You’re a rebel Rob, doing a video on your favorite female artists on Father's Day. You’ve inspired me to do a video about artists who were married but split up, on Valentines Day. 😜 Good job! ✌🏻
Thanks for the video. Looks like I have some more artists to check out. One artist that I unfortunately only discovered about a year ago is Katie Melua. She is fantastic!
Rob, a great entry! Kathleen Edwards' "I Make the Dough, You Get the Glory" is the song that made me aware of her a number of years ago, and off and on I hear her played on the radio here in CT. Will look into that newest release. Every Canadian VC channel loves that Amanda Marshall! On the list. Grace Potter, Highwomen (have that also), Bangles all great, and of course I am right there with you on Linda Ronstadt. Thanks for taking the time to put the video together and mention my channel. Have added yours to my channel playlist, and have been enjoying your videos and Weds night live streams for a while now. Thanks again! Ed😎
I need to get into Whitehorse. I think you'd really like Mandolin Orange, great husband and wife harmonies. You still need to check out Emily Nenni too, or Kacey Musgraves.
I was a huge fan of the girl groups, The Bangles and The Go-Go's back in the '80's, during their initial runs. I preferred The Go-Go's. The Toronto girl group The Beaches remind me so much of those '80's groups. That's too bad about Grace Potter And The Nocturnals. They were such a great band!
Linda Ronstadt was the first female singer who caught my attention, back in early 1981. I saw her appearance on "The Muppet Show" and a re-airing of her 1980 HBO concert. And I was smitten! She remained my favorite female singer until Mariah Carey superseded her in 1993. I was amazed at Mariah's vocals on her 1993 NBC Thanksgiving TV special. And her cover of the Badfinger/ Harry Nilsson song, "Without You" was a big favorite of mine. It was actually the first time I remember hearing it. Those two remained on top, till Taylor Swift took over second place in early 2023. And Taylor is nipping at Mariah's heels for my #1 female singer. Mariah better release more albums. ha! I think Mariah Carey and Taylor Swift have the best and most consistent song catalogs for a female artist. Some have better albums, like "Blue" by Joni Mitchell, but I think those two are the most consistent, album for album.
Nice selection of artists. I read that they are making a biopic about Ronstadt starring Selena Gomez. As far as classic's go, I'd have to have Joan Jett on my list, just because she's good at lifting the spirits. More recently I really liked the album "Bewitched" by Laufey, which came out last fall and won the grammy for best traditional pop artist this year. This year "Driftless Girl" by Gray DeLilse has been the one I've listened to the most.
Making notes here. Skye Wallace - need to listen! Kathleen Edwards… okay… Will give her an ear. Amanda Marshal! Yes! I was trying to remember her. Thanks, Rob! I gotta check out this one. The goods keep coming! Grace Potter and the Nocturnals? On the list! I checked out some Whitehorse. I actually liked the French album best after the first listen to their albums.
I think your explanation of Amanda Marshall is spot on! As I told you before I think her voice could be explained as if Sheryl Crow and Susanna Hoff had a baby! And yes, I love the song, dark horse and sitting on top of the world!

The French album eh? Interesting. Its a partial rework of their The Fate of the World Depends on This Kiss.
