The review we've all been waiting for! So when are we gonna see some sick LEGO photos/Photoshop with Barad-dûr like you did with Rivendell 😎 would be amazing!
It is exceedingly heartwarming to observe young Benny as he doth assemble his Lego constructs, his unfeigned delight and exuberance elicited by the remarkable intricacy and splendor of the miniature edifices, a sight which doth gladden the soul and evoke a tender appreciation for the simple joys of creation.
I absolutely love the way this looks in my room. As a fan of the books I really like the rock inclusion. It isn’t exactly as I pictured it but a necessary inclusion that was done well in my opinion. I totally understand people not liking it though
Thank you for comparing it to the source material, and adding propper criticism. A lot of reviews of this set that I’ve seen have been nothing but praise.
AH! So happy you did this one! I was looking forward to your take. I actually have this at home waiting for my weekend hours. I can't wait to get into it.
Sauron was in physical form, pwter Jackson changed it. He captured gollum at the start and tortured him to review the location of the ring and shire, gollum mentioned that his 9 black fingers,
11:55 Sauron was actually in physical form in the books it’s only the movie adaptation the eye was introduced so it would be better for the movie seeing as Sauron didn’t need to leave his fortress
Dang. I wish you were around doing reviews when Rivendell released. I love the way you do reviews with the amazing editing and amazing notes. A LEGO Rivendell review would have been amazing. So far, my favorite of your reviews is the LEGO Batman Animated Series Gotham City. I just love the way you edit and make your videos. Good job! Will keep watching:)
just recently got back into legos (was a huge lego kid growing up) and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS CHANNEL!! The Batman Animated Series set video was amazing I love this man keep up the fantastic reviews
Actually, according to the books, Sauron actually did have a physical form. He was just weak and mainly hid within his tower, plotting with the Mouth of Sauron, the Witch King, and other generals.
Your videos discourage me from trying to make videos, just by how much production value you have 😆 (that’s a compliment!) Barad Dur looks awesome! One suggestion, when you list a Lego set release date, you say (this year) which works for anyone watching this year. Anyone watching these in the future (2025+) it won’t really be accurate. Obviously they can look at the date on screen and the published video date, but still. Other than that nitpick, your videos are truly great and underrated!
You kinda debunked your own criticism here by saying they can see it on screen. The bulk of the views will come in the first few months after release. I think it’ll be absolutely fine this way.
Such a good reviewer. 7 hour build time. Can watch the first two extended movies back to back. Should be done by the third so you can play with and watch it at the same time.
I am currently in the process of building this massive set, and I actually don't mind all the studs. Some areas like the bridge could've had some jumper plates and tiles to smooth it out a bit, but for the rocks leave that untiled, it makes it look more like rocks and jagged. While I'm not a huge fan of the color choices for the rocky terrain in this set, it's nothing bad, I just wish they sprinkled in some browns, mostly dark brown since that's the color of Orodruin, aka Mount Doom, and Barad-Dûr is not too far from the mountain of fire. If I could make a change to this set, I'd replace those unnecessary greys with light and dark browns, and also replace the tan with browns, to help keep the dark evil fortress feel, while still breaking up all the black, and staying close to the films in appearance, although we never get too close of a look at Barad-Dûr in light, so the inclusion of the greys makes some sense since the closest we get to see of the tower, is at night in The Two Towers.
Update: after looking at a couple pictures of the Barad-Dûr bigature used in the films, it seems that the rocky terrain around and part of Barad-Dûr are closest to legos reddish brown, so if you wanted to, you could total up all the pieces needed to swap out the pieces in light and dark grey, tan, orange, all that, for the true colors, and have Barad-Dûr be accurate to what was used for the movies.
10:05 In the Fellowship of the Ring there was a scene where Gollem was tortured inside Barad-dûr. _Shire! Baggins!_ Also a dining room makes perfect sense for a fortification. Orcs can't wage war on an empty stomach.
Personally, I prefer more The Tower of Orthanc (10237) set. Why? Barad-Dur looks like huge LEGO toy with lots of features to play (which is cool!). Orthanc looks more like elegant and exclusive LEGO display item (which I prefer to have). I wish instead of kitchen LEGO made big and detailed library area.
so fun everyone says the black spears are new, they are not. i have multiple of them. the designers mispoke, they only meant the ninjago spears in black, not the regular black spears
Overall i love this set. Still it’s not perfect but what set is? Negatives to me: -building techniques are hit or miss. Some like the throne room are fun but others like the tower wall is very annoying. -i’m not that big on figs but it’s weird they throw in the orc helmets and the small Mount Doom “part” while not doing their proper body prints. -the use of bright pieces for some towers is very weird as you see the color in the corner. I myself just switched the color pieces into the wall where you don’t see it but the original idea is confusing. -i don’t have problems with stickers where they’re just adding final touches but here to me it was too much. At some of those should have been printed. -front gate is a bit undercooked -agree with you the yellow is a bit too jarring. Especially weird as the color grading otherwise is perfect -2 white lines in the 2nd section is just straight up bad. -agree the rock is bad. Too light and kinda unfinished as the set looks very weird from the right side. -interiors feel a bit undercooked to me compared to rivendell. Overall my problem with the set is that it felt like some parts were not thought out fully and others 160%. Still these sound bad but overall i LOVE the set. I do think most of these problems aren’t noticeable most times imo.
Kudos for buying it yourself and not being sponsored by Lego. I can't take those sponsored channels seriously. For me the set is a no-go: a bunch of stickers--placed inside curved pieces, no less, and a jokey interior designed for kid's play instead of adult display. This tower is supposed to be the very locus of evil, not some B&B for orcs with a cozy book nook and dining hall. After the excellence of Rivendell, this one is step backwards.
In the books and movies there was the torture room where they tortured gollum to t6 to find the ring. Where is the torture room?! There’s also another wall at the front they forgot. And also a gate at the back.
I am general public. I bought this set myself in a regular lego store. Paper bags aren’t everywhere yet. I believe for now it’s just europe and asia that have them.
@@BrickBuiltBenny That’s great to read. I’ve yet to purchase a single set with paper bags and I’ve seen a lot of folks saying the same, but most of the RUclips videos of Barad Dur all show paper bags. I sincerely apologize for my initial post reading as flippant and rude; that was not my intent at all. I’ll be more careful next time.
You don't think it's crazy that Rivendell came with like 21 minifigures (Council + the entire Fellowship + 6 grey ''statue'' figures with molds. Whereas Barad Dur barely comes with 10, the Nine ringwraiths of the Nazgul missing completely from what is supposed to be the big evil faction collector's set.
While Rivendell has more figures (you are counting the grey ones too which aren’t truly figs) the Barad dur ones extremely high quality. Sauron and the MoS is super detailed. The problem comes from the fact that Rivendell has more than usual figs and BD has probably usual/little under. Putting two extremes/extreme and the norm next to each other will inevitably generate a gap
It's a scam. All of the sets details are stickers. And it costs like 460€. It is way overpriced for what it offers. For that price you get a cheap smartphone or PC that may be outdated but ist still faster than anything five years ago. Two of these sets equal an old second-hand car. For that price you should get built in Mindstorms omegalul robotics like an Eye of Sauron with Motion Tracking or something. You don't even get proper lighting despite the opportunities with the lava. At the very least, because it is open from one side you don't get a complete zoo of Lego colors, but of course the underside of the base is all rainbows. This should cost 250 € at max and would still be a very expensive set. The way it is now I would not buy it. If anyone really wants a super expensive Lego-LotR set, buy Rivendell or wait because you can be sure they are gonna come up with Minas Tirith, etc. rather soon - PJ is making a new movie, and Lego will milk the cash cow at max.
@@madness9651You’re just a hater, my dude. Sorry to say. It’s a very cool set regardless of your ugly opinion. Don’t listen to this hater y’all. ⚠️ ‼️
I think you underestimate its size. The price is absolutely fine (as far as lego goes). At first I thought it was rather small too, but then I saw it IRL. It’s massive, and nobody can convince me it’s overpriced. You might not like it personally, but that’s a different matter. Lego is selling plastic, and you get the right amount of plastic here.
@@BrickBuiltBenny I do like the design of the set, that's not the problem (besides the stickers. Stickers are atrocious and just shouldn't be in display sets for adults in this price range.) The thing is, this set, despite being huge, is made up from very tiny pieces. 460 € is waay to high. All the licenced products of Lego are waay overpriced, because they know they can count on the fans. There are just certain thresholds. Yeah a lot of smaller sets may offer less for the money spent, but wether I pay 80 Euro for something or 460 is just an insane difference.
Next to orthanc it doesn’t look right. Too short, I know they have it keep it relatively play scale etc but they should’ve made it noticeably taller than their Lego orthanc. Side by side I don’t like how they look
Actually the orcs do uave a dining room if i remember correctly when sam saved frodo from the orcs in return of the king. I may he wrong but its what i remember l.
I'm going to use 2 of the Orc's torsos that the set includes to make custom Frodo and Sam disguises but I agree, that was the biggest disappointment for me

Too much cgi fluff. I'll take Jang's basic unbiased reviews over whatever this is.
This review is the most high quality Lego review I’ve ever seen. As a long time fan of all of your channels, I love this

I mean they are in two completely different places so there's no real incentive to place them side by side.
