    I think the way Lapis reacted to Steven talking about the Gems was an example of her being 'triggered' by something relating to her past trauma. Despite like the internet's annoying use of the word 'triggered' these days (like, it doesn't mean an individual is offended), when it comes to trauma, certain words or something relating to one's trauma can literally trigger a reaction similar to that of Lapis's. You don't necessarily think rationally, you panic, you can't listen properly and in Lapis's case, she literally had a 'flight' reaction (as opposed to a 'fight' reaction) and thought running was the best decision - we see the same thing happen when she flew the barn away after Steven mentioned what happened to him being on homeworld and meeting the diamonds
    Whilst Lapis may not have had a direct link with the Diamonds, I think she equates them with the Gem War (this could be the same reason as to why she feels distant with the Crystal Gems) and dealing with trauma from it (and how it resulted in her being used in the mirror).
    That being said, Lapis IS still making progress with tackling this trauma as we saw in Can't Go Back (even if she got afraid and ran away again). It's all about the approach other characters do. Like, every time Lapis has reacted in such a way, it's because Steven has suddenly said something with no warning, whereas when they were sitting calmly and as you said, 'allowing things to slow down', Lapis actually learns to not only discuss her trauma openly, she also admits how it has made her negatively behave. She's learning and this isn't the last we're gonna see of her :)
    --
    :D anyway, great video! i was excited to see what you had to say and your videos are always a lot more chill (and less salty) compared to other theorists/discussion channels out there lol

      Thank you for that comment! I am an abuse survivor and I do get some "triggers" here and there and when they happen I can't think. Also, abuse and trauma both have a slooooooooow recovery, so she IS progressing but the point of her character (At least partly I think) is to represent the direct after math of trauma, the painful, difficult and ridiculously slow progress.

      Also, Lapis probably has a guilty secret of her own. Perhaps she fears the Diamonds not just because of punishment and their power, but because they'll reveal to Steven that she was on the Earth in the first place *to help destroy it.* After all, "...a Lapis terraforms."
      "I've almost drowned a lot of people."

      Also why does everyone forget that all those other crystal gems really did want to stop living in that society too? Like... Rose didn’t just convince other gems to risk their lives to protect earth just cause SHE wanted out, their lives were hell to. Pink Diamond obviously did have the power herself to change things, none of the other diamonds would listen. Even though her decisions overall ended up working out terribly, it wasn’t out of selfish malice, it was out of desperate rashness. Maybe even some pure hype really.

      No in the flashback/memory pink clearly shows joy over the whole idea, the fact the rebellion was for protecting the earth and liberty for all was secondary, her excitement of trying something else and being someone else, was primary. Her selfishness is outstanding, just because she wants liberty and life for others as well does not make up for that. Instead of directly demanding the Earth be made refuge instead of a colony, she instead orchestrates a rebellion to have fun and not take direct responsibility for her actions and desires. Her selfishness came first and it reveals her to be truly disposable, excellent character design to make her so horrible.

      I think that he was also scared, he's a child and he doesn't really understand why he has thoses visions and the sight of a friend turning on you (That's the imagery he had with Pearl at least), the knowing that something else is hidden about said friend, the fear he probably still has concerning the diamonds... Steven is a child, at his age I wouldn't really have known how to react, I would have probably frozen, making it even worst by the incessant questions of Lapis. It was too late when she began leaving to explain sooo here we are ^^'

    Everyone keeps painting Rose/Pink as selfish. I think there's more to the story and it's more complicated than it looks. There's even been a few comments here that I didn't even think of that are defending Rose, that I've seen for the first time. My own thoughts have been, what if the rebellion was just an accident? Maybe, Pink, disguised as Rose was just trying to figure out what other Gems thought of the hierarchy...you know, a prince and pauper thing, and things just got out of hand as gems were divided in opinion. So, to solve the rebellion, Rose decided that Pink had to lose. But the Diamonds were not satisfied with that and destroyed the remaining gems on earth. Rose was only able to save a handful. Not the greatest theory, but a possibility in which Rose's intentions were still good, if not foolish.

      i think there is a level of selfishness to the charachter but I really wonder if that comes down to age she is designed to look and a ct a lot younger than the other diamonds and acts like a teenager in many ways I can't fully dislike her completely because as you said it could be and probably is more complicated than it looks we don't know the whole story as of yet

    • @Lulu-hk8fz
      @Lulu-hk8fz 6 лет назад +1

      I agree I think she had good intentions. Remember when blue was like as long as you are there the colony will be built. Maybe that was the last straw for her and she felt like she couldn’t be a diamond anymore. Prob didn’t think they would react the way they did.

    • @stephenskinner7207
      @stephenskinner7207 6 лет назад

      See, that MIGHT be a plausible theory, except that this war went on for a thousand years. A thousand. Years. It doesn't matter if it started out as an accident, that was PLENTY of time to back out of it or resolve the situation if Pink weren't absolutely committed to this cause. What's more, that was a thousand years of her lying about her identity to her closest friends and comrades. If Pink had wanted to do the honorable thing, the least she could do was lead the Rebellion AS A DIAMOND. That might have halted the war on Earth right there. But this was clearly just a game to her, and the lives of thousands upon thousands of gems were subordinate to Pink Diamond doing what she wanted to do.

    • @elfiefromangelcity6142
      @elfiefromangelcity6142 6 лет назад

      Stephen Skinner yeah, but how long is a thousand years to a gem? Have to remember that time is viewed differently to practically immortal beings who don't age.

    • @stephenskinner7207
      @stephenskinner7207 6 лет назад

      If you want to take that view, than you have to admit that there's been some massive inconsistency on the part of the writers.Case in point: Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl all look and act significantly younger in Greg's flashbacks, a mere twenty years earlier. The implication is that they've matured a lot in the past twenty years, but stayed the same for the 5,000 years before that. Really? Are we supposed to take that seriously?
      The truth is that gem lifespans and how they view time are completely a matter of convenience on the writer's part. If the plot demands that a gem begin overcoming a traumatic experience mere months after it happened, then they do so. If the plot demands that they still be in mourning THOUSANDS of years after a traumatic event, then they do so. Logic and realism is not a factor in play here.
      There is this massive time abyss in the scale the gems lives that really makes no sense when you think about it. Like how the gems don't understand human society even though they've been living alongside it for FIVE THOUSAND YEARS. They've had more time to observe and study humans than a dozen of the wisest human philosophers put together, yet they still don't understand how a baby works. And mind you, these are supposed to be hyper-intelligent beings, beings who banded together because their leader loved to observe and study and interact with organic life. And yet she still acts nearly as ignorant around humans as Thor does when he comes to Earth. You can make up whatever excuses you want, that doesn't make any sense. That's just lazy writing that ignores continuity for the sake of plot convenience. Are we honestly supposed to believe that out of the hundreds of casual flings Rose Quartz had with humans, Greg was the first one who sincerely loved her and made an effort to reach out to her and teach her to understand humanity? I don't buy that line of reasoning either.
      And here's another thing thing that's really starting to bother me: WHAT HAVE THE GEMS BEEN DOING FOR THE LAST 5000 YEARS? Seriously, why are there still corrupted gems out there when they've literally had five thousand years to hunt them all down? The burning room can't have more than a few hundred specimens in it at most, if that's all they've done for the Earth with the scale of time they've had, that's unpardonable laziness on their part. The earth is overrun by monsters more or less of their creating, but screw it, they've got...stuff...to do. Whatever it is they actually did all day before Steven came around, which given how little they changed, must have been doing nothing while but eating frito lays on the sofa while watching Happy Days reruns.
      Look, here's the bottom line: the timelines of Gem lifespans just don't add up when you consider them logically. At the rate the Crystal Gems were capturing corrupted gem monsters at the beginning of the show, they should have taken care of the problem completely a LONG time ago, especially before there was Steven to divide their attention from that. The Gems have shown dramatic character development over the course of this show, which is a handful of years at most, but they didn't develop at all and stayed static as characters for 5000 years before that. That doesn't work either.
      What I'm saying is, if you want to say that 1000 ISN'T enough time to back out of a war that you didn't want to be in in the first place because gems view time differently, that's an excuse of convenience and you know it is.

      Adrian SH Pink Diamond was selfish in that she couldn't tell her closest friends that she fought and lived with for thousands of years who she really was and where she came from. She lied to them and used her fake persona to inspire them to follow her. Even after the war when there were only the four of them left she refused to tell them anything near the truth. Garnet still thought she was made on Earth. Pink made Pearl shoulder all that responsiblity for the corruption attack alone. Pearl wasn't even able to tell Pink's own son about who his mom really was and what she really did.

    • @ChairyCrasher
      @ChairyCrasher 6 лет назад +3

      +Christie Weyapuk Maybe she lied, because she thought the crystal gem hated all diamonds. What if she tried to what she wanted with the world, but the other diamonds couldnt let them. Why did Pink Diamond lie? Why did Pink Diamond fake her own death? Those are the questions we need to answer. Pink diamond likes earth and wants to live on earth with other humans. Is that selfish?

      @@christieweyapuk3413 if she came to them as a diamond they wouldn't listen. she was already the runt among diamonds and they are known for their tyrannical rule so even if the diamonds didn't catch her doing such a thing either:
      A) they didn't listen and assume she's just as bad as the diamonds
      B)even if they did listen, a gem made to serve yellow/white/blue could find out about the plan and rat her out.

    This is for the people who say that Pink Posing as Rose Quartz just made things worse, and her not confronting the Diamonds as A Diamond in an attempt to fight homeworld. Not so simple. Yellow and Blue likely would've tried to intervene. Plus, we still dont know White Diamonds stance. I doubt they would let Pink break a trillion year old tradition of preservation for their race, just cause Pink fell in love with her 1st colony, which in comparison to the other planets in the diamond murals, is fairly small. They would sooner subdue Pink, and destroy the earth entirely. The results honestly woulda been the same. Create a rebellion as a Rose Quarts.. lose tons of gems, but cause the Diamonds to retreat thinking they could TOO be shattered. Or... create a rebellion as a Diamond, and risk the whole planet being trashed, and then likely never trusted to colonize a planet ever again.. and living the rest of ur life under watchful eyes. And all the gems that assisted in your rebellion being shattered with no hope of survival. What's the worse circumstance? Think about this as a human. Pink's choices saved the planet earth PERIOD. Yes, many gems died, but had the Diamonds not retreated there would be no Beach City, cause the earth woulda been destroyed 5000 yrs ago. Yea, feelings are hurt, Pearl suffered, and gems were corrupted, but in the bigger picture, the earth was saved.

    • @white0thunderwhite0thunder71
      @white0thunderwhite0thunder71 6 лет назад +12

      Good point, here's another. Which would you have done yourself? Fighting homeworld gems as well as your former subjects with probably a couple dozen rouge gems as a rebel leader OR taking a stand as a Diamond saying that this is YOUR planet, YOUR colony, and YOU will decide what's best for it and if the other Diamonds don't like it, you have an ENTIRE planet of gens loyal to their Diamond ready to fight to the death for you. Plus if Yellow and Blue Diamond loved their sister as much as their collective actions have shown us then they would NOT have wanted to come to blows with her, meaning they would have been stubborn about where they stood but they still would have talked with Pink and probably have come to an understanding with each other. Their greatest example of affection for Pink Diamond was what happened after she was killed. Pink was right in thinking that her murder would have released the Earth from the Diamond's control, without a ruler there was no colony so it was logical for them to leave rather than use up precious resources maintaining a lost cause, but she made one fatal mistake... She believed they never cared about her but that just wasn't true. Yellow and Blue continued the fight out of vengeance, they wanted payback against their sister's murderer and they were gonna burn the earth to the ground to do it. They won the war, the only reason the planet still stood was because the Diamonds believed that they wiped the Crystal Gems out of existence and were gonna use the husk of this dead planet to create a Geoweapon and complete their revenge. They never suspected that the organic life that Pink Diamond loved so much was so stubborn and enduring that the earth thrived again after its abandonment... Along with three surviving Crystal Gems.

    • @Uri_Mercury
      @Uri_Mercury 6 лет назад +9

      white0thunder white0thunder My only thing with this is that even if Pink faught with ALL the gems of earth against homeworld.. do you REALLY feel her army alone could stand against Yellow, Blue, AND white diamonds forces? And you also have to consider, it would be NOTHING for The diamonds to use the corruption blast to wipe her forces out, then subdue her. It was necessary to use the shattering as a symbol of intimidation. A Diamond has NEVER been shattered. So that created a sense of mortality in the Diamonds they never felt b4. Now what I WILL say is.. one thing we DONT know is how extensive Pinks healing abilities are just yet. If she can use a mass healing wave for corruption, and cure shattered Gems, then its OVER! She'd have an immortal army. But we still dont know what White can do yet either..

    • @white0thunderwhite0thunder71
      @white0thunderwhite0thunder71 6 лет назад +8

      Another good point... Now here's another. Why did they come to earth to begin with? Because Pink Diamond whined and cried that she wanted a world for herself, so to stop her bitchin, Yellow and Blue gave her control over her first planet to convert into a new colony. Something small and within Pink Diamond's abilities as far as Yellow and Blue were concerned... Far off from the empire... Insignificant... only good for making basic soldiers and workers to be used on far more important planets that either have boundless resources or powerful civilizations that need to be conquered before colonization can begin. The earth was pretty much a throw-away planet to the Diamonds mean't to shut Pink Diamond up so the rest of them can get back to work. Does that sound like a planet worth fighting for save those who live upon it? It's the same reason why the Crystal Gems were able to force Homeworld to abandon the planet at the end of the war, they wanted to win far more than their attackers. The Diamonds understood this so rather than spend anymore resources and soldiers on a losing war, they decided to just toss the game onto the floor like a petulant child and wipe the world clean of its pests. If the empire is as logical as Yellow Diamond made it out to be when we first met her then they would have realized that a full scale war over such a mundane planet was not only financially irresponsible, but it would lead to the loss of many gems on both sides of the war that would be better placed on planets with FAR greater worth. You start a war, you find it gets costly in MANY ways... Ways that are best avoided by everyone doing what they should have been doing from the very beginning, SIT DOWN AND TALK!!! Teenage rebellion is far more tolerable than outright treason leaving billions dead over principle. Plus if the Diamond beam was nothing to the Diamonds then why didn't they do it at the beginning of the war? Just pull all the loyalists off the planet, Beam the earth, then kill the monsters afterward and get on with business... Sounds like a quicker solution than sending millions of soldiers off to die for thousands of years with NOTHING to show for it.

    I agree with pretty much everything that you said. Thank you for this video. I do think that in time (after a very LONG time) Rose came to realize how selfish she had been as far as the war was concerned, but she dealt with it by being even more selfish and disappearing. And I don't think that she ever realized just what she did to Pearl. I think that the show is going to deal with this selfish streak, especially because they've been leading up to it for a very long time. Showing Pink throwing her temper tantrum, showing us how deeply heartbroken and damaged Yellow and Blue are by her death (then later showing how Pink thinks that they don't care about anything but themselves), the human zoo, not taking Greg's feelings into account at ALL when they first started dating, etc...all of this leads me to believe that these issues have been meant to be addressed from the beginning.

    Lovely video! I will point out rose didn't start this war just because she didn't want to be a diamond. As we know from jungle moon, to be a proper diamond with a colony was all she wanted. She started this war because she fell in love with the earth. She was trying to save it from herself. And screwed a lot of gems over to do so

    Kinda skipped over a few steps there to get to the conclusion that Pink was selfish and bad. Yeah, she begged for a colony. And when she got to Earth, she saw the beauty in organic life. And it was her job to DESTROY IT. In Can’t Go Back, we hear from Blue herself, that Pink tried a minimum to two times to abandon the colony without subterfuge, for noble reasons. To no destroy organic life. To not dismantle human settlements. Everything she did, from the very beginning was to save Earth.
    But the other Diamonds didn’t let her. She still wasn’t an equal, and, being a Diamond means to lead in a specific way (just like all gems). “Don’t create new gems because it’ll kill the flowers” is not a valid excuse to the Diamonds. She created the rebellion only after her first attempts failed. And, she waged that war on her own for a still undisclosed amount of time, trying to create an excuse to abandon the colony. Now, think about that. What kind of fighting do think was involved with Pink led forces, and Rose led rebels? Remember the Famithysts, those fun loving goofballs who immediately disobeyed their superiors to help the Crystal Gems escape the Zoo? Do you think Pink was having them shatter Crystal Gems?
    But when she tired to abandon the colony again, Blue and Yellow stepped in to assist. She even tried to scare Blue off in the Answer. The war escalated. Gems were shattered, their shards made into the cluster under Yellow. Pink lost control of the situation. One last time she begged to just leave. And again, Blue said no. It was only then did she fully give up on being a Diamond.
    I’m not saying she didn’t make mistakes, and her failures did have major consequences. But painting her as this uncaring, selfish manipulator, is ignoring a lot of established details. She tried, and ultimately succeeded, in saving humanity. She tried to give others gems a choice in their role in life, something she wished she had herself. It seems that up until the end, she would had to have left Earth as a Diamond, if she had succeeded. A Diamond who failed in her colony. She was actually willing to take a major hit to her status, and trust from the other Diamonds, to save Earth. Only after she failed, did she finally decide to stage her own death.

    • @sisssyj1
      @sisssyj1 6 лет назад +3

      Yes she saved the Earth but during the rebellion her love of humans wasn't that strong, at best she liked them as pets. She was inspired by humans to try to live her life the way she wanted but at a great cost to homeworld. I don't feel that her actions were 100% for humanity because it's not until she fell with Greg that she began to respect humans. To me Pink's actions were like her trying to uphold to the diamond authority but doing it her own way. Because at the end of day Pink is a diamond and she's still trying to fit into her role and gain the approval of the other diamonds. That's why she built the human zoo in the first place. She wanted to preserve life and still colonize without causing too much harm to Earth. Pink was selfish as she didn't want the responsibilities of diamond and decided to become RQ instead to escape. The CGs ideology is now is question as they're leader didn't really form the CGs because of freedom, love, or be themselves but to escape their duties. You can't attain those things if you're lying to yourself and others.

    • @sisssyj1
      @sisssyj1 6 лет назад +3

      Pink wanted the ability to colonize Earth her way but as you said, Yellow and Blue wouldn't allow it. She didn't want to destroy her precious colony so she thought a rebellion would dissuade the Diamonds in meddling in her affairs but she was wrong. The war escalated beyond her control and now she's regretting everything she did.

    • @xBrii333x
      @xBrii333x 6 лет назад +3

      This is my opinion, as well. I see it more as, Pink had been talked down to and treated like a child for who even knows how many centuries, so when she finally tried to speak up and get them to stop, it was seen as childish behavior from what essentially boiled down to parents not wanting to accept a teenager's or young adult's change in perspective and opinion. As spoiled behavior, which she had always been prone to. So when she started to grow up and see things in a different light and want things to change, it was just another tantrum. They didn't take her seriously, so she created her own naive, optimistic solution and it spiraled out of her control. She didn't realize she actually meant something to Blue and Yellow diamond, she thought that she was just a burden on them and that they wouldn't care about anything other than the loss of a colony. So she tried to make the crystal gems seem more like a threat, by orchestrating her own "shattering," so the diamonds wouldn't want to waste their resources on it. It makes sense, if you look at it from the point of view of someone with low self-worth trying to come up with their own flawed solution for injustice. It hurt people, and it was selfish, but she didn't think she could find another solution.

    Steven must be even more stressed than the other Gems after this revelation. First, her friend Pencil flees twice. Second, his mother lied to everyone, including his father Greg and Steven himself, pretending to be Rose Quartz. Third, he's very confused because if all he knew about Rose Quartz was a lie then it's a lie too. Fourth, Perola kept this a secret from everyone, even her friends letting the lie of Rose Quartz drag on for thousands of years. Finally, this shocking development is causing the team to collapse. How can a child handle all this? We're going to have to wait weeks for the next episode, I'm anxious for a thousand!

    I blame steven. Not a lack of her progress. It's difficult to completely change how you think and feel. It doesn't
    Happen from a song or episode.
    But she did show improvement. And she did ask several times what he meant and what's happening. She knows his dream powers are real and can connect with gems. It's understandable that she was scared. I would be more annoyed if she stayed after his refusal to clarify anything, for literally no reason

    • @user-ip3mm6pr7o

      Lapis is a favorite. I never really liked pearl much. But as the story goes on, I line rose less and less. I began to really dislike her back in bismuth. I guess now we know why she's scared to shatter the elites directly and lessen the damage to the common gems that are also commonly shattered in thousands of years of war. She's more personally attached than she ever could be too bismuth or anyone else really.
      Peridot, amethyst, and sapphire are favorites too.
      Its weird how rose just decides to change her entire gem, appearance, identity, and everything, but then talks about how weird it is that humans can change. But also that she did that at least twice. I guess because she didn't want to remember anymore? Idek at this point.
      I still wanna know why amethyst never loses food when she poofs, how you can shapeshift indefinitely, and how the hell you control the orientation of your gem but can't modify its location or color.

      Fox Maybe becuase when Amethyst eats she shapeshifts a stomach to digest it so maybe her gem considers her food goop as part of her form? Otherwise its just plot convinence. As for Pink being able to flip her gem around I don't like it. It is just an intentional misdirection.

    • @christieweyapuk3413
      @christieweyapuk3413 6 лет назад +1

      Fox Also I feel like her being able to stay constantly shapeshifted is either because 1) she doesn't and she retreats to her room or somewhere secret to be in her normal form 2) when she was poofed she chose to reform in the shape of Rose instead of Pink or 3) she can stay shapeshifted a lot longer becuase she is a diamond.

    Everything makes sense now why Rose Quartz was so powerful she wasn't a Rose Quartz she was a Diamond PINK DIAMOND and I can understand everything now everything she has done Rose Quartz/Pink Diamond wanted a colony She wanted to prove to the other Diamonds that she was a equal to the other Diamonds but when she got a colony it really didn't change anything the other Diamonds still treated her the same the other Diamonds treated her unfairly she hated her life as a Diamond she wanted to be free from her life and duties as a Diamond and truly be happy in her life but because the other Diamonds would never change how they treated Rose Quartz/Pink Diamond cause she would always be treated different cause she was a defective small Diamond and she was treated like a small child who the other Diamonds would never respect or take seriously and on top of that Rose Quartz/Pink Diamond fell in love with the earth humans and all the other creatures on earth and didn't want to destroy it cause she loved it why would she wanna destroy something she loved but the other Diamonds didn't care how Rose Quartz/Pink Diamond felt about what was gonna happen to the earth when it becomes a complete gem colony she didn't even have a say on what she could do with her own colony cause the other Diamonds wanted the earth cause it was unique and special Rose Quartz/Pink Diamond had to make a plan she made a alter ego ROSE QUARTZ she shape shifted into and she started a 1000 year war a rebellion to try to drive the other Diamonds away from the earth to save it but it didn't work it was not enough cause as long as Rose Quartz/Pink Diamond is alive the colony would be complete and the earth destroyed so Rose Quartz/Pink Diamond had no choice she had to fake her own death to save the earth and it worked the Homeworld Gems and the other Diamonds fled and the earth was saved. But now look Rose Quartz/Pink Diamond wasn't perfect she not good or bad but everything she ever did was to protect the earth to protect her planet Earth🌏🌍🌎🌸

You put everything inside a box locked up inside yourself and keep a together facade but if you dare to look at that box it's like picking open a scab and memories or worries start leaking out, so you bury things under layers. I felt the same way, its not really progress when you take a step forward and then 3 steps back in the span of a few minutes so she hasn't really made progress at all until she decides she's ready to go home or at least face her fear of the diamonds without running at just hearing their names, till then Lapis has made zero progress imo or 0.1% at least based on her time on earth and forgiving Peridot but nothing more than that, its all been regression since then

    • @rosemaryam1983
      @rosemaryam1983 6 лет назад +3

      It's progress because she's actually addressing her issues. She clearly has the gem equivalent of PTSD related to being a prisoner of war. On top of that, she knows what Steven's dream powers usually mean and the last time he unintentionally used them that was unrelated to humans, a diamond was on earth. Although she was clearly triggered, she did try to ask Steven what was wrong and if they were nearby. He simply didn't clarify what he saw other than it was the diamonds. I'm sure had he explained that it was a glimpse into the past she would have eventually calmed down.

    Why were they all shadows? Why didn't he see things from a diamond's perspective? Why did he see Pear armed, walking up behind Pink? We know now that's not how it happened (not in that point of time) so it seems more like an abstract vision than a memory. Why's that?

    There was no other way for Pink/Rose to make sure the earth would not become a colony. But she had no idea what the diamonds would/could do. She just wanted to enjoy the earth, and help all gems see actual beauty. It's not black and white. She isn't bad. She did what she thought was best. Yes, people died, but Pink's message was the same as rose's, their ideology. I think it's safe to assume that blue and yellow diamond were the ones containing the insurgency because blue said "all you have to do is smile and wave" so she couldn't have done it as pink. She needed to created the rose persona

    Ahh this review is really amazing! I just discovered your channel and your videos are one of the best Steven universe related content. And yeah I totally agree with you on both episodes. I’m disappointed that Lapis left again. I remember her being one of my favorite characters in the show but since she barely appears I’ve lost a lot of interest in her. That episode really regained my interest back in her and reminded me why I liked her originally. Sadly she left again and I feel like her character hasn’t made any progress at all.
    The Rose and Pink Diamond reveal was a surprise for me but for the same reason you mentioned in the video. I think the reason I’m not a big fan of the reveal is because it may negate all of the arc where Steven was trying to come to terms with rose and her past mistakes. I also think there was a lot of lost potential with the fact if they went with rose killing Pink. I didn’t hate the reveal. I still think it was pretty fun to watch but I wish the show didn’t have so many filler episodes before they showed the reveal. It may have made the reveal more justifiable.
    Anyway great review! It’s one of my favorite reviews and can’t wait to see more of Season 5 and your thoughts!

    I don't get why people are so upset over the whole "Pink Diamond is Rose Quartz" thing. I think it actually is a good thing and adds a whole new layer to Rose/PD as a PERSON. Well, not person, but you get what I mean. She's not perfect, she was just trying to save Earth the only way she knew how. Talking to Blue and Yellow didn't help, we saw that in 'Can't go back'. So she did what she thought would benefit both her AND Earth in the long run. She just didn't consider that Blue and Yellow actually cared for her enough to corrupt the other gems out of spite.

    Honestly I got to say it surprises me how many people turn against Rose, or at least call her a bad person in some manner once we learn she is really pink diamond. You can't look at it as that simple. Nothing is ever that black-and-white. Pink was basically a child, she didn't really know what she was doing. Yes she caused a lot of pain and suffering, but nobody can never guess the long-term consequences for their actions. If anything this whole situation make me feel sorry for, doesn't mean that if I had the chance I wouldn't reprimand the hell out of her. But I'm not against her as an individual. And really here is one of my favorite old saying that describes the situation perfectly, "The Road To Hell Is Paved With Good Intentions" and frankly this just makes everything way more interesting. It makes me wonder if there's even the smallest possibility of peace with the Home-world.

    i feel the scriptor just dont know what to do with lapis and that why she is trow aways all the time after all her power is strong
    i dont think pink tough everything would gone that wrong in the end and acusing her of dumping everything on steven is a big exageration she love greg or at less that what the episode made us tough i think she grew up a bit from her childish self after the war but the base of the character is rather a naive fellow like the time she helped with greg gardening one of his friend baby but took him up a great wheel she dont have much common sense but she is maybe the most human diamon emotionnally

    "just because she didn't want to be a diamond" Why is everyone forgetting she saved the human race and fought for marginalized gems? That's WHY she didn't want to be a diamond.

    At first I suspected Rose being Pink Diamond and that she rebelled against the others. Until I heard that Pink was shattered by Rose Quartz but to realize she created the Rose Quartz persona to fight a war against herself. That is callous and selfish millions of Gems died. Millions od Gems were corrupted. Human civilization was destroyed. All because Pink didn't have the courage to run the colony like she wanted.

      You do know that Pink Diamond wasn't the only one that wanted out of he mold of gem society, right? Take Bismuth for example, and Garnet. The Crystal Gems followed Rose/Pink because they felt the same way she did. All Rose/Pink did was lead them. She didn't manipulate gems into following her, gems followed her because they wanted out of the mold as well.

      Running the colony would have destroyed the Earth, genius.

    • @clairemercer3099
      @clairemercer3099 6 лет назад

      Not if she put her foot down. Saving Earth aside doesn't it creep you out that she manipulated the Gems around her in a pointless war.

    • @tpfw01
      @tpfw01 6 лет назад

      What makes you think she hasn't tried? Literally in this same episode we saw her trying to talk to the other diamonds but they were silencing her. As a young diamond and with this being her first colony, they were never going to take her seriously.
      It's so easy to say Rose manipulated them when you forget her message and how she inspired the gems to be who they want to be. This "pointless" war was not only to save the Earth, but also for the gems' freedom to be who they want to be. Did she lie to them? Yes. But was it with bad intentions? Heck no.

    • @clairemercer3099
      @clairemercer3099 6 лет назад

      Yes and they were all corrupted because of her double life, I would have respected her if she led the rebellion under her own name but she didn't. Instead she created a persona and hid from her responsibilities. After the war she did very little. Where are the Gem hospitals for the corrupted? Instead they are bubbled away along with any prisoners of war forgotten,
      Until I see actual evidence of a mature effort to convince the Diamonds to run the colony her way, my opinion stands.
