Having a garden that you put a lot of time in and then have to move, it’s so heart breaking. Save the heart break. Enjoy what you have for now. I left a 15 year old garden that l started from nothing. The people who bought my house let the gardens go, and that really broke my heart. So save your time and energy for your next home.
Sadly, I have seen the same thing happen in my neighborhood when homes change ownership. Seems like many people are just not interested in gardening anymore. I so want roses in my yard. I had a beautiful shrub rose bush with small white roses. Had to dig it up because the japanese beetles constantly swarmed and devoured it. Despite the advertisements, I don't think there is any rose bush resistant to these predator insects! Dealing with the deer and moles is current headache in the garden! Comes with the natural wooded & stream area in the backyard--but, I have to have garden beauty in the backyard. Wish peonies blossomed all summer long! If anyone has ideas of how to push out the moles, please advise! Thanks!
I just love watching Willow. We lost our 15 year old pup a month ago today and we are heartbroken. Our girl too, loved to “chase” the water, and every Christmas we would get her new balls to play with. My pup was my shadow and she kept me going as much as I did her. It made me smile to watch Willow today. Love the walking tours. So many great ideas and so peaceful. Can’t wait for the next video.
I’m sorry for your loss it’s very painful we have just lost our dear friend Perry he was 15 also. He lives in our hearts and he fly’s on new wings into the light. The love and laughter will be with us forever after. Yvonne xx
OMG...WILLOW following you while you mow(and that sneaky background music) is about the cutest thing I've seen awhile. That had me cracking up! Edit: Actually I commented before I watched the entire thing: she is quite the little stinker, isn't she? I think she was the star of the show and I'm sure she'd enjoy hearing that. She's so precious.
I am same situation about fixing up more gardens while selling home soon. I decided not everyone can tolerate pollens and scents of fowers and others want little or no upkeep. So I bought a little notebook, cutting out photos of flowers and gardens I want, then I am buying seed packs and bulbs that will keep. I put my favorite plants in big pots that can be moved to my next house, but that I can also enjoy during current summer months . Best of both worlds and you are saving money for your dream home gardens!
What an absolute joy it is to watch New England from England. Thank you for showing the beautiful gardens. As a wild flower enthusiast I really appreciated the names of the flowers which said then looked and compared to English ones. Your home and channel are beautifully curated with an abundance of ideas. Thank you very much.
My husband and I are planning on moving in about 18 months. We both retired last fall, and for the first time in 40 years I can really garden! So, I am planning lots of plantings even though we will leave it. My gift to the home we have raised our sons at and loved.
Linda, you have a wonderful eye and a beautiful soul! Your videos are so relaxing. I would wait to make the gardens if you feel that you will be sure you will find your new home this year. And Miss Willow could not be any cuter!
When I wash my windows outside, I hose them off and then put Dawn directly on my sponge mop. I scrub the windows and then hose them off to rinse. They air dry without spots. Not perfect, but it does the job!😃 It beats climbing on step stools and using squeegees!😃
Wow I never would have thought of that. I'm only five foot in the windows hardly ever get done because I'm afraid to stand on the ladder and stretch those spots that aren't within my reach.
Linda, I just love listening to you, your voice is so calm and casual, but you are never monotone.. I would love to see some of these gardens including yours. I live in Ohio and we have so many ground moles that it's ridiculous. And every time you disturb the dirt to put down mulch or weed or plant something new they come through overnight and destroyed all. Anybody have any great ideas I think we've tried most everything. We have two acres and one acre is all plantings The gardens that you walked us through or just beautiful. And I can't remember the name of that really large leaf plant that you have in your yard, but it just cracks me up when you're standing in amongst them. That Willow is a little hoot. Jumping up in the water from the hose is too funny. I think the wallpaper is beautiful and I think you'll love it once it's up.
This was a lovely video to watch whilst enjoying brunch today. So, Linda, it would be most appropriate to never, ever refer to yourself as "lazy" again. Clearly you are anything but!! Now on to the question you asked regarding what to do about the gardens...you continue maintaining, caring for, loving, and appreciating the current-created gardens at your present location--and also imagining what you'll create in your next property which is so full of possibilities. Love what you have and enjoy the dream of what is to come!
Just spent 8 hours out in my garden, started early to beat the heat. Came in for a shower and relax. Found your video. Always to calming. Can you imagine being the person that built that stone wall?
What a joy watching Willow attack the water! If you don't mind a gardening tip....I helped out in clients gardens making new beds, extending new garden beds by outlining with a shovel or edger. Lifting and turning over the turf in clumps (so, its grass on grass) then laying layers of newspaper on the clumps of dirt, amending soil and mulching. I let this "cook" (i.e., lasagna gardening) for months. I had free leaf mulch from the municipalities where I lived to help amend the soil while cooking until your'e ready to plant. Yes, it takes time. Transplant and divide your existing plants to keep the costs down. Maybe go to plant swaps or plant sales in your neighborhood. Also, the laying of newspaper controls weeds! Move the mulch over, lay newspaper, water the paper and re-mulch.
Yarrow-appears to be what in the South we call “Queen Anne’s Lace.” My sister uses it like one would baby’s breath-to accompany wildflower arrangements for the center of her dining room table. But it wilts easily, so if cutting, you need to bring along a vessel with some water to preserve it till you return home.
Hello Linda, another great video. What I use for mildew is bleach with dawn and water. I use a sprayer wait a few minutes and all you need to do is take the hose and rinse it down. No brushing involved. Your house looks great for the 4th. I did the bourbon marinade came out great. Willow is a great pup. Happy 4th of July 🇱🇷
Willow cracks me up! She's hilarious. Thank you for sharing her antics. Also, thank you for the many "voice overs" in the sections where you have text too. Love your videos because we share many of the same passions of gardens, architecture, interior design, etc. As far as your garden, chose what makes you happy and what you have time and energy for. I watch a homesteader family, roots and Refuge. They knew they were moving for about the last 18 months. Jessica continued to plant perennial vegetables like asparagus and perennial flowers. Her thought was to bless the family that buys the place. So, if you decide to build what makes you happy now then you can move forward with that thought in mind. Keep the lovely videos coming! ❤
Bloom where you are planted. I have left many a garden during my 47 year marriage, I learned something at each. The ideal situation is to find a new house and thin the plants in the old one before you put it on the market and move them. Another alternative is to thin the perennial beds and fill flower pots and have them all over your deck. I did that early one Spring before we put a house on the market and it looked gorgeous. In July I took them all with me to their new home.
Definitely not lazy! The garden tours were so beautiful. I think I would fall somewhere in the middle as far as what you should do while waiting to move. You can do so landscape decorating that would make your property more enjoyable for you for the rest of the summer, but I wouldn't put in a huge effort if you are determined to move in the near future. In any event your house is lovely even if you choose to do nothing else for the time being.
I like some grassy area. Flower gardens are pretty and full of life but work too. I think it’s beautiful just like it is as a magical garden. Relax & enjoy gf
I just found your videos and I love them I love New England I love New England ever since I was a teenager it's my dream the architecture the gardening the stone walls everything antiques everything about it and I am hooked right now to your videos and I want to watch them all thank you so much for such an enjoyable video and you do throw in a little humor there that gives me a giggle for the day so I enjoy you so much thank you so much
When I think of Linda Smith Davis lazy is NOT the word that comes to mind!!!!! Thanks for taking us along on your NH walks, but my first thought as you started to walk through the tall grass was……ticks! And then you made the comment about them😀. My hubby and I booked our flight from Denver to Logan to visit our longtime friends and neighbors in NH. I am so excited to get back to visit Henniker. Your videos really help me with my homesickness for NH and make me feel like I’m there, even if its for a short visit; thank you for that. Can’t wait for your next video.
House looks so pretty with the bunting. People buy properties because they look so pretty- but once they move in they find it took someone a lot of time and energy to make it look so nice-- and they have to continue it-- so maybe keeping updating at a minimum might be good idea so all your work is not in vain--just a thought-
I love the travel portions of your videos. I would recommend buying plants and putting them into containers that you can take with you. You will have a jump start on the new garden.
I think I’d wait to do anything extensive in the garden until you’re settled into your new home. Instead, you could do a bunch of annual container gardens and enjoy them but not have to leave them behind as they’d only be good for the one season.
I agree 100% with Kathy Penner below, use more annuals and some nice big pots that you can take with you, another thing is that a garden is one of the few things that doesn't usually add value to the sale of the house. Secondly scrubbing birdbaths with undiluted vinegar keeps algae away for a long time as well as mixing some vinegar with Dawn soap to scrub anything outside also keeps mildew at bay
What A sweet girl willow is, but boy, she seems to have boundless energy, just watching her, l'm exhausted! Love the garden tours, you are giving me inspiration for my own yard. Wonderful video!
This was so much fun, I really enjoyed walking through the billowy tall grass through you, what a treat. If I ever get the opportunity to really do it, I will make sure to put on my bug repellant because like you said and tis very funny 😂The ticks won't mind😆 Your Willow is so smart. I believe you might want to wait till you find your dream home. Perhaps start growing some of the plants that take a long while to grow by planting them now in containers and they will be somewhat mature by the time you move.
Do it! Because you will learn things that you can apply to your forever garden. It may not be easy to leave what you have created but I’m believe the new owners will consider it a bonus. You know, you learn something new all the time when gardening 🙂
You have an amazing home and garden I hate it when you say you want to move😩. I am terrible at gardening but you always inspire me to try try again!! Lost my lab 2 years ago - just love watching Willow. What a beautiful walk. Another wonderful video
I’ve been in our house for almost 45 years. I really expanded my garden the past 25 years and have been on our cities garden tour several times. It is my passion and I plan to dig up many of my perennial’s and take them with me. I’ve already started planting in large pots so they will be ready to go when the time comes.
Put sister's A a huge pot at the posts is what I would do. As far as start I done a garden, it would depend on the time frame in which I planned to move. A variety of large different size, textured and colored pots would be ideal for me.
When I think of Linda Smith Davis lazy is NOT the word that comes to mind!!!!! Thanks for taking us along on your NH walks, but my first thought as you started to walk through the tall grass was……ticks! And then you made the comment about them😀. And our chocolate lab sleeps in that same position😀😀
Another great video, love your sense of humor, made me giggle, Willow is such a smartie. The coffee predicament made me really laugh, been there done that many times, glad I'm not alone. Thx for sharing and have a happy 4th of July! 🇺🇸
Oh my gosh. I was laughing so hard! our labradoodle is exactly the same with her ball. she drops it in what ever I am working on outside, until I play ball with her. It is fun, but it does get tiring when you want to get work done. Willow reminds me so much of ours. your house is looking beautiful!
I can totally relate to your coffee dilemma. Thank you for the garden tour, lovely to see and lots of good ideas. Willow is so adorable and super smart, what a sweetheart I love watching her. Happy 4th of July 🇺🇸
Maybe you could devote a part of your yard as a nursery, where you have a few of each plant that you love. Then you can dig them up and take them with you.
Live fully in the present moment. If you're inspired to add more flower beds, do it. I have left homes and gardens that I loved and busted my tail improving, but when I leave, I know that all the beauty that is around my home and garden is inside me. And I take that with me. There's no conserving or stockpiling of energy--you have whatever energy you have at that moment--go ahead and use it. Just take it one small area at a time--then when the opportunity to move arises, you won't have to quickly wrap up an entire yard re-do and you will have enjoyed the designing and seeing your visions come to life.
As always, your video was delightful! Sadly, being in Ohio, we can’t water or feed the birds until the DNR figures out what is killing our birds. It has been extremely hot here also and I feel so bad not being able to put out fresh, cool water.
I have done the same thing with the coffee ☕maker. My husband gets up early and I wake up later and he informs me that I must have been really tired because I didn't add coffee. Lol I would go ahead with planting the garden I want. Once you do that you will find the Perfect Home. That's usually how it works out. Life is too short not to live in the moment. Those gardens are Beautiful! Thank you for sharing. Willow is so Adorable. Have a Happy 4th of July!🇺🇸
Thank you for the wonderful video! I never miss one! Now about the garden, I would enjoy the beautiful one you have and wait for the forever garden until you are in the forever house. I loved seeing your morning,we all have those!😆
Hi Linda...thanks so much for the funny and enjoyable video I think I'll ask my Sam for a push mower we'll look after he gets up from falling down laughing....Willow is so smart of course not as smart as you eh!! Very appreciated Susan in London Ontario
Ben bought the mower for me the first year we bought it after I mentioned I used to push one as a child and thought it would be fun for out house. Next thing I new it was delivered to our door! LOL. I do have a link below if you don't find one you like. Mine is from Scotts. Have fun!
I so enjoyed your walk through the gardens. Very peaceful and enchanting. I also get inspired when I walk through gardens and nature. I have a dozen ideas that I want to incorporate around my home. I am thinking that if it were me, I would plant in my current home while I am in it. Once you are in your new home, you will definitely put your energy there. (I know that much about you! ☺️) But why not enjoy where you are right now? 😉 I loved watching you and Willow. Willow is such a sweet soul. Our dog, Marley, use to bite the water stream from the hose as well. It use to tickle me so much. Your home looks lovely. I appreciate you sharing it with us.
Loved the tours. My opinion on making a garden in your current yard is to wait! Enjoy other yards on your tour this summer and take pictures of those yards that inspire you for use in your future yard. Love Willow!
Linda I enjoy your adventures and garden so much! Makes my day and I understand “Willow Ways” because I have a doodle too. If I would turn around too fast he would knock me down (57 pounds)!
My house is now half painted the same color as yours. We all agree it is Fab! I think it is going to look great against the snow. Thank you for your color references on your blog.
I would wait on the garden until you are in your new house. I am in a similar situation. We will be moving at some point within the next two years and I have decided not to do any really big projects. Just small ones that would enhance the sale of our home. That's my primary focus right now. There's a lot of things I'd still like to do, but the house is just too big for us now that our children are married and have their own houses. I'm looking forward to a smaller home with smaller projects!
If it was a year wait for the purchase of the new home I would plant all the flowers I wanted 😜 and my bull terrier also goes crazy with the hose. Thank you for sharing everything it breathtaking 🤍and Willow is soo cute!
Having a large expansive garden when you're selling can be a bit of a hindrance for those looking to buy. Sometimes people may not want to put that much time into a property. Something that's more manageable I would believe may be a better choice, that way if the buyer wants to expand they have the option. Just my thought. Loved the tour!
Isn't summer amazing? We are having glorious weather in the south so I've spent a lot of time outdoors. Heading to the Blue Ridge Parkway to picnic tomorrow. Love your outdoor walks. I wish summer lasted 12 months!
Lol at finally getting a cup of coffee! Willow is so precious ! I have same problem with my dogs putting ball where i am working too and it goes on and on! The worst is when I'm shoveling snow! Love your wallpaper ! Thanks Linda!
My dog is OCD too about her toys , one time we clocked her … 3 HOURS Non stop , I would throw it , she would run & get it .. I tuckered out before she did !! I finally just told her No more , momma is done ! 😂😂 She is a little 6 pound Yorkie, love her so much , but boy is she hyper sometimes.. 💕
To respond to your question, Linda, about creating a garden now vs waiting, my advice is to live in the moment. It's hard to predict when you will find your unicorn home, so why not enjoy what you can today? Also, the stepping stones that you saw on your visit to the garden in New Hampshire......you need those on "Willow's Trail" that she made to the bird bath! A perfect spot to create a mini-version of your own garden sanctuary. PS--Did you notice your wallpaper is close to the same color as the paint on your home....hmmm!!!
I love the garden walk you did with all the sounds. The flowers are lovely. I love how your dog loves to play all the time. My did also, she loved walks and chasing the ball. I really enjoyed this video, I found it relaxing. Have a great day!
I would probably just do the maintenance on the current home and put your energy into the next one. I don’t think I would tackle any big projects because it really is just beautiful right now and there’s already lots to enjoy.
Thats very strong and practical sensible advice, and no doubt worth taking into consideration . 👍😊🌺

You could always get creative with container gardening, that way when its time to move you just move the pots to your new home.
Agree, that is what you tubers Garden Obsession do as they are a military family and are always moving.
Love that idea! Claus Dalby has the most beautiful potted garden, i have vegetables in mine!
I get a kick out of Willow, she makes me laugh, what a great dog! Love the walks through the gardens.
Your home is so charming, and Willow is just precious, love that little personality.

Willow must have Ben in Heaven during this walk.❤️🐕
I love the sounds of nature, and I love the sound of gravel crunching under foot

Coffee Adventures! Love that Willow! My favorite wildflower is the Texas Bluebonnet.
Thanks for watching Debbie!
And our chocolate lab sleeps in that same position😀😀
Hi Linda, We have looked a few times in Henniker while house hunting. It is about an hour north of us. What a beautiful area it is!.
Another great video, love your sense of humor, made me giggle, Willow is such a smartie. The coffee predicament made me really laugh, been there done that many times, glad I'm not alone.
Thx for sharing and have a happy 4th of July! 🇺🇸
Thanks Liz! I sure do wish we lived closer to each other!
So enjoyable
We don’t start hearing crickets until mid August- harbingers of fall. Love your walk.
Oh my gosh. I was laughing so hard! our labradoodle is exactly the same with her ball. she drops it in what ever I am working on outside, until I play ball with her. It is fun, but it does get tiring when you want to get work done. Willow reminds me so much of ours. your house is looking beautiful!
If its going to be your forever home I would wait xx (UK)
Thank you for your input Barbara! I agree with you.
Another great video! I swear I can smell the coffee ! Great idea to include the nature sounds! Willow is so sweet!
My dear Linda. Do the garden in your backyard NOW. Half the joy of a garden is making it. Go ahead and enjoy that part now.
I can totally relate to your coffee dilemma. Thank you for the garden tour, lovely to see and lots of good ideas. Willow is so adorable and super smart, what a sweetheart I love watching her. Happy 4th of July 🇺🇸
Thanks so much! 😊 Happy 4th of July to you too!
Maybe you could devote a part of your yard as a nursery, where you have a few of each plant that you love. Then you can dig them up and take them with you.
What a great idea Lori!
I must have my head in the sand! I have not heard about birds taking ill and passing in your area. Please keep us informed!
I love the garden walks! Great for ideas for my garden! Love seeing Willow also! Give her hugs for us! Thanks also for our weekly inspiration Linda!💝
Hello,how are you doing?
I have done the same thing with the coffee ☕maker. My husband gets up early and I wake up later and he informs me that I must have been really tired because I didn't add coffee. Lol
I would go ahead with planting the garden I want. Once you do that you will find the Perfect Home. That's usually how it works out. Life is too short not to live in the moment. Those gardens are Beautiful! Thank you for sharing. Willow is so Adorable. Have a Happy 4th of July!🇺🇸
You are far from lazy.🌸 your dog is adorable.
Thank you! 😊
Love the herb & clippers… basket! - Will look for one, NEED.
🤣your coffee problem is so familiar to me 😉 I would wait and put all my love for the garden of my forever home ❤️🌹
I love it!
All so beautifully done. Thank you for sharing.
Have fun!
Love your background music sound effect.👍👌
You need an automatic ball throwing machine for Willow🐾🐾🐾❤️❤️
Oh we are all too familiar with mornings that begin like THIS! You certainly are NOT alone!
I loved watching you and Willow. Willow is such a sweet soul. Our dog, Marley, use to bite the water stream from the hose as well. It use to tickle me so much. Your home looks lovely. I appreciate you sharing it with us.
Enjoyed the mixture of tasks, trails, tour and was hoping that you put up some patriotic decor! Thank you and Happy July 4th!!
Loved the tours. My opinion on making a garden in your current yard is to wait! Enjoy other yards on your tour this summer and take pictures of those yards that inspire you for use in your future yard. Love Willow!
I love a push mower. Excercise. Gas free. AND being a rotary mower, they do the best job.
You got that right! I do go back a couple of times if a tall piece of grass gets bent over and does not cut. LOL
Linda I enjoy your adventures and garden so much! Makes my day and I understand “Willow Ways” because I have a doodle too. If I would turn around too fast he would knock me down (57 pounds)!
Nice design
Hello,how are you doing?
It was wonderful to see everything.
My house is now half painted the same color as yours. We all agree it is Fab! I think it is going to look great against the snow. Thank you for your color references on your blog.
So beautiful. Thank you for sharing 😁👍
I love your videos, Linda. Always so relaxing and enjoyable, and I really enjoy your choice of beautiful music. Thanks for sharing them with us. 🤗💕
Linda, I so enjoy the music you choose to accompany your videos. Thank you.
If it was a year wait for the purchase of the new home I would plant all the flowers I wanted 😜 and my bull terrier also goes crazy with the hose. Thank you for sharing everything it breathtaking 🤍and Willow is soo cute!
What a wonderful dog. Loved seeing your husband's 👍.
Loved that rock path walk you took. It reminds me of Jane Austen walks...
Diane! I am just now watching a Jane Austen house tour as your comment posted. I will have to watch and see what you mean! thank you!
Willow is so cute!
Willow is so darn cute:) I love the walk in the gardens, so pretty and peaceful. Where is a good place to buy lamps for a traditional home?
Hello,how are you doing?
Thank you sharing the beautiful garden tour.
Love the wallpaper!💜
My dog is OCD too about her toys , one time we clocked her … 3 HOURS Non stop , I would throw it , she would run & get it .. I tuckered out before she did !! I finally just told her No more , momma is done ! 😂😂
She is a little 6 pound Yorkie, love her so much , but boy is she hyper sometimes.. 💕
I would wait on adding anymore gardens. Enjoy the hard work you have put in your gardens and relax my dear. 😊
Delighted to have found your channel :)
I love your videos. So soothing.
I love the garden walk you did with all the sounds. The flowers are lovely. I love how your dog loves to play all the time. My did also, she loved walks and chasing the ball. I really enjoyed this video, I found it relaxing. Have a great day!
I love your home and landscaping 😍!!🌳🌸🍃
I really do enjoy your videos. Thanks
I would probably just do the maintenance on the current home and put your energy into the next one. I don’t think I would tackle any big projects because it really is just beautiful right now and there’s already lots to enjoy.
Thank you for your input Laurie! I appreciate you taking the time to comment.
