Said the people who've never used one. And yes I've been on a 4,000+ mile trip on a sports-type motorcycle at a lot of that was expressway slog against wind with nothing to do but cover miles. If I didn't have a throttle-lock (not a cruise but the next best thing), my right arm would have cramped in agony. It's a travel bike, use travel features. Great review there , bike looks amazing, but the best thing for me on your vid was your level of riding , you have great awareness of your surroundings in traffic, really good vision and proper shoulder checks and safe levels of progress, well done 👍 Btw watching from Dublin Ireland
Thanks spicy it's looks like a really nice bike. It's definitely on the test ride list when I inevitably get an adventure style ride, along with the Yamaha Tracer.
I test rode this bike a few days ago and can agree with all you said, it's a great Road Explorer bike in so many respects. However... and I think this is an isolated case - but mine started vibes at 4k, peaked at just over 5.5 and tailed off mostly by 6k, mirrors were affected at times & so riding at night might be a problem.. with this particular one. That bike, cruise control and a taller screen must be a dream bike for so many. Didn't realise you were so tall, wish I had your range of neck movement.
The ONLY reviewer I've seen thought exactly the same as me, DE/RE dirt/road editions👌 Thank you Spicy. I'm liking the bike specs etc but not loving the headlight area looks. Maybe too much black plastic there?
I have come to appreciate your reviews for being as truthful as open as possible, it is nice, Any chanc eof you getting your hands on a honda rebel 500 to give a full review on?
Excelent video. I found your channel looking for v-strom reviews. Subscribed. It's a good bike.and has tubeless tyres (what u doin' Transalp) which is a deal breaker for me. If it has ride by wire then cruise control should be an option.
Nice review, and seemingly a nice bike, though I like my L4 650! Will you have any chance to test the new GSX-S1000 GX, which is where I think I’d go next! 🙏👍
I went solely to the NEC to look at the green one, it left me cold, blue certainly has better paint...jury is still out with me,jumping on the GSX-S950 was probably a mistake, it costs as much to uncork that,as it's K5 sisters...probably a better buy?
Suzuki are knocking it out of the park at the moment. That 800 engine is a brilliant real world unit. The transalp is a good bike but seems bland in comparison to the 800 Suzuki,to me that is .....
Good afternoon sr. Great review about this bike. One question please. ¿How do you think about this bike for "daily", go and back to work, maneuverability when stopped, etc. Thanks for the video and send you a friendly hug from Canary Island, Spain.
I picked up a 09 DL 650, so far, only put 50 miles on it, ive been impressed with it. Im coming off a 86 kawasaki concours which is wore out, the 09 feels very good. Behaves itself in the muck n dirt, nice n tall for my 6' frame, good power, my only complaints so far are the corbin seat the previous owner put on is *garbage*, the windscreen is a bad joke, and whomever at suzuki thought putting the the oil filter where itll eat crap in the far north needs a wakeup call. Workin on puttin a skidplate on it but aftermarket problems of course. Itchin to put hundreds of miles up the Campbell & Canol roads up here!
Honest answer which would you choose between the RE and DE. Do you feel the RE is a lot better handling with the smaller front wheel. I love the colours of the DE but only road ride so feel the RE would be better. Wish they did the RE in better colours!!
I only give honest opinions haha For me as I would use it in the road most of the time and greenlane now and then I would get the RE, same reason I have street tries on my DRZ400sm even though I go greenlaning on it.
I'm also 6'4" and can't decide between 8s, 800DE or 800RE (mainly for the city and road, but maybe infrequently gravel). My dealer does not have 800s to test or sit on, but the 8s is quite comfy. So, if you had the same choice, what would you pick? Thanks!
If it were me I think I would go for the RE, The 8s is great but clearly not for off-road. The DE is great too but I think I would rather have the bike aimed for the road if it is mainly used there.
Was wondering how 6' 4" feels on most bikes, did the CBT on my second attempt after switching from a Grom to a pit bike and was advised to get a 125 for some experience before doing mod 1+2, they cost the same as a bigger machine but feel tiny at just a wee 6' 2".
Heated grips and Cruise control will hit it pour if the park and make it a contender to the F900XR. The Transalp if they ever offer a more road focused bike with 19/17 wheels would be a strong contender.
Well yes & no (I hear that the F900XR has a clunky quick shifter/ not smooth, as for no cruise control, there are various after-market ones such as the "Atlas Throttle Lock" that are "supposed' to be pretty good?!?. Anyway, it boils down to your likes & preferences.
I am in the market for this bike, im just wondering if you felt that this new seating position felt cramped compared to the DE version. I am 6"3 and am debating btween this and the DE.
@@spicy110 it did help knowing someone larger was comfortable on the RE. Im thinking of going with the RE and having the taller custom seat from suzuki as an option. Gives you 2cm height, making it almost similar to the DE
@@christophersmith5116 Is that not in the swingarm and forks? I do not see them elongating or shortening the frame. I am pretty sure they changed the peg position as well as the bars, that is where I think the feel is different.
Well, I'd rather buy the 650. The legendary V engine, the beautiful aluminum frame and the spoked wheels and tubeless tires, Ease of finding replacement parts

Yes sir it does, "all you have to do is release the clutch from a stop, then from then on you never need to use the clutch" - until you come to another stop - it is "kind of" the same/ similar as a paddle shifter on a car, but you use your foot/ shifter to change gears @@robinwells8879
