LOL! Your outtakes are becoming classic. I think I would be fine trying any one of these. I've gotten around to trying the Yokohama Tonkotsu Shoyu Ramen from the pack. I can now understand the term "punchy", because all these instant ramens I've tried have a much stronger flavor than anything here in the states. I really liked this one; I appreciated how the noodles held up in the broth. I've still got a number to get through, but I'm already putting together another five pack to order from you.
@@sergeigen1 I've only tried two different ramens so far, the one mentioned in this post, and the michelin star Nakiryu Tantanmen. The noodles in the tantanmen were very good quality, thin noodles. The noodles in this tonkotsu shoyu ramen were a bit thicker with a nice bite to them; something I actually prefer.
Haha, glad you're enjoying those outtakes - happy I had a bunch to work with this time. That's great the Yokohama Tonkotsu Shoyu Ramen spoke to you - definitely packs a punch. In Yokohama people often order a bowl of white rice to accompany the stronger flavored soup. I'm happy to send a different 5 if you like and if you order 😃

Yes! Tokyo in particular is crazy with lineups...love these smaller cities where you don't have to worry about that as much. The only line was at Kuromatsu - but I didn't wait more than 20 min. (I took the outside shots when leaving and the line was gone). Thanks for watching 😃
I was in Takasaki back in 2016 for the Aikido Congress. I ate some really good ramen at a inconspicuous looking shop right near the train station. It was more of a "fast-food" type establishment, but the staff was incredibly friendly and did its best to explain the dishes and help us chose. We even got some tempura on the house... I love Japan...
That's awesome! I used to do Aikido back in the day myself. Did that place serve udon (you mentioned tempura)? Indeed - what's not to love about Japan? Friendly people, amazing food!
Appreciate the background to the prefectures and city! Did you say the Takasaki ramen shops are mostly open for lunch not dinner? Great ramen reviews! The outtakes were hilarious, haha
Glad the extra info was helpful and the outtakes funny 😃. Yes, most places are only open for lunch in Takasaki - feel free to have a look at my blog post in the description - also list their open hours there!
My no. 1 pick does tend to fluctuate (as I'm always eating ramen) but I LOVED Dateya. They're definitely among my favorites in Japan...perhaps even my favorite. They'll definitely be in a video in the future - part of this same series too. I just need to get on top of editing.😅. Between the two bowls at Dateya, I might have preferred the shoyu seasoning with the soup. But only the shio comes with the dumplings...and those dumplings were insanely good! So I think leaning slightly more towards shio.
Great question - they could be considered opposites in that Tomita is about heavy hitting flavors whereas Kuromatsu serves one of the most subtly flavored bowls out there. Both of course pay great attention to details and love their craft but end up going in completely different directions. Heavy flavors are still in (Tomita's style of heavy tsukemen started in the 2000s) but you are seeing softer Kuromatsu style bowls trending the last few years.
Good question - Chukasoba is just an older term for ramen, basically translating to "Chinese soba". Modern ramen shops have been using the term a lot these days.
You know me...ever the politician 😅. I was thinking about doing this at one point. But it's so tricky with ramen because someone's "5 out of 5" could be someone else's "3 out of 5". Even in this video, each bowl was so different and I think it would come down to personal preferences. But no. 1 (Seijiken) was probably my favorite. As I eat more and more during the day, it's also harder for me to objectively evaluate 😅
Ratings vary with individual tastes. The key to finding a common ground with food video providers is hard but only possible if you know the evaluators true feelings. I like that you love eggs and other sides. You are truly considerate in your appraisals lol. Thanks
Let me know which of the 5 bowls interests you most 😃
I'm craving that Shio Paitan Ramen rn T - T
The one I'd like to try the most is the first ramen from Seijinken - those noodles seemed very special! 😄
the first one ☝️
Seijin ken, have to try the teuchimen and the chashu pork!
@@DrthmN It's heavy but not too heavy 😃
thank you for bring us to the ramen world
Always! Will do by best do be the ramen world gatekeeper 😊
Chicken gravy salty broth. Sounds like my jam 😂🙌
Haha, yes. Figured that one would grab your attention 😃
Number 4 gets my vote. Those noodles looked delicious.
One of the most beautiful bowls out there!

What are the noodles like in those packs? Are they different from each other?

Top-level ramen and no lineups (unlike at some of the most touted ramen shops of Japan)! A dream! Thanks for those amazing reports, Frank! S.

Can't wait to see the rest of your tour
Thanks for watching! Will continue with 1 more Gunma video then will move on to snowy Niigata 😃
They all looked good.
That they did 😃

@@5AMRamen I can't recall, but I remember that my sister got the soba noodles. I tried looking for it on the map, but it does not show up :(
Hopefully they'll still around! Love those extra things ppl do to be more welcoming here.

Kuromatsu looks amazing
Kuromatsu makes one of the prettiest bowls in Japan - if not the prettiest!
Oh very nice
Great bowls in Takasaki!
Would there be a video about Dateya ramen?
Is it really your no. 1 pick in all of Japan?
Which do you prefer among the two bowls of ramen in Dateya?
My no. 1 pick does tend to fluctuate (as I'm always eating ramen) but I LOVED Dateya. They're definitely among my favorites in Japan...perhaps even my favorite. Do you think that kuromatsu is in a way an opposite from tomita? One is restrained and the other goes all out? And is that representative of trends?

Think that second bowl Niboshi.
Is raw red onion in ramen a growing trend or more of a regional thing?
Great question - the red raw onions you see a lot in modern niboshi ramen, so more the style than it being regional.
Is chukasoba also ramen? I realise Tsuta calls their noodles soba but it felt like ramen to me
Good question - Chukasoba is just an older term for ramen, basically translating to "Chinese soba". Modern ramen shops have been using the term a lot these days.
