I know it's hard, but stay true to yourselves, keep making, and squeeze every drop of living you can out of bad days and dark times: that's all anyone can do. So keep it up you two; we're all in this together.
I like to retreat from the drama of the real world by watching this guy on RUclips make things. He’s kinda goofy and LOVES sanding things. Like LOVES sanding for real, it’s what he does nearly every video. It’s like sanding is his happy place. He should change his channel to Punished Sanding.
This reminds me of what I did for carrying my utility knife in college. I needed a way to keep it on me in the workshop during class and one day when I was just wandering around town I ended up finding an Airsoft ammo pouch that slid right over my belt that fit the folded up knife perfectly! I was mocked partially at first, but after the fifth person or so lost their's when it fell off the bench or disappeared under materials, they started to see why it was useful. Love the video! Keep up the amazing work! 🙂
What a great build! I put together a Tape Mate a little while ago and love it. Laura had such a fun idea for a utility I never knew I needed. A little project like that is great for fun and a little self-care. Take care of yourself!
You take care of yourself ♥.I think my relaxing/distracting place is often cooking or sketching (often shields; I'm a heraldry nerd). Making stuff, I love doing but it takes a bit more energy to get going and that's not always easy.
I've learned so much stuff from you and your channel over the years, but the switch to using those lidded containers to organize everything was the biggest life changer ❤❤
Yeah, yeah...binging comfort shows, over-committing myself for the number of Christmas presents I think I can make in 6 weeks...and in way more communication with friends and family. You're never alone! ❤️
So. Couple things. You want to make barracks. This is done using a very short stitch length and zigzag. When you are sewing thick material use a seam jumper or substitute with your needle box on the back side. This will fix your thread tension And for the magnet of have just sewn a magnet where the straps over lap and box it in
As a prop maker and 3d printer I made my peace with sanding and have grown to like it. Seriously I can put on music, go full unga bunga caveman brain, make rough thing smooth and even with adhd I could go for hours not a care in the world
That pencil holder looks like it is made to be inserted from the bottom. When working and you often only have one hand to put it back it should be easier than putting it in from the top. Great video. Thanks.
Hey bill. I have a similar thread cutter on my machine. I usualy pull from below and behind, going up and forward, int o the cutter. it`s straight to the blade and you don`t need to wrap it around like you do....
5:56 The issue with starting on three layers was the angle of the pressure foot. Quick and dirty solution, double over a scrap layer or two and put it under the back edge of the pressure foot behind the needle. Favorite distractions are embroidery/ sewing. Though puppetry is kinda up there too.
If you wedge something the same thickness under the heal of the foot, it would struggle less. So the foot is horizontal and not tilting on a steep angle
I was wondering about using Chicago Screws to make it easier to take apart and modify (or fix) in the future. My favorite Way to distract myself, watch punished props make something neat-o. You may want to stitch closed the bottom of the elastic pencil holder. With repeated use the elastic will stretch, lose its grip, and the pencil will fall out the bottom.
@@punishedprops I'm on my 3rd multitool belt holder with those elastic "other accessory" elastic tube holders on the sides, and after a few months of daily use the pencil/flashlight/microtool/etc slides out the bottom regularly and I have to sew the bottom shut.
One thing that just occured to me was the mention of metric and imperial tape measures, all the ones I'm familiar with here (UK/Ireland) have both on the same tape; is that just a here thing? Do other countries do that?
Great little project. After the news hit, I dropped all my in the know youtube informants. 8 years is enough. Time to focus on the little picture that I can handle. Keep on keepin on .
It’s hard to start the sewing machine with the foot “uphill”. You can put material of the same thickness behind what you’re sewing to keep the foot level and help it get going.
You may not have had an issue with layers or need a "hump jumper" basically something the same size behind the foot that gives the feed dogs something to grip.
Small magnets with holes in them can be found in some speakers. The strongest I’ve found are in earbuds but they are pretty small. I haven’t looked but I’ll bet they can be bought online in whatever size you want. Using that strap was smart. Leather looks cool but can stretch over time. Don’t worry about the outside world. It may look chaotic right now but there are lots of positive signs what with certain antagonistic countries and political organizations talking about ending conflicts. Clouds and silver linings, you know.
My favorite things to do are watching makers on RUclips and watching horror video games also on RUclips. I also just grab some EVA and work on ongoing builds.
To distract myself, I made a cardboard Baba Yaga house.... im waiting for paint and clay so I can add details to it. It's made from a cardboard box base and the roof tips back and opens up
Escape? Just diving in! *krrr* I'm Punk and I was politically active in my youth, so... Every day about one hour News from our Austrian TV-Chanel - small version of something like BBC -, for good massierend at least 20 min News of a German-France Art TV and to round it up The Daily Show. 😅 Just a word from Frend to Frend: Don't focus on your sadness, but on your strength and those who have about the same mindset like you. Yeah, the world is faild in so many points, but a specially for Americans keep on going with the Dayly Show on scream it out loud and jump/shake it up. 😎
“I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo. "So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”
I make art when I need a distraction. I made paintings during the AIDS crisis, sculptures when my home country was taken over by the mob, and music when the economy collapsed. I'm still doing Covid sculptures and now with recent developments I'm starting some very angry paintings using blood and crude oil. I got a huge 3m*10m canvas to cover so I had better get back to it. Thanks for the nice mini project video. :)
I have just made some. I built one for my best friend and going to send it out soon. I made it from thick nylon straps not leather. By the way I made this comment before watching the video so I made it out of Nylon webbing before Bill. The wedding can be bonded with heat just like melting Paracord or you can use some C A glue I used both.
I made one from thick nylon webbing that you can get at Jo Ann and you can either use CA glue or use heat to weld it together kinda like melting the tips of Paracord
I just stop watching the news and try to fill that gap with programming and watching creative people like yourself. :) Obviously I am aware that this is only possible in a privileged position. But if you can't really change the big things, it's difficult to constantly think about it. Just be kind where possible I'd say.
@punishedprops I hope those that are feeling low get to feeling better. Everything looks to be moving in the right direction and it feels like the world is healing.
I know it's hard, but stay true to yourselves, keep making, and squeeze every drop of living you can out of bad days and dark times: that's all anyone can do. So keep it up you two; we're all in this together.

Thanks for this Bill. This was so nice to watch and I think Laura would love that you upcycled that strap. Really needed this bit of positivity.
Yeah I was trying to channel her for this build. 😄

HAHA! I have a lot of sanding to do on Bender and I can’t wait!
I love Evil Ted's shirt I Sand, I Die, I Sand Again. Bill should definitely have that one in his wardrobe too!
Thanks for the encouragement! Im working on a small tool bag using a couple designs I have found to make the perfect one.

We do a lot of cooking too. It’s so rewarding.
Awesome! I love that y'all know/follow Laura! She is the coolest!
She really is! Such an inspiration.
Now I just want to collect all those tiny pencils from mini golf courses and Ikea trips and send 'em over to you guys!
What a nice little project, thanks for sharing! Hope y'all are doing ok, take care of yourselves out there.
We're doing well, thank you!
I've learned so much stuff from you and your channel over the years, but the switch to using those lidded containers to organize everything was the biggest life changer ❤❤
Oh neat!
I love how all of Maker RUclips knows each other ❤
We all met at Maker Faire! 🤣
There’s no I in maker!
Yeah, yeah...binging comfort shows, over-committing myself for the number of Christmas presents I think I can make in 6 weeks...and in way more communication with friends and family. You're never alone! ❤️
I should make some Xmas gifts this year. Great inspiration.

Picked up disc golf as a hobby. It’s an amazing distraction when life feels like a lot. And it’s great exercise.
That's really fantastic. We've been going for a walk every day.
Pssst, Bill!
That diagonal slot on the back of the sewing foot holder is a thread cutter!
Woah cool! 😂
This is why comments are usefull, learning every day ;)

I’m with you! It’s nice to zone out to some sanding. I have a lot coming up with my Bender build.
My favorite way to relax and be away from the world is to watch Punished Props videos. Thanks for all the awesome content all these years
You’re welcome! ❤️😄

That's a clever thought, thanks!
I wish I knew how to distract myself right now. This video was a good start. I guess just trying to stay busy will have to do for the time being.
You got this. We all have each other.
A great quick project. I like to find some abandoned project when I need a boost.
It’s good for the soul.
I think Eagle Tools in CA has a few left for anyone not wanting to make one themselves.
Great build Bill.
Oh neat!
That’s such a great idea iam making one this week for work!
Hot diggity!
Thank you for finding the damn clips! I spent SOME TIME unsuccessfully trying to.
You’re welcome!

I hear you brother, a lot of us need a productive distraction these days.
Cheers!
I can always use a distraction, and sounds like I can use this. Punished Props always delivers.
Right on!
Love the customization
Thanks!

@@punishedprops there’s an actual tool available if this solution doesn’t work for you. It’s called a “hump jumper”. Honest.
Quick question: What is the tiny saw you used to cut the pencil at 9:18? I apologize if it’s listed somewhere, I wasn’t able to find it.
It's a little OLFA saw! :D amzn.to/4fzO7eV

Is rhat a standard sewing machine needle? Thats my biggest fear for this project.
did you make that last tuesday?

You should make a 3D printed pencil topper, with a toroidal loop for easy grabbing. Perhaps add a hex setscrew for extra rigidity and cool factor XD
That sounds pretty neat!

we will all need a sh*tload of small projects in the near future
Maybe I’ll finally finish all my half finished projects! 🤣

In Dutch a tape is called a "rolmaat" and mate means "maat". So a tapemate would be a rolmaatmaat

Why would I need a distraction? Why did he say that with a lot of emphasis? Veterans Day? I now see similar comments, what did I miss?
We just get overwhelmed with world events sometimes. It’s such a big place and we are so small.
@punishedprops I hope those that are feeling low get to feeling better. Everything looks to be moving in the right direction and it feels like the world is healing.
Thanks for the distraction

This video is specifically *not* political.
If you keep whining about politics, I'm going to unsubscribe after years of watching.
Is that what he was inferring?
I don’t remember talking about politics. In fact, this video is meant to be a distraction *from* politics.
