@@ScenecrlyK.S.O. YES but they are just so well crafted and executed that I found myself actually excited (and scared) to watch each new movie. I remember being so scared to watch this when it came out at Blockbuster. My parents and I sat down and watched it after dinner and as shocked as I was throughout (you never forget the garage scene and the opening), I was hooked. Just a completely differently presentation for a horror film. Wes Craven/Kevin Williamson do an amazing job weaving commentary about the genre in the dialougue.
The sequel has a great story behind it, as it was one of the first big script leaks that forced the Wes/Kevin to reconfigure the killers and ending.
Everyone in Hollywood at the time was fighting to be feature in the film.
The 3rd has more humor added and considerably less violence, as the studio made the decision to scale back based on Columbine. Still a great addition.
4th and 5th do a great job refreshing and continuing the legacy.
Having a horror movie entangled with a "whodunit" twist and that references the genre itself is refreshing. I hope one day to be sitting comfy watching you figure out the killers as you continue on with your Scream journey (at your own pace, of course!)

This is my favorite horror film. So much fun, clever writing, but still scary when it needs to be.
I feel so bad saying this, cos I hate jumpscares, but this was one of the funniest reactions I have ever seen!

@@ScenecrlyK.S.O. I was quite frightened, but I am basically Randy, and so was able to enjoy it more for its post-modern take. Plus, when it was released, I was studying about films that suffered censorship or withdrawal for excessive violence, so I had seen faaaaar worse! There´s actually a scene in Scream 2 that frightened me more! I love both films. I hosted the Scottish premiere of Scream 3, and we showed the whole trilogy. As I hosted the third one, I was "killed" by Ghostface in front of the audience (all previously planned and rehearsed, obviously). Lots of fun!

why i love this movie is because it is a satire on horror movies while being one at the same time. it also is considered a meta horror film because it is so self aware of its self.
Yeah, it’s such a great homage to 70’s/80’s slasher films & all their tropes.
It was a well made who done it but also clever and cool.
*Fun Fact:* Courtney Cox and David Arquette (who played Gale Weathers and Dewy) actually got married shortly after this movie was released.
Seeing this in my sub box made me so happy I love Scream so much.

Believe it or not when it comes to slasher movies, Scream is actually on the tamer side. There are far more horrific slasher movies out there to watch.
I think older ones were for sure, Scream tried to be classy in a way, I think this is why I love it that much not being into gore myself.
I agree, Scream is a Hollywood slasher film.
There are countless gorier slashers, but SCREAM is far more suspenseful and genuinely tense than most.
@@robertr798 It's quite a good movie and at the time it was refreshing to have a slasher film, that wasn't a straight to video release. It has some genuinely tense moments. Probably in my personal Top 20 horror films. I think that it's let down by the "How to survive a horror movie" theme. Critics latched onto that as fact, regardless of those rules not applying to the majority of slasher films released up until then, even ignoring that Scream itself was laughing at the same tropes then using them. So, by being championed by critics who actually hated slasher films, Scream hasn't been seen in as good a light as it should be, I think anyways...

I know a lot of people think that it's Billy on the phone with Casey, but the line "it'll be fun" when talking about playing the trivia game seems more geared towards Stu since he thought of the whole thing like a game and also echoes his line later in the movie: "Watch a few movies, take a few notes. It was fun."

I laughed when you said someone told you The Thing was scarier. I didn't find that film remotely scary. Scream, however, is the only film I've ever found to be scary. Great reaction.

I am glad you reacted to this. It's my favorite horror film and my second favorite film in general. I hope you react to the sequels as well. In terms of scariness, they are about the same. So you know what to expect. The thing that makes Scream so much better than any other horror franchise is the writing. The characters are great and fun, the lines are perfect, but it's still scary. I also really love that Ghostface is real: he falls down, he misses the target, and he (they) can be killed. Michael and all those other ones are always coming back to life even when they are supposed to be human.
Sidney is amazing. That's one badass woman right there.

This is a horror movie about horror movies. Wes Craven, who directed this and some of the Nightmare on Elm Street movies, plays the janitor in this.

There are so many Easter eggs and cool references in this that I won't bore you. But this set the benchmark for self-aware horror in the 90s-2000s. So well done. Please watch 13 Ghosts or Ghostship for another good one.

I’ve seen Scream HUNDREDS of times and NEVER realized they incorporated the Halloween and Friday the 13th themes into the score/sound design for those respective scenes.
classics. it has everything: drama, horror, comedy, plot twists ... And Drew Barrymore is doing the best performance of his career.

this movie came out the year I was born watched it and scream 2 by the time I was 3 and scream 3 I got to watch and have in the VCR collection at 4 years of age. Saw the 4th in theaters and the new Scream comes out 2 days before my birthday! No better birthday present than the next installment of a movie series I was born and raised on.
Such a great movie. Saw it in the theaters and had a blast. I don’t find it scary but I love horror so it never scares me.

I suggest you react to "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" (1974). It's kinda filmed in a documentary way which makes you feel like you are there or it really happened. That movie is the movie that started many of the horror movie trends. It's the most realistic. I love watching horror movies and pretty much never jump or tense up while watching them, but when I watched "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" (1974) it brought out the biggest reactions from me. You should really watch that one.

The reporter Gail and Dewey actually married IRL (the reporter asking how does it feel was Linda Blair from The Exorcist,The janitor was the director Wes Craven who also did Nightmare on Elm Street and the Principal Henry Winkler from TVs Happy Days)and had a daughter CoCo and later divorced.
Now you have to watch Scream 2, 3 & 4 cause Scream 5 comes in January 2022 😁

This is my favorite scary movie. It’s quite shocking when you’ve not been desensitized to what horror is today. For its time, it was pretty intense. I saw this for this first time when I was barely 12 years old lol. Everything now is gore for the sake of gore. This film is true horror.

Scream is actually somewhat based on a true story as well. The writer was inspired by a series of home invasions where several college students were murdered by a serial killer . He was coined the Gainesville reaper.
