Old time rock and roll began back in the 50s, when I was growing up (I was born in 1949). I wouldn't call music from the 80s, "old time rock and roll," though some of it (like this one) did carry over with the style quite a bit. I never could really get "into" MOST 80s music, at all...unless it was something close to this.
In the 60s, I had a small folk band. We loved playing and singing lots of folk music (Bob Dylan, The Mamas and the Papas, etc.), but we ALSO played and sang a lot of the 50s and early 60s rock songs. I also have a lot of 70s music favorites, but generally speaking...NOT 80s music.
This one, however, "felt good" to me, musically, though the lyrics are not my favorites.
What an amazing voice for all ranges of music. Enjoy listening!
This is one of my favorites because it’s almost like watching a kid (with an amazing voice) doing air guitar and singing like no one is watching - made me smile

@@bryanleehall -Okay...You are talking about a guy created from his mind the articulated emotion in singing that Dan is able to follow almost 50 years later as a guide post. Steve Perry didn't have the signs to tell him which way to go. There is no comparison. Dan is great, but come on.

Dan, I'm writing this in 2023. Journey was THE band in the 80's. I do wish they had continued on but I understand Steve's reluctance. Now, even if you don't have exact same pitch as the replacement did, it's so refreshing to fall in love with this song all over again. YOUR voice and the strength of it pushing it above and beyond anything that Steve ever did with this song is a facelift that was so needed for this. THANK YOU!!Ps. I would love to hear your version of Marilyn Manson's "Cupid Carries a Gun" ....Gods speed.
