Excellent video. I wasn’t expecting that at all. Nice editing, graphics, no rambling, great product shots and example footage. I probably haven’t left a comment like this on a review video in a year or two. I can’t tell you put a lot of work into this and it shows. I also appreciate your honesty about the good and bad. These look like great lenses. I’m just trying to decide between the original form factor and the Micro Prime style. Thanks!

Hey guys, just a brief update. I ordered another Microprime from B&H and it too has some issues and has to go back, so it looks like they haven't addressed quality control. If you are interested in buying these lenses, please buy from a retailer that has a good return policy just to avoid any headaches if you get a bad copy.

Sure! The latest lens had a focus ring that would get stuck halfway, haha.
I won the lottery - I received my 15mm, 35mm and 50mm - all have perfectly smooth focus and aperture rings!!!! OMG!!!! It can happen!?

Carlito A buddy of mine bought a 25mm and had to send it back since the aperture mech was stuck. I THINK SLRMagic might be cleaning things up since the two most recent lenses I've got have been perfect. Crossing fingers it stays this way for everyone else.

Thanks for the review bro. These lenses got my attention when I bought a 0.95/35 APS-C Hyperprime. I use it on Leica SL for 4K (it does 4K in Super35 format), and amazingly the image quality is on par with Noctilux 1/50. Now I am about to get BMPCC 4K, and these microprimes seem to make a great deal of sense.

Imperial markings sigh... I’ve been considering adding meters with some sticker or something to my Vazen. Converting in my head takes too much effort so I just ignore the markings entirely. The Meike lenses seem very impressive in this aspect, they’ve figured out how to get booth imperial and meters large and big on same lens and a bit away from each other so you won’t confuse yourself which scale you are looking on.
Is there a lot of difference compared to the cheaper cine primes from SLR Magic? It is hard to find a comparison.

Where did you get these? What focal distances do they make? Also at 1:20 would that T1.2 turn into T0.84 With a speed booster on an APS-C sensor?

I have the Fuji X-H2S. I'm in doubt between the SLR Magic Micro Primes and the 7Artisans Vision kit (12, 25, 35 and 50mm). Have you ever made this comparison? Which one do you think is better?

I know what you mean about the quality control. The first 35mm I got (Fuji X-mount), the iris blades were floating loose inside the lens. Not one or two, all of them. The second copy showed up today and seems to be in good order. Fingers crossed.
Does 12mm and 25mm have the same sensor size coverage? I bought to of those lens and using on my MFT sensor and the 25mm looks like 50mm and it's perfect but the 12mm looks way wider than 14mm. Is it just the way it feels or is it actuary wider? If anybody can answer, please comment on this.

Thanks for the detailed review. How do you feel that these lenses compare to the Veydra Primes?
The biggest thing to keep in mind is that these are designed for full-frame sensors whereas the Veydras are not. I'd say the Veydras are a bit sharper and have less vignetting/CA, but seem to have a little more distortion.
I own 3 mft veydras and i want to upgrade to slr magic primes. How would you compare the both in terms of characteristics? Similar or very different?
The Veydras definitely don't have the QC issues that the microprimes have. Veydras are also tack sharp wide open, but they only open up to T2.2, which is where these microprimes excel anyway. The biggest benefit these have over the Veydras is sensor coverage. These cover full-frame sensors while the Veydras do not.
Veydra have way less CA, vignetting and distortion than the microprimes, but are also twice the cost.
Is there a maximum length for putting the lens too close to the subject?
What’s the minimum focus distance for the 25mm?

It's a manual focus lens? Like all cine lenses.

I don't think these will come to EF unfortunately.
How do these compare to voigtlanders? Do you know?

It’s a bit of an oversight by them that the markings are only in imperial. As the rest of the world used metric. Ouch!
Man, you weren't kidding about the quality control. I'm returning my 50mm 1.2. The focus ring became wobbly and noisier. Hopefully, I get a better one.
Yeah the wobble is something I noticed on a few of the lenses I had. That unfortunately is just a design flaw of the lens I think. :(

Guess Quality Control is the biggest issue... was thinking of getting 3 of them for my FS5 and A7rIII... 15mm, 35mm, 50mm ... Being in Canada, likely have to buy thru B&HPhoto - wonder if I should buy 2-3 of each... then return those which show problems. That's something unpleasant to look forward to.
You ever consider the Rokinon Cine DS? The 8-blade iris is definitely not a pleasant feel... but their constant f1.5 is nice.
I have tried the Cine D lenses. They're nice but didn't have much in the way of uniqueness. They also fare a bit worse with CA and sharpness. :(
I actually just ordered two more microprimes, so we'll see if the quality control has changed since!

I like the Xeens.... but not their price tag still ;) The 11-blade iris is a one-up on the Rokinons Cine DS ones.... but meh.... $.
EpicMind Studio I should be getting the 50mm today, fingers crossed it's a good copy lol. I'll keep you posted! I tried the XEENS, they are pretty damn sharp but I felt they were unnecessarily big haha.

@@Epicmind My 50mm arrived and sadly it also has an issue lol. About halfway through the focus throw the ring itself gets REALLY stiff. Really bizarre...anyway going back. Cosmetically it's fine though. Bummer.

I haven't tried them for m43, just e mount, but I'm sure they're just as good. You can! In fact one got a video coming out today using these on the a6400.

Hi! Thanks for You test... I decide to not buy this lenses. Do You know sone cine lenses better than this SLR Magic Prime? Im searching some much better lences. Specialy 24mm, if i will not find the cinema lens for 1000-2500$ i think i will but sony Gmaster 24mm 1.4...... But it will not this cinema look, this bokeh and specialy - this flares :(

The Veydras are sharper wide open but both are about equal once you get to 2.8. I'd go with the SLRMagic just because they're full frame.

That would be nice! But the EF mount would require SLRMagic to redesign the rear elements pretty significantly I'd imagine. :(
They might introduce an RF mount version. Especially if Canon has the presence of mind of change the mount on their Cinema EOS camera’s to RF...

This lens had me up to “imperial”.... that alone made me take it off the list.
