It is plausible that the Chase rep they talked to was in the same building/ office as the scammer.

This is completely on the customer. If a customer gets a call that there is fraud on their account, instead of calling the bank, just log directly into your account to see if there are any transactions you didnt authorize and alerts/notices. This victim called Chase and said that they got a call from Chase so why would the rep think it's fraud. Why didn't the customer hang up on the person who called them so that they could talk to the chase rep that they called and knew was legit? There are entirely TOO many stories/videos regarding fraud for customers to still fall for this. Also. This is going to end up hurting other customers as the banks recoup their losses by raising fees/cutting services

A number being spoofed has absolutely nothing to do with security. Nor is it something you can stop others from doing 🤦🏽‍♂️ it's crazy how whenever someone falls for a scam, you all literally use any excuse to blame the bank.
