New subscriber. Nice to see these older sports bikes preserved. I had a 1989 FZR1000EXUP which I owned and enjoyed for 15 years. Did a restoration after 10 years ownership, then after another 5 years I part exchanged it for a mint 1999 TL1000R which was about 6 years ago This will be preserved in it's perfect condition for as long as I'm able to ride it. Purchased a 1989 GSXR1100 earlier this year that was part of a bike collection for 20 years, so I'll do a full mechanical recommission first followed by a bodywork restoration - it's in great condition but I want it perfect. To me both the ZX7R and the TLR were the WOW bikes when they came out, and I just love that v-twin engine in the TLR. Looking forward to the rest of your restoration.

Cheers, yeah I enjoyed restoring the EXUP, though happier to be restoring a slightly more iconic bike. I’d love to have a TL or an SP1/2 some day. Even riding an SV makes me want a v-twin 😂

Great to see my old bike again, so good I owned it twice! I dropped the bike at Cadwell and had the fairings painted at a bodyshop in Louth but I was never happy with the finish so I didn't finish putting it back together and swapped it for a dolomite sprint. Really looking forward to seeing finished.

Yes, that's my actual old bike and I really regret getting rid. Spur of the moment! I originally bought the bike from premier bikes in Doncaster, the frame and swing arm were already polished I then sold it and bought an x11 which I couldn't get on with so bought the zx7r back again. I've done five or six track days at Cadwell on the Kawasaki and it's great fun just warm your tyres up before getting carried away!

This is good.. It’s usually what I am doing, so to sit and watch is actually pleasurable 😄👌🏼 I have 6 1990’s bikes and a 2001 ZX12R. The bike that is receiving my attention currently is a 1999 Fireblade..
I do exactly the same, use labelled freezer bags. I have little nails on one garage wall next to the obligatory white board, so I just hang the bags out of the way, until needed again.
I love doing what I do.. it’s my hobby/passion.. but finding parts is getting harder! It took over a year to find an oem exhaust system for my 1990 ZXR750 H2. And when I did, 2 popped up almost at the same time.. so I bagged them both! 😂

This popped into my feed, and am now subbed. I bought a black one of these new back in ‘98 and adored it - plenty of power for a road bike, albeit a bit of bus! Planted front end though. From memory, don’t think they had a rear hugger at all, so an aftermarket addition I think? Splurged on in a full titanium Akrapovic for mine, but never quite got the carbs set up correctly afterwards. Still think they have one of the best looking front fairings.

    • @tomsworkshopprojects

So, the upper front fairing is held on by the mirror bolts and just two other bolts...? I saw you loosen one...but, not any other ones...? It would help me as I am removing my upper fairing... Thanks!

Trying to think back, as it was a while ago 😂 I think it is just the two bolts and the mirror mounts. If you can see the two bolts, the fairing bracket comes off with the nose cone as one (just having to disconnect the loom connections)

    • @tomsworkshopprojects

The disassembly was probably about 8 hours but it would be nearly half that if I wasn’t filming it all 😂
So far across the project it’s hard to really estimate as I haven’t really tracked it. I think it’ll easily be 100 hours or so and over £1000 spent so far, but I started the project in summer ‘22 so it’s all been spread over 2 years of evenings and Sunday afternoons.

I bought one of those ZX7 in 2000 myself it's a great handling machine I mean super super duper handler. Only problem was that weight if you didn't run a stock chain or heavier you were stretching chains to death tried to run a smaller chain I was messing with sprockets and yeah no good I was stretching Chainz like water. Especially when I was running slicks work on the slicks was just eating up the chains junk beautiful f****** bike they made it too f****** heavy if they made that bike lighter it would be unstoppable.
