary tip, 33 years on the trowel with Sisk, doesn't matter if we're on production or time, we write everything down, counts, holdups, everything!!!!!!!!!! Best advice ever
Another awesome video. I watch alot of bricklaying channels it is so nice to see what I call "a proper bricklayer" someone who takes his time and does great work. My original bricky did his apprenticeship at London brick he was just like you full of great knowledge and experience which he loved to pass on. Please keep it up you're a diamond.
Wish I was young again and went into brick laying sooner would like to have meet a bricklayer like him who's prepared to show you the ropes ..really enjoy your videos 👍👍
Great video pal.I’ve been running jobs for years and, to be honest I respect any bricklayer that comes up to me and says that the brickwork that they are coming off is out.Remember this you aint grassing up another bricky. You are making the forman aware of a potential problem.Keep the videos coming 👍
Only just found your page. Really good content and refreshing to see someone willing to pass on the knowledge to the youngsters. We all start at the bottom. Been on the trowel for 10 yrs so still learning every day. Used to be a chef. Any more videos on your house build. Can only find 1
I got a little rubber stamp from vistaprint with my name on it. I push it into the bed joint where my work starts. It's unobtrusive, yet good practice.
Good tip but in reality it shouldn't be that way, a good tradesman should never lower their standards but of course, the odd shyster slips through the net! Just be plumb and level in your own lift and if the work below is a bit piss-poor!
Back in the day if you started a corner, it was yours , some lads plumb off the top brick, I try to fade it , if I can, but always make note of where I started, just in case. good vid 👍
Only experience can learn u this ,its not all laying bricks alot is good work ethic turning up on time doing work to a good standard ,u forgot to put your initials on your own work as its of a good standard , fair play to ya hitting the cobbles for calling out shit work 🤣👍
Always! Always! Always! Let the foreman make that call. Then it's out in the open and you only did what you were told. If you start on top of junk that's not right then how do you know that your right. (Never let someone talk you into something you can't do.) 🙂
Something about this guy reminds of rocky Balboa in the rocky films.must be his bashed boat race 🤣.Cockney bricklaying version of Rocky ...yo Adriannnnnn🤣👍
Nice video Dean, had a call from an old mate today who’s cheesed off with site work and we might be putting a gang together later this year 🧱🤞 Keep up the vids ol butt.....😉👌
any bricklayers coming up need to learn how to get over work that is nt bang on you will come across it alot, learn how to make work look bang on even if its not bang on plumb👍
Never a true word said .it can be the plumbest wall in the world but if the bonds all over the place and jointing s crap bricks tipping etc .if 8t looks right it is right
The best piece of advice I can give any improver is to stay off off the houses. You need time to perfect your craft and the houses are just rush, rush, rush and being pushed by the alcoholic foreman. Go on sites building flats, commercial or conversion work. Don't ask me why by the standard always seems to be better and you are given time. I am 56 now, I have never ever been the fastest trowel on the site but I have been the neatest on some and I get respect for that.
To add to this, commercial brickwork has the backing of a ton of money so they can afford to have the delays and the patience to work for quality, as well hire really good craftsmen. Residential work is a lot about production in order to make money, also most homeowner won’t be able to tell when something is off. Few experienced guys recommend that apprentices get a year of residential work just to see what it is like, and a feel for the pace but then to always go back to commercial work.
I have to say I enjoy all the bricky channels but your channel is all about quality and pride in your work, not quantity, old school values which are all too scarce these days. After all ones work is a reflection of ones self.😅😅 did I just say that I'm getting very philosophical in my old age.
Great tips and I know you could go on forever 👍The first tip keep them tools clean is a must .I use wire wool and a splash of WD and why not👏You are making bricklaying interesting for all different groups .....but you know that 😂👍👌🎥👏🥇🧱
I did my apprenticeship over ten years ago after my apprenticeship finished I got made self employed with no holiday pay or rights and they sacked me for having time off and I done stuff I shouldn't of done like foam glass without a mask or suit
There is no school like the old school, proper tradesman , , brings back memories of my apprenticeship 30 years ago , it’s not all about running the line in ,
Nice work, crackin tips for the youngsters, like to see what you think of our work. FB page, Duncan & Hendrie Builders. Keep up the good honest work 👍👍
Smoke it all day everyday have done for 15 years one of the quickest and neatest around very ocd about my work nothing wrong with smoking mate to many people think it just mongs you out. I train and box a few days a week also

Nothing beats the feeling of becoming good enough at a new task to be trusted to do it alone!
I’m not a bricky or a even trainee but I’d just like to say good on you for sharing your knowledge with the young ones. You deserve appreciation and success. Cheers Bob
Swear to god if I had someone like you teaching me back when I was an apprentice I'd still be in the game.
