    That Foreman Moorer fight is even more interesting when you read up and learn that, by limiting the power in his punches up until the knockout, George baited Michael Moorer into trading punches and fighting George's fight.

    I saw the Tua / Ibebuchi fight live on "HBO after dark" because Tua was definitely a rising star at the time so I was following his career. Ike I never heard of prior to this. I say it was the best non-title heavyweight fight of the era, maybe any era. I was pulling for Tua but when it was over and waiting for the decision I was really hoping for a draw. I know draws are unpopular but I just could not pick a conclusive winner. I had it 6 rounds each. According to Ike's handler's he never quite recovered from this fight, despite his later win over Byrd. He didn't fight again after Tua for over a year and his handler's said his behavior started to get strange.

      Yeah he has basically been in jail since shortly after the Byrd fight. He never did lose a professional fight. But since the Tua fight (maybe before too, I don’t know for sure) he was exhibiting extreme bi-polar in which he thought he was president of the world as his alter ego. For a heavyweight fight that had 1735 (I think it said) punches thrown, I'm not surprised of the brain damage one night may have caused.

    Tyson-Ruddock & Lewis-Mercer could've made this list. Both fights were incredibly important in the grand scheme of heavyweight boxing at the time.
    Tyson-Ruddock was a battle between the #1 & #2 contenders, something you'll probably never see again. Lewis-Mercer was a slug fest between highly rated fighters finally coming into their own.

    • @30over3
      @30over3 7 лет назад +6

      Were you alive in 1991?
      It was a bigger fight than Holyfield-Foreman. Tyson was ranked #1 and Ruddock was ranked #2. You NEVER see a #1 vs #2 rated battle in boxing anymore. Both men were the 2 most dangerous heavyweights on the planet. Ruddock coming off a brutal 4th round drubbing of Michael Dokes and Tyson taking a crooked course back to the championship.
      Many observers looked at this match up for the true heavyweight championship. Plus, this was a grudge match after Tyson pulled out of their scheduled December 1989 battle in Canada. Both men had firepower. A true heavyweight slugfest that went down as one of the best heavyweight sizzlers in the 90's.

    • @30over3
      @30over3 7 лет назад +4

      Also, the reason Don King matched these two up was in hopes of getting the WBC to strip Holyfield of their title. By facing Foreman and not Tyson, Holyfield made sure the Duvas were in control and that Tyson would have to wait for his shot just like King made Holyfield wait for his.
      The WBC came thisclose to stripping Holyfield. But Tyson wanted Holyfield in the ring and almost left King if he didn't get his shot. King didn't have rights to Holyfield and that's why it took fo long for the bout to materialize.
      Don't blame Tyson for this. It's all part of Don King shenanigans. It's also the reason why the Tyson-Ruddock rematch happened. Watch the post fight interview where the announcer, Ferdie Pacheco (?) asks Tyson id Holyfield is next. You can hear Don King in the background yell out, "We don't want Holyfield!" where Tyson gives King this smug look. Tyson wanted Holyfield next.

    Hey Rummy, thanks for this video. As a brit, I'm used to hearing from Americans saying Lewis was somehow an unworthy champ, and when it comes to TKO6, saying that somehow Vitali was robbed. It shows you have a good objective view that you could see that Lewis came back in the face of that adversity and, in my eyes, won the fight - not by being better, but frankly wanting it more and being a champ (and bludgeoning the other guy's face until it would be plain wrong to let it go on). But it is true that Vitali had the better of the earlier rounds and could have landed the bingo punch.
    I just wanted to thank you for being straight and giving an unbiased opinion. It would have been good to have seen a rematch, but Lewis, I think, just didn't care enough any more.
    Great videos, great video.
    Thanks.
    Of course, I AM biased, and I think Lewis is the best heavyweight since Ali, and the Tyson v Lewis debate I think is answered by this: Lewis lost twice - both times on single punch KOs - while when Tyson lost, every time, he got beat by the better fighter on the night. I think that'd make a good video, which ever way you wanted to go.

    • @troymccane3620
      @troymccane3620 7 лет назад +3

      Regarding your not very intelligent comment on Lewis vs Vitali: In order to be ahead on judge's scorecards it is not enough to just be better than the champion. Every high school kid knows that in order to beat the champion, you have to be convincingly better. Vitali did just that - he was convincingly better and because he was convincingly better, he was ahead on all judge's scorecards. Regarding the cut: a cut is not always a result of boxer's skill or power. This is precisely that case. If you watch how that right hand lands on Vitali's eye, you will see that Lewis hits him with the palm - a surface(s) much better suited for cutting opponent's face. I am not claiming Lewis did that intentionally but just the same, I am not excluding that possibility. Lewis's famous phrase of that time was one for breakfast one for lunch. Obviously, he got too full from breakfast only. So full he refused the rematch with the first one and knowing he cannot duck them, he run straight for the retirement.

      @immaculatedirtz8805 6 лет назад +5

      Either way you look at it Lewis caused the stoppage with use of his hands. Perfectly legal, nothing untoward. Fair stoppage, fair win.
      Vitali really did get stuck in early on but Lewis had started coming back into the fight. If it went on I wouldn't have been surprised if Vitali eventually knocked out Lewis and I would have had him slightly up on the scorecards, but it didn't and even if Lewis exacerbated the cut on purpose to "get out of jail", he did it within the rules of the game (ie: no headbutts, ear biting, low blows etc). Could actually call that ring IQ

    • @anthonyanderson9303
      @anthonyanderson9303 6 лет назад +5

      See I go the other way it. If that fight had go on, I feel that Lennox would have stopped Vitali. He started turning it on in the 6th round and those uppercuts he landed were massive. He has Vitali hanging on for dear life after that. Lennox was exhausted but I felt like Vitali was done after those shots.

    • @MadDogOfist
      @MadDogOfist 5 лет назад +7

      @@troymccane3620 you sound like you're disagreeing with me, but there's nothing you say that I particularly disagree with. The cut was caused, whichever way you look at it, by Lewis getting through onto Vitali's face with force. It got worse because Lewis kept getting through onto Vitali's face with force. The fight had to be stopped because, if Lewis kept on punching Vitali in the face the way he was doing, the big Ukrainian would have lost vision in one eye. That's boxing. You can bitch about scorecards and palms and whatever, but the plain facts were: Lennox kept punching him hard in the face till it was unsafe to let it continue. Thus he won the fight.
      We always look at fighters who go on too long with some pity - Joe Louis went longer than anybody wanted or needed. Muhammad Ali should've hung them up five years earlier. Why was Larry Holmes boxing in the late-nineties? Tyson getting knocked out by a couple of bums wasn't something anybody needed to see.
      Lennox - alone with Rocky Marciano amongst the greats - retired on top and never came back. He saw he was slipping and knew it was time to step away. While the rematch would've been a great spectacle, there really wasn't anything in it for him. After all, he won the first time, his legacy secure, time to move to Jamaica with his millions of dollars and do whatever it is that he wanted to do, with his faculties intact, his name amongst the greatest of all time.
      Saying he 'ran' is such disrespectful bullshit about a guy who faced and beat the baddest men on the planet.

    • @JanDobrodumow
      @JanDobrodumow 4 года назад

      @@MadDogOfist Lewis avoided the humiliation of being that sacrificial champion who gets completely whooped in a 'passing of the torch' type fight. Although the Holmes fight did nothing to diminish Ali's legacy, it definitely cast a shadow over his career. Lewis got out with dignity. Remember also how Holmes kept on and was flattened by Tyson. It's better to know when to call it a day.

    Buster Douglas was a very underrated heavy weight who was well schooled and technically solid.....his father was a world class middleweight back in the day,so he came from good genes....the night he fought Tyson he put it all together and proved he had the heart of a champion......The defence against Holyfield should not be held against him,in his eyes he had already won the lottery and had no need to return to the ring.

    What i cannot fathom and never will is why all the

Lived a good life,wasnt in the papers for reckless behaviour,just a quiet gentleman,your average normal guy. Fucks sake give him some respect. Wasnt cocky, just got on with business. You have to respect him for that. He beat all you americans could throw at him. Riddick Bowe threw belt in the trash rather than fight him. Tyson paid 4million dollars not to fight Lewis when he was almost broke. Lewis never ducked anyone. Bowe v Lewis should have could have but never did so fuck it move on.

Add to the fact tyson took him lightly and was out with asian escorts instead of training hard and you got the perfect storm for the biggest upset in boxing. It was the biggest upset to me because this was Tyson in his prime. A time I think where Tyson had a chance of beating any heavyweight including Hollyfield and Lenox lewis.
