Nice to see a drummer interview by a guy who knows what he's talking about and isn't annoying about it. Matt really changed the game for a lot of kids aspiring to play heavy music. Innovator
Man I was so stoked hearing that there was gonna be a Drum Rundown series! But am also stoked on how good Jarrad is a host too. Kudos my friend! also having Kellii Scott featured so early made my day. Well Done!!
Dude, this is just another reminder of why I respect the shit outta Matt Greiner. He just oozes dedication to going all in on the drum kit. Always super clean and disciplined, but the parts always feel really good to listen to, and you can tell he put the time in to make it so. Some drummers will use all of that energy to make the most complex, fastest, hard to play songs to set themselves apart; MG seems to focus way more on finding the best drum parts for the songs to set the songs apart. It's super inspirational.
Huge pet peeve as a drummer. If they’re both miked, awesome. I love the sound of two separate kicks. I hate going to a show and seeing two kicks with a connecting rod peeking out from in between. What is the point of hiding what your other leg is doing behind a dummy kick?!
I can easily put that snare into words- shitty. 😂 The snare wires are waaaaay too loose/ bottom head is too loose, something is going on there I don't like personally, but I imagine it may be triggering a snare sound live, at least a small mix. Maybe not. Also imagine paying $4-5,000 for dw collectors and then they sound like that. Insane. Great video!
I mean the general quality of the audio on this video isn't a great example of what a snare drum sounds like through two guys lav mics. That DW Collectors Brass is a very fine drum, same specs as the OG Tama Bell Brass. Check out the drummers anonymous video of Matt playing and you'll see mixed well it's a very different story.
I blame copious amounts of coffee, lol. We had already hung with Matt chatting for an hour before the Rundown, went to get more coffee, and we always get coffee on the way...LMAO.
It's just the snare that's bugging me, it sounds horribly loose Edit: ok nah the toms sound horrible too. I posted my initial comment about the snare during the intro of the vid, not hearing the toms on their own
Holy crap I thought I was the only one who notices! I get that they sound good when you hit hard, but they ONLY sound good when you hit hard and sound like trash otherwise. And I love Matt

Been doing it for years. Makes my kit balanced looking and doubles the wow factor. As a performer live people go SEE a band play. One kick to mix, one mic to buy, less $100 drumheads to buy, Guitarists line up full stacks up and down the stage and mic one speaker since forever.
He blew out the reso head on his snare? Holy mackerel! I've been playing for 33 years, and never done that myself, or even heard of that happening to anyone til now. Dude must hit like a damn sledgehammer!
Only reso head I’ve ever broken was a kick drum, I was coming in from -1 degree outside to extreme hot inside setup and sound check in under 40mins. Another drummer lost 2 tops and a bottom that night..

Thanks for the kind words! Matt is definitely one of my favorites of all time! Changed the game forever!
Matt is a monster on the kit but an absolute sweetheart!
seriously, the nicest dude!
Crazy to think these guys have been together over 20 years now
Without a doubt the best posture in the game 💪
Game of inches is correct, back in the magazine days I read that and man - game changer ever since.
Still better than st anger

Aw, you are too kind! Thanks so much for watching and supporting. I agree, I am VERY lucky to have hit so many great drummers right outta the gate!

Yep Thrill Seeker literally changed the game. Matt is the man, love it!

0:20 Provision!! Let's go!!
I just found your channel and loved what I saw. Thank you for sharing your experience with us.
Awesome, glad you dig it!
what a great guy.
Ayyye, here we go.
4:23 but wait, he used to have the China and ride switched back in the day.
So the second bass drum is pure looks
yep! one mic-ed up, rockin a dw 9000 double kick.
Its a must! Especially for big stages like ABR
Yes, like more and more metal drummers do today.
Best of both worlds, and the sound guy's happy too!

Double kick drums are looking ausome its fits his style hail yeah!!!!

A frequency cage fight 🤣 This is th3 most I've heard you talk on one of these.

@@drumrundown 😂 all good, brother
@@drumrundown hahaha drummers love coffee! I just got a cup! In Oregon playing a metal fest today, warming up with this video 😂
What is he using to adapt the cymbal stands into mic holders?
There are adapters made by DW and also by Gibraltar, look them up online
Dw. Black nickel over brass
The worlds best snare drum
Imo❤
⚡️🤘⚡️
What are the drum sizes?
10,14,16
The heads on the toms are G2 clears, not EC2s
good catch!
Wrong
@Matt …was curious about why you don’t play your own Truth brand drums? Just curious
He was prob pretty stoked to get with dw. Id make that trade. Not sure on the legals on all that though
He had a sponsorship with Truth then got a sponsorship with DW. Not that hard to comprehend lol
You got to love some FlaMental; Metal played with castanets instead double kick.
Matt such a cool guy and drummer and too simple a guy for a band like August Burns Red
I love Matt as a drummer, but I must say those drums sound pretty bad almost like they just put the heads on them and are out of tune.
It's just the snare that's bugging me, it sounds horribly loose

I didn't love the snare sound too. Toms are not bad at all for me. I think what we heard was the processing of the drumset mix through the soundboard.
I think when he hit the toms it played over the microphone of the camera
They’re tuned for the mics…tuned for FOH to do their thing… I doubt he’d tune em the same in his living room…
That snare was still better than st anger
OPE. #FIRST
😂😂
Amazing drummer. 😎🤟🏻

Powerchord on the toms lol
Don’t get me wrong I love Matt! But has a double bass drum set and continues to use a double kick…anyone else confused??
He mentioned he prefers the balanced the look of the kit, but likes the consistency in sound of playing one drum!
A dummy secondary bass drum, c’mon maaaaaaan!!! Haha
More control playing, and only mic-ing one drum! But form over function, two bass drums looks sick, and balances out that kit!

@@drumrundown yeah i totally get it. Pedal feel on two singles is better however imo.
Also a great way to have a spare kick when blowing out the main kick head
What about the elephant in the room?
2 bass drums and a double pedal....
which is just two bass drums and two pedals, really. just one less microphone 🤷🏼♀️
2nd bass drum is just for looks

He does hit rather hard. I had a snare, it's was a 13x7 maple ocdp and my wires fell off, puresound custom pro.
Most common way this happen is if your snare wires happen to have a piece of a wire sticking out that punctures the head.
@@drew_on_drums I play a maple 13x7" too, Pork Pie w/puresound twisted. :)
@@KimFilppudrummer Oh yeah, that'd do it for sure!
Only reso head I’ve ever broken was a kick drum, I was coming in from -1 degree outside to extreme hot inside setup and sound check in under 40mins. Another drummer lost 2 tops and a bottom that night..
Snare sounds terrible like it’s falling apart.
Get rid of the other bass drum....lame
