@@erincrosby9087 Well....she also did not want animation, Dick van Dyke, songs and much more. Honestly, Walt did exactly everyting she feared. @@MissFlowbut at the same time the author strikes me as the kind of person who is just a grouch. Walt could have made an exact adaptation and it would have flopped, then the author would have still blamed him for it failing instead of acknowledging that ‘hey maybe this guy understands the movie industry better than I do.’
I think ultimately she hated that Walt’s version was so popular because it proved her book had a good idea that she didn’t execute properly. Walt saw the potential and aspired to reach it, and I’m so glad he did.

+fückin eh My mom grew up with Mary Poppins and Alice in Wonderland so she kinda brainwashed me into liking them. Well, brainwashed isn't the right word. She played them for us as kids and we fell in love with them instantly, and I couldn't stop watching this and Alice in Wonderland to the point where I'd cry when it was over and make my mom rewind it and watch the whole thing about 2 more times. I'm sure she was sorta happy about that. She could probably get a lot of things done during those 4 hours I was just sitting there encaptured with these two films that she had all that time to herself besides the rewinding time on the VHS. I went through this period from about 4 to 6 years old.

Iconic theatre role Liza in my fair lady film, stating she was not “picture material”, & gave the role to Audrey. Andrews won an Oscar for Mary Poppins., but Dick’s physical comedy & performance is perfect partnering for Andrews character , incl his voice & singing. His range is wide & he’s not intimidated by Andrews 13 octave operatic voice.

It would be interesting to know the history of Mary and Burt. It is obvious in the film that Burt already knows her when she shows up. I wonder what the story is behind how they came to first know each other? And what Mary Poppins actually is, it is obvious she is not just a regular person, is she a Sprite a Fairy a Good Witch what exactly is she?

Introduced to this wonderful wonderful film as a child back in the 60s. It had a huge bearing on my whole life. As an adult I can get emotional even watching it today at the end of 2018. Disney was simply brilliant and only yesterday my eldest daughter grown up takes my other daughter to see the new sequel film.
They both cried in it and loved it mainly because they told me afterwords that s it reminded them of their childhoods. They said thanks Dad for giving us such a magical childhood.
What bigger complement can you have than that from your kids.
I didn't do much really other than spend a lot of time with them and give them the duty free gift; a vivid imagination.
Well all I can say is thanks Walt Disney for such brilliant inspirational films.

And the dance break was perhaps the first time I ever enjoyed ballet. I was 4 (the exact same age my dad was in this movie's original 1964 release) when I first saw the movie on video back in 1997. This movie was released in Chicago and I was 10 years old. My brother was 17 and refused to take me. So my parents did. The movie was so great that my parents bought the soundtrack for me. I still have it. This song is one of many extraordinary performances in this masterpiece. However, this one makes me teary because of the love that is evident between Mary and Burt. One of the tragedies was when Julie was robbed of her voice. She was consummate. But the joy is that I get to write this while Dick is still alive. Whether it was his TV show, or Bye Bye Birdie, or Columbo, or Diagnosis Murder, or Mary Poppins, Mr. Van Dyke is always brilliant. "A vanishing breed, that's me.!" A vanishing breed is Mr. Van Dyke. A jolly jolly holiday with you.
