This song started as an attempt to write a song in the same vein as the band Vola as well as attempting to write verse vocals in the style of Steven Wilson. From there, it expanded into a mash of braindead riffs that focus more on a messy tone than the actual melody. I figured the chorus needed to be a bit more melodic since the rest of the song was a drag. Simple verse and complicated chorus is definitely the wrong way round but I like the way the structure is.

"Feeling like there's a standard on RUclips now that I'm not able to catch up with" Dude. YOU SET THE STANDARD FOR OTHER CREATORS! These first two songs have been just insane, super well written, well preformed and well produced. This is album quality stuff, not what people expect from random projects shotgunned onto what started as a humble comedy youtube channel. Can't wait to her the rest of these songs over the next month and a half, you rock man.

Dude, this kicks serious ass, if you're capable of incredible stuff like this even every few years, other musicians will still have to try and measure up to the standard YOU set. The vocals are absolutely fantastic, haunting mellows and explosive gutturals, all layered on top of some amazing guitar work and just generally well crafted music. If you like this I'd recommend Loathe. Not a 1:1 comparison, but there's definitely some similarities between their sound and this.
Try Vola. They even commented on this video. Though this is a bit heavier than them.
Fully recommend two bands: The Ocean (try 'Triassic') and Playgrounded ('The Swan')!

I love the Vola influence; "Ruby Pool" is one of the most unashamedly pretty songs I've heard. You have an amazing ear for beautiful melodies that hit emotionally. It was evident in your cover choices like "April" and "Bloodline," and clear on Imposter. I'm excited for the rest of Djune and Djuly. :)

It took some time for your original music to grow on me but it's so worth it ! It's extremely heavy but also very deep and emotional. The overall ambiance is very dark but also light. You are finding your unique music touch, it feels like it is coming to full maturity. Truly amazing stuff !

Sometimes a simple enough concept (7/8 rhythm) is enough to create song that is just the right balance between enjoyable and non-complex. This song slaps! Being aware of the dullness made you spice it up just enough to be great.

Clean vocals are on point, really authentic and humble, something we haven't seen since, well, Steven Wilson. Beautiful composition, hits hard but the changes bring it to the next level. Reminds me of the album Watershed by Opeth.
I'd say your video description is far too self-critical but then all really good artists are that way about their own stuff and it's probably part of the reason why they're really good so I'll just say, killer track, man!

Vola is one of my favorite bands. This has the vibes. Don't be afraid of some poppy esque arpeggiated synths to liven up "boring" parts. I honestly found the first verse type thing to have that rolling rhythm that vola so often employs to great effect.
