I discovered Five Star during the pandemic and fell in love with them. So many great songs and videos. Never made a dent in America but they were huge in the UK. My favorites are “Find The Time”, “Whenever You’re Ready” and “With Every Heartbeat”. You’ll have fun with this group.
Hi Dereck, I am a relatively new subscriber, loving your reactions to the classics from the '80s. Five Star were my favourite group when I was 9 and 10, so am really glad to see you enjoying this one. They were always referred to as Britain's version of the Jacksons, which you can totally see. If I rember rightly, Stedman (the older brother)!designed the costumes and one of the sisters choreographed the dance routines. They had quite a few hits up until about 1988, such as Rain or Shine, Love Take Over, All Fall Down and Stay Out of My Life. Have a great weekend!
They were big elsewhere and so much about to break in the US that their father bought a house there but he was such a bad manager that he unintentionally destroyed their career.
Great group from the mid 80's-early 90's. LOTS of fantastic songs and videos. My personal favourites; Another weekend, Rain or shine and Treat me like a lady. More reactions, please!
Five Star are a British pop group, formed in 1983 and comprising siblings Stedman, Lorraine, Denise, Doris and Delroy Pearson. They were marketed as the British Jacksons steadman was the mj lookalike.delroy was the baby.denise did the main singing.they always had costumes and choreography.they were from Romford London and got carried away buying a house and expensive cars and went bankrupt I think.their rain or shine album was the first album I bought and the only vinyl I owned.
1. Romford, though a borough of London for administrative purposes for some decades, is in Essex. 2. It was their father's extravagance and general bad management that destroyed them.
My favourite Five Star track reaching number 3 in the UK charts in 1986 selling over 250,000 copies in the UK. Five Star had huge success in the UK & elsewhere & did have 15 top 40 singles in the UK often referred to as the British version of the Jackson 5 pure 80s!!
Denise has an amazing voice and is just the sweetest person. They’re all pretty great. I loved them in the 80s and I love them now. Headphones on, volume way up there and just party! If you play The Slightest Touch make sure you play the Shep Pettibone 7” version, it’s the best. Lots of hits, couple of big albums then it went south as they tried to go a bit more raunchy.
Considering they were a British band , 5 Star and especially this song had a vibe that it should have been in a John Hughes movie, It is so iconic of the mid 80's. Mind you he did use a lot of British music in his films.
I was surprised to see you doing Five Star, haven't heard this one before. They were like the UK Jacksons. I loved them the first time hearing them in '85 "All Fall Down" then "Let Me Be The One", think I was in 6th grade. Another I remember was '86 "I Can't Wait Another Minute". Hope you watch these or others from them. Have you reviewed another 80's family act called The Jets? "Crush On You", "Curiosity", "Rocket 2 U", "Cross My Broken Heart" some fun tunes from '85-'89!!
Listen to her sing System Addict in 2003. It's on RUclips. She's an even better singer than in the 80s. She was about 15 or 16 when she did this in the 80s. She's also on RUclips with a Jackson singing the Jackson Medley singing Michael Jackson's parts in his style.
Hi Dereck I love 5 star and they did lots of hits like Stay out of my life,Rain or shine,Strong as steel,The slightest touch and Find the time. Please react to some of these songs
Five Star released 8 studio albums between 1985 and 2001. Their 1989 Greatest Hits album contained 2 new songs. Doris and Stedman have released solo singles over the years. Denise released a solo album in 2014. Group have not performed in public as a quintet since their father died in 2012. Denise continues to tour as Five Star with non-sibling back-up dancers.
Oooooooooh Five Star🔥🔥🔥 Every minute of 1985 (when not in School) was spent trying to nail the choreography to Can’t wait another minute by them. Awesome video and my Favorite song by them. So much fun to see you react to them!! Speaking of kick ass coreography - Miss u much by Ms Janet Jackson is so incredibly good if you want a video with 80’s dancing. The best♥️
I grew up with this band, randomly came across this video when recommending the song to a friend in his 20's as it's quite relevant to todays kids :D Glad you enjoyed it, from the UK and these guys were as big as Michael Jackson to me :) Epic, they were managed by their dad (they were all brothers/sisters, the Pearsons), the band fell apart rowing with each other and their family and ended up broke and, well, a mess after spending everything on houses and cars. The lead singer still tours as Five Star and she's the only 'original' one left.
Bit late, but when I saw the thumbnail I got so excited, then saw that you had Approved. System Addict is one of my 80's favourites. So happy you loved it.
It's a very well made pop song, I remember it being my earworm. It got to Number 3 in the UK when Billy Ocean was #1 with When the Going Gets Tough and Madonna was at #2 with Borderline.
Five Star are my life! Once you've done all the hits, the album tracks are all gold too! So much to explore and enjoy with this group. More image changes than Janet and Madonna lol. And yes they're one family!
This track actually pre-dates anything from Janet's "Control". Janet was actually a fan of theirs. If you're checking their RUclips channel, there are four singles blocked in the US - If I Say Yes, RSVP, Rock My World, Hot Love - but you can search for those. ;)
Say that again. The people in the back didn't hear you. Five Star's heavily choreographed routines pre-date Janet's Control era. In 1985, Janet was still doing her two-step shoulder wiggle move.
they were considered the British version of the jackson 5 they had a string of hits too... great band.. you should do reactions to their other songs love take over , find the time , hide and seek, the slightest touch ,whenever your ready, if id say yes , rsvp, strong as steel , let me be the one ,all fall down, cant wait , rain or shine
OMFG. You are so passionate and so hilarious. However as adorable as you are that particular track is System Addict is a great song in my opinion. They are brothers and sisters and have had many hits. The thing that made them stand out in my opinion is every band member played an important role in the construction of the group. Denice was lead vocalist. Doris choreographed the dance routines and every track had a different and incredible routine. All were mind-blowing and so immaculate. Stedman did the outfits they wore. Lorraine did make up and Delroy did some of the music production. One of the best groups in the world. I loved them and was lucky enough to meet Denice which was amazing. Its interesting you compared them to Miss Jackson ( if ya nasty ) as they were often compared to the jacksons. I thought they were amazing and not like anyone else but thats my opinion. Your reaction with the key change had me in fits of laughter. You are hilarious and lovely and you got some pretty good moves yourself mister xxx
Hey, check out something like Laura Branigan - Solitaire, moonlight on water or cry wolf. Songs that dont play so much out there but are absolutely awesome.
I was the biggest fan of Five Star from 1985 - I was 11, they were the soundtrack to my teenage years - as a gay teenager their music means so much to me as it got me through high school. They were at their height in 1986 - they were everywhere in the UK
Omg, I LOVED 5 Star when I was little! Came 3rd in a dance competition when I was 10 basically coping their moves 😂 Rain Or Shine, The Slightest Touch & Stay Out Of My Life next please. I think they invested their money badly & ended up going through bankruptcy when the hits dried up 😞
Five Star's US label was not trying to push them into the pop market. They kept them on the black/R&B side. Some of their biggest international hits were not even released as singles in the US. This and "Rain Or Shine' being two of their biggest UK singles.
Treat me like a lady...... Is my favourite by five star.. And all fall down.... Rain or shine.. Stay out of my life... Another weekend I like them all..
Just search for "Five Star - System Addict (Live at Living TV 2003 - 5 Star)" - it's on Five Star's RUclips channel. Singing and dancing is better in 2003.
Very good choice, I love 5 Star, they're very talented band from UK and pretty much like MJ and Janet Jackson, you are correct, they have more hits, it will be cool if react on those, thanks for the cool reaction.
Back in 1985, this was cutting edge, the video the clothes-hair- makeup, but by the late 80's, it was already completely dated . The 80's moved by so quickly and everything got old really quick. No other decade evolved more with music, than the 80's
And for everyone who believes and keeps reguritating the British media's narrative that Five Star we're broke and had to sell their home and flee the UK... The Pearson Family owns their label, Tent Records, and their masters and only licenced their music to RCA and Sony. The bulk of their earnings went to the Pearsons. This is not typical of most musical acts. And they were not the only British music act to relocate to the states. Dusty Springfield did it in the late '60s/early '70s. She felt she had achieved all she could in the UK. The British media loves building their popstars up only to tear them down. They had a field day trying to ruin Gary Barlow after Take That broke up. There's only so far you can get in a barrel of crabs.
Can you react to five star shine. You done a reaction to a previous early career song....but this is them in the mid 90s...five star shine. I've subscribed 👍
try their hit....stay outta my life....thats my favourite by them....or .....let me be the one....or even.....can't wait another minute..... yeah i liked them enough to buy two albums

With Every Heartbeat should have been one of their biggest hits - but the press were out to get them by 1989 and it stalled at No.49
I love that this generation is finding out about Five Star!! They were the best.

Doris choregraphed the dance routines
*First heard this when it was originally released, and fell in love with the whole package!* ⭐😃👍
Five Star is an amazing group. They were pop and soulful. They were huge in the UK!
They were big elsewhere and so much about to break in the US that their father bought a house there but he was such a bad manager that he unintentionally destroyed their career.

I loved Five Star! I was living in the UK in 85 when they hit big time. They were the British answer to The Jets and DeBarge.
I Loved 5 Star...so many hits
They had a lot of success in the UK between 1985-88. I think you'd like The Slightest Touch.
Bit late, but when I saw the thumbnail I got so excited, then saw that you had Approved. System Addict is one of my 80's favourites. So happy you loved it.
They appeared many times on "soul train" in america throughout the 80's and 90's.
It's a very well made pop song, I remember it being my earworm. It got to Number 3 in the UK when Billy Ocean was #1 with When the Going Gets Tough and Madonna was at #2 with Borderline.
