    Thank you thank you thank you for this design. I have adhd, and this has become an essential "can't leave the house without" item. I first made it with cotton yarn because it was the only stuff I had on hand, but it made a project just small enough to flip one handed with ease, so I use it while I'm driving long distances. (Of course if traffic picks up and I need to drive extra careful, I just loop it around my thumb and can drive with both hands no problem.) I made one for my grandma with anxiety and she uses it regularly, too. Truly my favorite thing in the world.

My daughter is a tiny 9 - I’m using Catania by Schachenmayr, it’s cotton but with a nice sheen to it - I had some leftover from some other projects - I like the softness of the velvet yarn for myself, but I think the sport weight cotton will add a soft, bumpy, rougher texture to the sensory aspect - my daughter has high anxiety in any social situ’s and her go to is to finger the seams of her shirts until her shirts are either ripped up the side or the cuffs are ripping right off of sweatshirts… I’m forever trying to find something she can finger without ruining her clothes - this might just work!! I enjoyed the pattern but when I made my first one, the hole in the middle came out a lot bigger than yours. The mechanism still works fine but the large hole distracts me, do you know what I could have done wrong? Is there any way to fix it? Thanks :)

    • @YarnAndy
      @YarnAndy  4 дня назад

      Hm, did you overstuff the pyramids? I think I did that in my first few samples (see the fails video ruclips.net/video/SCUjDxyia2U/видео.html) and that's why the gap came out too big.
      You need a very small amount of stuffing. The gap might also come out big if you make too many rows, by not counting correctly.
      The way to fix either of these errors is to make another one, since frogging chenille messes up the yarn. I use the bad flexagons as pin and hook cushions.

    • @purpanimation
      @purpanimation 2 дня назад

      @@YarnAndy I was thinking that as well, i made another with less stuffing and the hole was smaller but still a bit big for my liking though I added barely any stuffing. Would it work with no stuffing at all since I seem unable to get the right amount? (thanks for responding btw)

      @YarnAndy  2 дня назад

      Sure, you can use different kinds of yarn, but maybe something that doesn't stretch out. I'm not sure about milk cotton, give it a try. Maybe put it in two if it's thin, otherwise you'll end up with a tiny toy.

      I just used 2 strands of sports weight acrylic yarn. It works fine. I am sure you can use whatever you like. Just remember the thickness of the yarn and the size of the hook will determine how big it will be.

      The stitch counts are calculated to give a 90 degree turn after every pyramid. If you change that, you might get a different type of toy. I can't say what the issue is without at least a photo of the project.

    • @YarnAndy
      @YarnAndy  8 месяцев назад

      You probably just turned the work inside-out when starting. While you are still making the first part, you can turn it right side out, otherwise you won't be able to continue. Just push the starting row through the tube.

  • @EventuallySloth
    @EventuallySloth 2 года назад +1

    Does it have to be a velvet yarn?

    • @YarnAndy
      @YarnAndy  2 года назад +2

      Nope, any yarn works, just make sure you have good tension, like for any amigurumi. So choose the hook size that gives you no holes. Thinner yarn will make a smaller toy, though you could adapt the stitch counts as well (you need to experiment with that).

    • @YarnAndy
      @YarnAndy  2 месяца назад

      Not sure what you mean by diagonal. Do you mean the x shape of the stitches? Yarn under, yarn over technique. As for size, what yarn are you using? Mine is chunky, 120 meters per 100 g. Which hook size? What kind of tension do you have? It all plays a role.
