When shade tree engineering was king......no cookie cutter kit cars. When the best ideas won not the biggest wallet. Truly the glory days of stock car racing.
At 0:36 #58 is Lou Funk taken at the Danbury Racearena in Danbury, Conn. It was one of the most successful short tracks in the Northeast until it closed at the end of the 1981 season. Sometimes progress sucks.
Yep....back in the day, no power steering, no power brakes, foot to the floorboards, raisin' the stakes. No guts, no glory on saturday night, got a V-8 from a chivvie, ain't she a sight. Up on the roof, comin' down the straight, drivin' like a trucker, haulin' the freight!!
At 1:58 The #101 is Don Rounds from Rhode Island who raced just about anywhere, considering they didn't have a race track in Rhode Island. The last one closed in 1959.
Lou Funk Jr's "one off" ultra-lightweight Duster @0:37 "Kit Car" that Petty Ent. built him out of 2"X2" and 2"X3" square tubing for the MAIN FRAME rails (unheard of at the time). Maybe the first "throw away" chassis.
At 1:53 I'm guessing that this might be the NYS Fairgrounds sometime in the mid fifties. The only cars and drivers I can Identify here are the #S33 which is probably Don Henderberg and the #1010 is either Mike Michaels or Cliff Kotary. Wow!

Good grief a Plymouth Cuda at :12 .....if they only knew. A man named Don Bult from Huron South Dakota raced a Cuda in Super Stock in the early 70's he was the first one to hit our 67 Fairlane he said he couldnt resist because our rear chrome bumper was so straight and shiney, his brother Harry raced modifieds and then a Plymouth Duster with a hemi in it. And another Cuda at 1:40.....blasphemy !!!
That is Baby Jason and the Spankers, a band I was in during the end of the 90s. These two tracks are from our 1999 CD release "Drive-by Discipline"! It is out of print, but will appear soon on this channel!
